1. Movies like these are frequently financed with pre-sales, which means that the producers sell the movie to distributors all over the world based on the script, actors, director etc. before actually filming the movie.

The distributors know how much a Seagal DTV like this is worth to them, so they don't need to see the actual finished movie before buying it.

American Film Market and Cannes are the biggest places to buy and sell movies, also Berlin, Sundance, Toronto and so on.

2. I have no idea, that's all the info I have. I would presume they have a script and cast and crew attached so far. If they can sell it and get it financed I guess filming will start once they can get everything scheduled.

This is interesting to read. I will tell you why. A lot of people including some members here wish a big budget-no-DTV-Seagal movie for a very, very, very long time. Their argument is justified and I also would like to see Seagal on the big screen again, but for me it is not the major criteria.

For me it almost reads that when they sell a movie before it is even produced the budget for it - actors, sfx, location, etc, etc. is completely planned with this what you called pre-sales. Therefore the chances to lift the budget are completely eliminated, before everything can even start. Please feel free to correct me, but with the amount of pre-sales + the regular sales, the way to produce movie with a higher budget has no step-stones in its way. Don't get me wrong, companies like Voltage are making profits with their products after all. Even if they calculate the risk of a failure to nearly zero, there is so much profit for them. I am no communist or turbo capitalist, just a fan with my thoughts on this particular subject.

No problem, but I am thanking you again.

You are absolutely correct.

No producer will spend $10M-$20M on a Steven Seagal movie, because they know it is not worth that much in the market place.

The budgets for most DTV productions are nowhere near what they used to be 10 or 15 years ago. The sales of DVD's plummeted, and streaming/VOD hasn't been able to take its place.

If you look at something like The Foreigner, even though it is a horrible movie, it's clear that they had money to burn, it looks much higher budget production than say Maximum Conviction.

Back in those days Seagal could still command $5M a movie, and they were able to produce them for $15M, nowadays the entire budget is probably less than Seagal's salary back then.

And since buyers want more bang for their buck Seagal alone is not enough for them, they want more names, which is why they put Steve Austin in Maximum Conviction, Trejo and Rhames in Force of Execution etc.
so they have to pay not only Seagal but additional stars, and since they don't have a lot of money to work with, that results in quick three week shoots, limited locations, cheap visuals and formulaic plots.

That's one reason why you see Seagal and Lundgren and even Van Damme turn more to TV, where there is still money to be made.

Many thanks for your help. So only one question remains. How MUCH money do they even invest?

Look with an own camera you can produce your own movies, so beside the budget and a professional styled set, i.e. location, what prevents fans who are practicing martial arts from making their own Seagal-esque movies?

If TV is the last fortress for Seagal and company, well so be it. As Buddha tought: Life is suffering.

So, Seagal is the vigilante or the soldier out to stop him? It sounds like he maybe playing the bad guy here(well, if you call a vigilante who kills criminals a bad guy).

If he is indeed playing the villain/bad guy, then I'm REALLY looking forward to it ;)

I am curious, but - depending on the movie - this seems more like an anti-hero scenario. If Seagal would play his character like Torrez, than we would have a fine villain no doubt.

I am just comparing this to the other most known movie vigilante - Paul Kersey (played by legendary Charles Bronson).

I´m sorry but it´s ridiculous to compare a Seagal character with the iconic Paul Kersey character played by the great Charles Bronson.

If you think this is ridiculous - so be it. My thinking was that Seagal could honor Bronson that way. Bronson was one of the finest actors ever - no doubt here, so I was just theorizing.

Please consider that we are talking about a possible movie - so far. I hope the movie will be done, but if you remember PRINCE OF PISTOLS how anxious a lot of people had been about it, I can only speculate at this time.

When you think that Seagal can't honor Bronson, this is your perception. We can't know how Bronson would think about this. I have no problem with different views and opinions. This is the reason why I am on this forum: exchanging opinions and thoughts with other Seagal-fans.

I watched „Guns, Girls and Gambling“ from Winnick yesterday. It’s a nice little movie. It looks pretty good on Blu-ray (good lighting and colors). The camera work was solid, and the actors were pretty good too. There wasn’t much action so it’s hard to rate it. It’s not a highlight for sure and not very original, but overall nice and entertaining.

At the moment I think I’m looking forward to this movie. I hope they film this in Alabama as earlier announced.

Any news?

Nathan Wilson and Benjamin Sacks are currently in Romania scouting several castles. I’m not sure, but maybe Keoni Waxman is there too. It looks like they will making a movie during the time Seagal is making “Code of Honor”.

Then they could be there to scout for locations to Code Of Honor. Only time will tell ;);)

I think COH is F+D so its a US based film

Maybe Waxman is doing another film with someone else or maybe a project for Seagal next year

Vlad The Impaler sounds like a Dracula movie, so it is without a doubt not a Seagal movie :D
