Director For "cypher"?

With „Cypher“ still on the air and with the assumption it will have a bigger budget than the latest movies, who would you like to see direct?

I hope Seagal chooses the director carefully.

I made a list with some directors who maybe are a possibility (in that budget range):

Renny Harlin (“The Legend of Hercules”)
Chuck Russell (was first attached to Wesley Snipes “Five Minutes to live”)
Franck Khalfoun (now attached to Snipes “Five Minutes to live”)
Simon West (“The Mechanic”)
Simon Brand (attached to Aldamisas “Captive”)
Gary Fleder (directed Stathams “Homefront”)
Paco Cabezas (“Tokarev”)
John Pogue (Bruce Willis’ “Wake”)
Scott Mann (“Bus 657”)

With the exception of Cabezas and Khalfoun, I think every director from this list could be interesting…

Also the directors of “John Wick” (which had a 20 mill budget) would be fantastic, but that seems unlikely to me.

Who would be your favorite and do you have more suggestions?

I dont think Seagal will pick the director it will most likely be chosen by Aldamisas

And with that in mind Harlin worked with them on a film in 2013 so that could happen

I dont see people like Fleder and Chuck Russell working with Seagal

What about Don E. FauntLeRoy?

His last collaboration with Seagal was the top-notch Urban Justice. And judging from the interview that is contained on the German Mercenary for Justice DVD, his work with Seagal was not problematic.

I would like to know your opinion guys!

Don E. FauntLeRoy is a STV director

This movie will be DTV. That I'm sure of.

The reported budget of $25M can not be even remotely accurate. For that kind of money they would have to cast some huge A-list names to justify the budget, and since Seagal is a DTV name and they cast him first and seem to be selling it as a Steven Seagal movie and not an ensemble, I don't see that happening.

Take Machete as an example, that was the last time Seagal was in a movie that was theatrically released, it's budget was $10M and it had a big all star cast.

Machete Kills which Aldamisa produced is reported to have cost $12M.

They're also producing an upcoming movie with Bruce Willis called Captive, if it ends up happening it will be a straight to VOD release for sure like most of Willis's smaller movies in recent years. I heard that two of the recent VOD released movies Bruce Willis "starred" in cost around $10M.

If Cypher ends up happening, which is not at all certain, since these companies all have big development plates and announced projects often can have trouble with funding and get scrapped, I am sure with Seagal starring it will be budgeted like most of his regular DTV movies, $5M or under.

Even recent Jason Statham (Homefront) and Keanu Reeves (John Wick) movies don't have those kinds of budgets, John Wick was I believe $20M, and an upcoming thriller starring Keanu is budgeted at $10M.

So if the likes of Statham, Reeves and Willis can't even get more than $10M-$20M funding for a movie, how could Seagal?

For what its worth I dont think it will cost 25M

But I have a feeling it will be higher than Seagals recent Voltage Movies

I think Simon West is a bit "High End" for this kind of movie, but John Hyams might be a good choice (or maybe Issac Florentine)
Gareth Evans might be used to working with similar budgets, but may also be "Higher End" since THE RAID movies?

@JoeDirt: I think you are right with your statement, however I would agree with rastafari that there is a chance that the budget will be at least higher compared to the latest movies.

Also interesting: Machete Kills had a budget about maybe 12 million, but the movie was released theatrically - worldwide. Same can be said about their other productions, “Sin City 2” and the Jon Favreau comedy “Chef”.

I recently asked S. Bespalov if they are planning a theatrical release for “Cypher”, and he replied “Of course!”. However, it’s probably better to have low expectations - we won’t be disappointed then if it turns out to be a DTV. Remember Voltage also produced several cinema movies, but Seagals were released DTV.

The films that Seagal did for Voltage were not Produced in house by Voltage...they were made and produced by Seagal and his team and pre sold by Voltage

Thats why I think this will have a bigger budget has its being backed by Bespalov with his money
