What Do You Think Seagal Could And Should Improve In Terms Of His Movie Making???

My personal opinion is very simple...

No sleepwalk dialouges.
Lose the glasses he is always wearing, its getting old.
Do all his fight scenes himself.. I still dont understand why he cant do all of his fight scenes himself..

I would have said change the waredrope every now and then, but in the last couple of movies it seems he has done so..'

He is doing all the fightscenes himself. But there simply is no time or budget to take the time with Steven to put up or choreograph a decent fight. So when Steven is not on set they already film some of his fighting stuff. Just in case when Steven shows up and there will be no time enough to shoot the fightscene. They can always edit the footage of the double in the fightscene. If Waxman had 6-7 weeks to shoot the movie none of this will happen. Just check out Lundgren's Skin Trade for example. For a long time he got the time to shoot a decent movie. And it pays of in the fightscenes. Its just the problem of dtv film making and people downloading this movies. It's a vicious circle.

  • Lose the double for basic scenes such as walking into a shop to buy a hamburger.
  • Let us see what is happening with the fights, don't want the camera so close that you can't see the double kicking, punching, etc.
  • Cut down on the number of movies released and save the budget to make 1 decent movie per year.
  • Different themes. CIA, ex-military, elite cop, we've seen it all before hundreds of times.
  • Better supporting cast.
  • Better plot.
Personally i cannot see it changing in the near future as guess these low budget trashy movies are still making some kind of profit. Mostly check for reviews now before i waste my money. Would have wasted probably £100 this year if i purchased all his movies released this year. I had highish hopes too for a couple, A Perfect Weapon and Code Of Honor.

Whilst I agree that a lot of change has to come from Seagal himself, I'd also like to add that he should get better scriptwriters, ideas, directors.

Scriptwriters - His most popular movies are his simplistic ones. No need for endless filler dialogue and characters, keep the overall plotline basic. If Seagal is willing to put more time in on set, they'd be little reason for pointless secondary characters to be added?

Ideas - Seagal constantly bleats about wanting to be taken seriously as an actor.....but doesn't help himself by constantly playing the same roles. I know it may be too late to change tack completely, but how about a full on period martial arts movie (they are a cottage industry, and don't cost the earth to make) which could also showcase Seagals love of Japanese culture?

Directors - Whilst Keoni Waxman seems the best of the recent bunch, Seagal should come out of his comfort zone and work with someone else with a different vision. In his early days he worked with some really good Genre directors. I'm sure there's a lot of up and coming British directors that would love to have a 'Seagal movie' on their CV's (he still has a really big UK fanbase, it would be great to see him in some kind of HARRY BROWN style movie?)

He needs to lose a heap of weight and get rid of that walrus moustache.

Further he needs to care about what he's doing and not focus on merely making a fast buck.
Finally he needs to trim down his over inflated ego and consider quality films and not the schlock stuff he's doing.

- He needs to do some cameo's in some bigger budget movies with current stars n the lead roles.
- Focus 'his' action on what set him apart from other action stars, using real hardcore aikido in his fights (like in ABTL, OFJ, HTK). not the silly mix of martial arts of nowadays which make him look ridiculous.
- Loose the goatee and bandana
- stop wearing the same clothes in every single movie but wear appropriate clothes fitting the part he is playing.
- take a break from action and show a different side (comedy, drama, thriller or real horror)
- invest in better screenwriters
- be motivated while shooting a movie and thus showing emotions.
- take on roles fitting his age and physique or get in the shape the role requires
- make or participate in a documentary about a subject that is dear too him (music, aikido, environment, law enforcement etc)
- Be humble and more 'open' about himself (take an example on the social media life of Sylvester Stallone, The Rock, Schwarzenegger, JCVD, Armin van Buuren and loads of other stars that actively keep in touch with their fans that way)
- Be respectfull to other people in the business, especially current stars. You may not agree with how action movies are made nowadays, but that's reality. Deal with it and adapt, it is wat the majority of movie goers want to see apparently.

I think i could go on for a while longer but have to get going, pretty packed agenda today...

peace

I really have the feeling that Attrition will be something really different. Different then any movie he has done for the last 15 years.
