Heather--If your headaches are that bad, you really shouldn't be seeking advice here. I hate to see you delay on something that may be serious. There are SO many factors that could be involved.

If your diabetes isn't well controlled, that will cause headaches. If you have high blood pressure, that will also. There are all sorts of minor triggers, such as certain foods, chocolate, cheeses, caffeine, etc. Or it could be a sinus infection, tension, eye strain, etc.

A BIG factor that not many people are aware of is what's called the "rebound effect". Which basically means, the more medication you take--even aspirin or Tylenol, but especially certain narcotics and over-the-counter preparations--the worse the pain will get. A lot of the OTC migraine products nowadays contain a combination of aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), and caffeine. While caffeine can help a migraine, it is also a known migraine trigger.

I know this isn't what you were hoping for, but with your history of diabetes, and I'm not sure what else, if the headaches are persistent and/or worsening, please don't try anyone's home remedies. It's very important that you see a doctor.

Okay? :)

I suggest that if Tyenol or Ibuprofen doesn't work go see a doc asap. This is not something to put off.

Of course, if you have a doctor like mine who dismisses severe headaches, you may not be any better off....

I've been begging my doctor for two years to send me to the headache clinic (right in the medical centre - only steps away!) but alas. I'm absent one symptom of migraines, and headaches that last 3 days and leave me limp and useless are apparently nothing to be concerned about.

So be firm with your doctor - insist that he/she does a thorough work-up!

-TD, fighting off a headache even now, and on which no OTC painkiller has even the slightest effect

TD,
Find another doctor. This guy sounds more like a jerk!!
He sounds like one of those doctors that believe when
ever a woman is in pain, it's all in her mind!!
God bless,
Mama san

I wish I could find another doctor, Mama san, but no one - no one any good, that is - is taking new patients. And it's a woman!

Glad to see you're feeling well enough to visit!

You didnt talk to me Heather (I feel so left out lol) actually I have a simple remedy even a diabetic can use. some herbs that remove headaches for good are basil teas, cardamom, garlic in cooking, marjoram (surce world renouned Michael Tierra CA,ND certified accupuncturist, natural DR. (Way of Herbs) excellent book should be available in your part of the world)

And you need to concentrate in lower BP garlic is excellent and Cheerios are great for that and quaker oats lowers chol. lowers BP which lowers headaches too maybe your Dr should have been a Martial Artist..I am I was trained to help myself long ago..hope these help. check the med if you take garlic see if compatable cause garlic is an acid. Take care

finally a sure fire to stop that throbbing part pinch between finger and thumb let off do it again also right above your ear find a main nerve you can follow it when it throbs place two fingers on that point then off then on then off it does work massage upwards thats what hairdressers do when the wash your hair. thats why you feel so relaxed when you do the hair thing..
