Action Movie Superstar Steven Seagal To Be Honored In Las Vegas
March 3, 2003, It was announced today that Martial Arts Action movie supertar Steven Seagal will be honored by the Hawaii Martial Arts International Society in Las Vegas , NV on July 12, 2003. He will be inducted in the Hawaii Martial Arts International Society's prestigious "International Martial Arts Hall Of Fame". "Steven Seagal has made his mark in martial arts and hollywood history, he was one of the true martial artist that got into acting, not an actor portraying a martial artist. His contribution to the world of martial arts can not be solely measured by his movie credits but for what opportunities were opened up, that is something that we as a part of the martial arts community must be thankful for. We are honored to have him as an inductee" Stated HMAIS Chairman Professor Jamie Abregana, Jr.Steven Seagal has starred in such movies as "Above the Law" , "Hard to Kill", "Marked for Death", "Out for Justice", "Under Seige I & II", and "On Deadly Ground". Seagal also co-starred opposite Kurt Russell in a key cameo in the action hit, “Executive Decision” and starred with Keenan Ivory Wayans as a Los Angeles cop hunting a serial killer in the action-thriller, “The Glimmer Man”.To his martial arts credit , he has been involved in martial arts since the age of 7 and became the first non-Asian to organize his own dojo in Tokyo, one that, with over 2,000 students, remains in operation today, this is an unequalled accomplishment. Seagal currently serves as CEO of Steamroller Productions, his Los Angeles based production company which is involved in the development, production, financing and marketing of television and motion picture product. He has just recently completed the production of two of the latest action packed films "Half Past Dead" and "The Foreigner", no release dates have been set as of this release.

Hooray For Steven!

It is about time he was recognised as the superb martial artist he is!
there are too many ACTORS out there who spend an hour a day for 3 weeks to learn a few moves then get suspended on a wire and the world rages about how great a martial artist they are!

Steven Seagal deserves all the attention and honours he gets! as a 7th dan grand master Aikidoka he has had to work hard and dedicate the majority of his life to get where he has!

Fantastic news!

Well, you know me and research. Always like a good project. And what better project than searching for Steven?

Anyway, I just spent about half an hour looking around the web site of the Hawaii Martial Arts International Society. They had quite a few pictures and info from this year's event in Las Vegas in July. I looked at every single one and nowhere was Steven to be found. The only reference to Steven I could find on the entire web site was an older one, a mini biography, from 2002 indicating that he would be an inductee in their Hall of Fame in 2003, along with Jet Li and five others I didn't know.

I definitely get the impression that Steven was a no-show.

Serena.

Here's a thought - you don't suppose Steven's doing a Polanski and staying out of the US to avoid prosecution for whatever is the soup of the day crime they want to charge him with? People keep pointing fingers at Steven for this, that and the other and evenutally, law enforcement is going to have to do something about it.

Thanks Serena, you are wonderful...:D
That's really too bad that he couldn't be there...
But he obviously isn't stateside all that often, sigh...
It's a great thing that he got the award though, of course, I can't think of anyone more accomplished in the MA world...
He knows so many different styles...
It's actually mind boggling...

Hmmmm, I personally really doubt that, TD...
I certainly hope not...
I think that they know the finger pointing is just that,
I don't think he has done anything wrong except for giving
these unscrupulous people his time and trust...
Not saying that was wrong, either...
I think his safety is still a bit of an issue, however....

My pleasure, Lotus....and thank YOU. I'm sure Steven would have attended if he could have. My guess is that he was probably filming on location somewhere and couldn't get away, just honoring his prior commitments. I'm positive he would have sent his regrets, along with his thanks, recognizing this for the honor I'm sure it is. I believe he is, after all, a gentleman.
