Are you Buddhist?

Yes, I am a Buddhist also.

In a real sense we are all Buddhists. By that I mean all of us are seeking self realisation (enlightenment) and finding our own path in the world.

We all suffer and seek to overcome it and desire things, but seek peace, tranquility and to be happy. How we do that is different for all of us, but it is our path for enlighenment.

this should answer that question for you
http://fwbo.org/buddhism.html

generally more of a philosophy angle to life over a religious one
its alright to be religious though - nobody knocks you for whatever you choose to believe in that area

I am not a Buddhist either Heather, I am a Christian. I too find it interesting to read about other religion.

I prefer to avoid labels, especially with religion. I think that being "spiritual" to be more important than being "religious". Whatever you believe in, if you believe with your heart and soul, you will find peace.

I was baptized as a Christian and I respect that most particularly for the sake of my family. However I am always interested in reading and learning about new religions, in particular Buddhism. Sometimes I feel I can relate more to the 'day to day philosophy' of Buddhism though, rather than living explicitly according to the teachings of the Bible. Wherever we go, whatever happens after death can't be defined. I believe it is up to us to define our lives and how we carry ourselves and interact with others while we are here, in this planet, in this universe, in this existance..

Ultimately all paths lead back to one God though, one higher power, whether known as Christ, Buddha, Allah etc.

I also have long believed that there is one singular higher power - we just call it a lot of different things. God, Allah, Buddha, universal consciousness, etc etc.
I read a book recently that mentioned that in the Bible God tells Noah that he has a whole bunch of different names (can't remember the exact number) which would seem to me to indicate that all the things we call the divine refer to one and the same.
Different people in different cultures in different times will understand the divine in different ways. I think we are all right.
Btw, if you want to read a good book about day-to-day Buddhism, look for Perry Garfinkel's "Buddha or Bust". It's fun and readable and you learn stuff too.

I have read into a lot of religions and have read a lot of religious texts just to dig deeper about certain cultures, and i think in general they all point to the same goal or way of life they all speak about peace and kindness and good deeds.

so at the end of the day, whatever religion you choose if it makes one a better person because of the teaching and writings and makes 1 more person in the world that little bit better and they pass on with the feeling of yes i can go to heaven knowing i served a higher purpose the best i could then i think all is well in the world.

Take care all

Yes Martin you said it well. Whatever path or direction or understanding we choose, if it brings good into our lives and gives us a good heart and a positive experience in our day to day lives and interaction for others that is ultimately for the greater good of man.
