Thanks go to reader Caio de Paula for bringing our attention to this incredibly entertaining commercial for Mountain Dew featuring action Steven Seagal, 7th dan Aikikai. Seagal is a popular movie actor/martial artist who made his first film in 1989 in which he performed very strong aikido techniques.

7th dan is a very high rank, Isoyama Shihan is an 8th Dan. There are strict requirements for rank in Aikikai. Age limits as well as time in rank, promotion and good for the art etc.

Littledragon, when will you start reading what people are writing on this forum. This Q has been covered at least once before. He is 7th dan aikikai. Believe you me, there are few in the world with that high rank within aikikai.

* "Aiki News to Celebrate 30th Anniversary with Demonstration in Tokyo!" by Stanley Pranin

As you may already be aware, the forerunner of Aikido Journal was a small newsletter started 30 years ago this year titled "Aiki News." Now a Japanese-language magazine, it continues to be published by my staff in Tokyo. In order to celebrate our three decades of activity, on November 28, 2004 we will sponsor a large public demonstration in Tokyo that will feature eight martial artists of a very high level who have assisted and supported us over the years. The lineup of participating instructors is as follows:
