Remember......this "team thing" will also be back in General Commander! Steven has a lot of control over his movies. He wants to put in all the things that he likes (blues, martial arts, honor), also when director and producers say he shouldn't. Sometimes Steven is his own enemy. He should listen more to the people who have the experience and talent to make a movie.

The "team thing" back again for General Commander?! Nooooo!! Please say it isn't so?! :D ;) . But I definitely agree 110% with your points.

There's surely only so many movies one can make that basically includes the tried and tested same old, same old? At least try and mix it up a little, right? You'd think that Seagal himself would be getting bored with the same ol' thing, never mind his fans! But - get this - just imagine if he has the audacity to include yet more blues songs in his next film! I wouldn't put it past him! ;) :D

Steven is obviously talented in so many ways, but he also, as you quite rightly say, lets himself down in so many ways too (some of which you've raised above in your post). But come to think of it, that's actually good in some ways as it just goes to show that he has flaws and that he is indeed human like the rest of us! LMAO! :D ;)

I've said this before. What could work is a movie like Walking Tall, where Steven is playing an old Sheriff. It should be taking place in New Orleans or Nashville (or something like that). He gets in trouble with some new criminal locals (like Fire Down Below) and is trying to protect his family. Then he can also use his blues music and it would be a role that fits his age.

Agreed. That premise would be perfect for lots of blues music.

DiDa, how come you haven't seen it yet? (I just presumed you had.)

I am from The Netherlands so I can't watch it on 365flix. Waiting for a release here. 365flix gave me a free pass for the chat. Not for the movie.

Yet the reviewer still only gives the film two ** out of ***** ?? Seagal can't win for losing sometimes it seems.

That's what I thought. Derogatory, but really well written and reasoned. It's a perspective I think my DTV Digest colleague would share. I think this film is really only going to satisfy the most hardcore and forgiving fans.

Finally watched Attrition last night!
Surprisingly, it was on TV (on one of the regular channels). As I wrote before, Italian television seems to be really over Seagal: I have no idea why, as he is not very popular here any more (compared to Eastern Europan countries, for example). Next week we're having Contract to Kill and then Sniper Special Ops. Whoo-hoo!

The movie was dubbed in Italian (as all movies are over here), but the Thai bits were dubbed as well (which I didn't like), so there were no subtitles at all.
As for the movie itself, it's sad to say I found it greatly disappointing. Story didn't make much sense, action was lackluster, characters were unmemorable, and CGI looked straight out of a videogame. That said, Seagal looked a bit more in shape here than in his previous efforts. Unfortunately, that's the only positive thing I can think of about the movie. :(

A little late but here is my thoughts on Attrition. After 3 watches I can say that this movie is good but I was expecting something better (which may be my fault). Seagal gives one of his better performances in his dtv era and the fights are decent with Seagal mostly performing them. My problem is that it was promoted as his best movie in 20 years and I don't agree with that statement. Pistol Whipped, Urban Justice, Driven to Kill were much better movies with more hardcore violent action. The action in Attrition was a bit tame and too short. The final fight was good but over to soon. It's still a good movie just not one of his best.

Here in Holland Seagal is populair too. Because once in a while he is on tv a lot. This week and next week we had Killing Salazar and Force Of Execution . Together with Maximum Conviction, Shadow Man, Attack Force and a couple more. And next week for 3 days in a row 2 movies in one evening.

Great review! So sad that this movie still didn't get a wide release. In Europe it's only released in 3 countries or so.
I wish that 365 flix didn't exist. That whole website is dead the way

No release in Holland indeed... But I downloaded the movie, and put dutch subtitles in it. Even the chinese (or what language it is) has subtitles. Gives it another dimension, the movie is really great!

I quite liked it, certainly a step up.

Some nice arty touches and it looked good.

End fight was a bit short.

It's a real shame this one had such a limited release when Beyond the Law and General Commander are easier to find.

I'm so mad I can't buy this movie in Canada... The cheapest I can find it on eBay that isn't the UK version is $45 with shipping  here is an idea, make a half decent movie and then make it not available
