The first "Bad Boys" is really good and is one of the better "Lethal Weapon" clones, because like that film, the two leads (Smith and Lawrence) have great chemistry and trade banter well without becoming annoying. The humour element is played very well between the two with Smith as the smooth-talking one and Lawrence as the motor-mouth, uptight one. Bearing in mind it was directed by Michael Bay and produced by Simpson/Bruickheimer productions, you know the action is going to be well staged and their is some great shootouts particularly the one at the end in the aircraft hanger. It also boasted a truly hateful villain played by the french guy who was the main villain in the Jet Li film "Kiss Of The Dragon". He is really adept, at playing villains!
It might not do any harm to see the origianl first, just to see what your in for, but I would be pretty confident that the sequel will be a good, stand alone film.

Wasn't the movie with Sean Penn also called Bad Boys?

I think both movies were pretty good in spite of The Fresh Prince and Martin(I hate this little ******* as well)..I saw the second one a few weeks ago and the action was very good and it was a pretty entertaining action film even though it went over 2 hours(around 2 hours and 15 mins, I think)..
I thought that S.W.A.T. was pretty good as well but most of the people that i know who saw both liked Bad Boys 2 better because it had more action..
I always see the first movie first before i see any sequels(but thats just me)..The second one in this case can stand on its own...

i have seen swat on a imported dvd weeks back and i thought it was 5/10....it was good in second half but it took to long to pick up and the first 50 mins were very boring in my view....bit like the foreinger which was very slow as well.if you are gonna make a action films then put action in it which is why i prefer hpd to forigner as although its not segal fighting the film overall is more interesting

Rastafari - Bad Boys is awesome, and is possibly one of my favourite films. I agree with MMCK in that Smith and Lawrence had excellent chemistry in that they bickered a lot, but they were also watching out for each other as well. Although the movie is funny as hell (mainly in the scenes between Lawrence and Smith and the woman they are supposed to be protecting), it isn't a comedy by any means and it never resorts to slapstick or silly humour. The action sequences are pretty spectacular and the movie has one of the best opening scenes in any movie, ever. The movie also gains extra cool points by playing a track by the great industrial metal band Stabbing Westward in a scene where our heroes go to a nightclub to find the bad guys.

I've been looking forward to Bad Boys 2 for weeks now. I watched the first one and thought it was okay at first viewing, after other viewings i found myself liking it even more and more...
