Ok first, i enjoyed some of the new DTV Releases so im not one that always makes "hard reviews" but i didn't like Submerged. So what i can say first, it is a sequel to the Foreigner, there is a short flashback with a scene from The Foreigner. But its a new story, and overall its good.

Story:

First it is not a typical Steven Seagal-Movie Story, and it isn't a typical Steven Seagal Movie. Its alla bout a nuke, and its more kind of a Thriller than an Action Movie.
Also im happy that the story is getting clearly after about 30 minutes, Today you die was to weird for me :)

Action:

The Action is made from "medium" to "good". There is a good car chase and some OK shooutouts, nothing spectacular, but ok. Unfortunately there are no fight scenes. (Ok there are 4 scenes where he punch's or kicks someone, but thats no as much i wanted, so even Out of Reach has more fightscenes.)

Actors:

The actors were all really good, i was impressend. Steven Seagal acts really good and he is a lot in this movie, unfortunately he's not fighting but he's a lot there.

Suspense:

So here is what made me so impressed. This movie is really suspensefull. Normaly if i don't see Steven fighting at least 5 Minutes im not happy, im angry. But this movie keeps me entertained for the whole 90 minutes, because it has really a lot of suspense, you really doesn't know exactly what happens now, so because of that, this movie is really watchable.

Music:

Good Music. Can be from a A Movie.

Effects:

Ok, nothing to say about, Helicopter in the air, bad - > Explosion at the End OK. Nothing special.

Overall:

Overall i enjoyed this movie as a good directed thriller with a lot of suspense and a good Seagal. Unfortunately there aren't any real fightscenes and there is'nt much "Steven Seagal Action". Hope that he kicks more asses in Mercenary!

But overall i enjoyed this movie as a suspensefull thriller.

I'll give it 3 of 5 Stars.

Hey hofmae! Thanks for submitting your reveiw hofmae! From what you wrote it sounds like a little more then what we got in terms of a story line and plot wise from his DTV release movies so far so that is good news. I like it to be suspensefull so it draws the watcher to the film. Too bad about those short fight scenes again, the whole point of a Seagal film is to watch this talented 7th Dan Aikido Master at work. Was there any obvious stunt doubles or voice overs? I hope not.

Anyway I am actually a little excited about the film, sounds good but not great nor special. I will wait to get this one. Thanks. :)

Yes right. I saw the stunt double several times, but not that much as in other movies. I couldn't here any voice dubbing. The fight scenes were really short, and all made by his double because you never see his whole body in a sequence.

The good thing about this movie is the suspense. I never thought that i can enjoy a Seagal movie without fights, but i did. But i really hope that his next movies are full of fights :)

Why would he need to use a double if the fight scenes were so short.

But from what you are telling me, the suspsense is what makes the film good, just like the original The Foreigner which I enjoyed alot. I think I will be pleased more with this film then Today You Die and Submerged, but I still feel so far Into The Sun is his best DTV release and The Foreigner his best DTV release overall, in my opinion. ;)

Yes if you liked foreigner you will like this one. Its not that weird than foreigner, and with a lot of suspense. But for the action you don't have to see this... I enjoyed Into the Sun too. It was made really professional, but it hasn't got enough action too. I mean imagine if there were more action like the market place scene, how sensationell would that be.... But as for now, we can only hope that we have more action in his next movies ;)

I hear you hofmae. Into The Sun looked like a good high budget movie with the music, the opening credits looked as if it were a theater released film. But yea, imagine if they put more time in the action scenes for Into The Sun, man that film had potential to be one of his best films in years.

But for Black Dawn I am pleased to here it is suspensefull like The Foreigner, because unlike many, I really enjoyed The Foreigner, I got the plot and story and it was a great thriller. A little bummed that Black Dawn is yet another Seagal DTV film with short a couple second fight scenes but I still have faith in Seagal and am hoping Shadows Of The Past will be a landmark DTV film for him. ;)

Yes i mean, ok there are some crappy new movies, but at least he make's a lot of movies, so we have now about 4 or 5 movies where we can hope that they're good :)

I loved Out For A Kill, don't know why so many members bashed it, but the fights were very climatic and the most fights in a DTV release film for Seagal. I really was impressed with Out For A Kill. ;)

I have a question to clear up the action thing for me, a little better. Is it true that aikido is an art, that you should be able to do as you get older as opposed to other martial arts?

Absolutly, but Seagal has just showcased less and less of his art in his recent DTV release films, why, I do not know.

I don't think it has to do something with his weight. Because we don't want to see him flying around, fans just want to see him breaking some arms and use his hands to cut people :) But maybe he don't know that this is soo importan for us...

aikidoboynj

"Lookin fit Nelson"
Seagal not doing his own fighting...really lame.
I hope I like this movie even though its his stunt double doing all the stuff i like about Seagal movies
