Cars!

This is a thread for you to post the autos you find interesting, or if you have questions about something car related.

Now I know you are all environmentalists because of Steven Seagal ...
But seriously, what do you think of this SUV? I need some input from the civillian public for my marketing report.

4.0L V6 250hp; more than 270lbs.ft torque; 2WD or 4WD;

Well, it's very pretty...

But I've never seen the point of SUVs for city driving. That's a car for the country, for someone who has to transport dogs to a dog show, or a delivery vehicle for work-from-home catering businesses, or something like.

The size is more for prestige, but the worst thing about it is that because it rides so high, if it's in a collision with anything smaller than another SUV, it will kill or seriously maim the occupants of the vehicle in question, regardless of any safety devices the hit vehicle may have, because it will simply squash the other vehicle flat.

It's a car for people who think bigger gives them more points in the prestige column.

A totally impractical vehicle for city driving, in my humble opinion.

It is the brand new: 2005 Nissan Pathfinder!

Well TD thanks for your view (but you could also kill with a penny if you throw it off of a roof of a CN tower). Maybe I should've given you a clearer 'picture' of what this SUV is like. It's in the size range of the new Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Explorer, Chevvy TrailBlazer, a bit larger than the new Toyota 4Runner. This is a 2005 model Nissan Pathfinder. Its looks closely resemble those of the full size SUV Nissan Armada (that's in the size range of the Lincoln Naviagotor, Suburban, Yukon Denali LX, Cadillac Escalade).

This is a very practical SUV. It's good for towing your boats to your summer houses; it's got room for you to put your grocery bags when you do shopping. There's enough room for your whole family, and it has the luxury of a German car coming standard in this one. Basically, it outcompetes all other SUVs in this range, and its pricing will be around that of the competitors'.

Ultimate Garage: Pontiac and a Ferrari!

The classics that I'm stuck on are the muscle cars from the 60's. On top of the list I have a '69 Pontiac GTO!

The 1976 El Camino is also nice (that's the one Seagal had in the beginning of Exit Wounds - the one that had to blow up ... they wouldn't've blown up a GTO :=)

Tora how about a new Lamborghini Murcielago?

How about a 4-door Bugatti (the new Maseratti Qattraporte is nicer though)?

Did you know that there are also 4-door Bugattis:

Prowler:

Prowler: a beautiful car, much nicer live than in the picture (believe me if you haven't seen one on the roads, quite common here relatively to a Ferrari - I've seen 5 driving here last year); but Prowlers are unreliable and poorly built. It is a collector's car, not a driving car. Two thumbs down! (it is nice to look at for awhile ... until you see a Ferrari)

Celebrating Earth Day:

How about a few earth friendly cars!!! The cars above are beautiful but my ego doesn't really need it I guess I'm big headed enough already

Anyway. I think I look pretty good on the back of the little Himallayn burros or ponies but after 1/2 a day, my bottom and back do hurt pretty bad.

My favorite car was Gertrude, a little 1968 Volkswagon convertible. I drove her til the engine fell out from a rusting frame. She was a great little car. I used her like a jeep in the mountains of Mexico and the people used to cheer me in the villages when I drove in to do my clinics. The kids would wash her while I worked and then I'd give them a ride. Some of the most fun I've ever had in a car.

The other night on PBS they were showing that the 3000%increase in cars in China is producing measurable pollution on our pacific coast. Beijing has thick smog everyday but the government is trying to reduce it with the resistence of people who cannow afford bug SUVs. New Delhi and Calcutta both have terrible smog but are forcing the buses and auto rickshaws to use propane and it is making a big difference.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but the love of big cars is killing all of us.

New cars = better fuel economy.

China's smog is not due to cars mostly. China has less cars, much less than North America, but the rate of increase in smog production is catching up.

PLUS, now the SUVs have better fuel mileage than those 5 years ago.

Coal is a very big cause of the smog in Asian countries!

UN stats show that Beijing's smog is from cars 2003. None of the cars in China have pollution controls. The import agreement for even American cars entering China does not require any pollution controls. Jeeps are the big thing there at the moment and clubs take people out and teach people how to high line up hills which doesn't do the hills much good either. And even though I'm from a state (Alaska) that funds itself on oil I think conservation is overdue and the SUVs eat gas and do not have that much reduction in CO2 output over 5 years ago.
