D-Tox (2002) starring Sylvester Stallone

I recently rewatched Stallone's D-Tox (or Eye See You as it was also called) starring Kris Kristofferson, Jeffery Wright, Tom Berenger, Stephen Lang, Robert Patrick and Courtney B. Vance. The film was shot in 1999 but suffered a number of production problems and so was not released until 2002 when it went straight to DVD.

Like a number of other films from this period of Stallone's career I think this is a hidden gem with a lot to enjoy upon rewatching. Although there is a fair amount of action, with the final fight scene being particularly impressive, the film is more like a slasher film and indeed it was directed by Jim Gillespie who also directed 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer'. I think this is part of the reason that Universal sat on the film for so long as they just didn't know how to market it, either as a Stallone action vehicle or a horror film. On top of that Stallone gives what I think is one of his best performances as the grieving, troubled and alcoholic FBI agent. In particular there is one scene in the film (which I won't spoil) that you would just not expect to see in a typical Stallone film or any film starring an action hero like him. The supporting cast is excellent and several of them have gone on to much bigger roles. The Wyoming location is suitably claustrophobic too.

Overall I would recommend checking this film out either for the first time or a second viewing as it's no where near as bad as the critics said when it came out.

I watched this years ago and enjoyed it too. I have enjoyed the majority of Stallone's movies, even the ones that are supposed to be terrible such as The Specialist.

There are so many movies these days that get bad reviews, but i enjoy. I think i enjoy some movies more now after being subjected to some awful movies such as Out For Reach and a load of Van Damme and Snipes trash. :D

I agree about Stallone's films they are all pretty good even the so called awful ones. I actually really like The Specialist, it's got both a good story and good cast.

I agree about enjoying films that have got bad reviews. Quite a few films I've watched at the cinema recently have been slated but I've actually really enjoyed them like Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. I think watching so many rubbish DTV films from Seagal etc has helped me put some other films into perspective. I also think some critics are really stuck up and take themselves and some films way too seriously.
