Dark Blue and The Life Of David Gale

I'm really looking forward to seeing these two movies and both will be out this week..Dark Blue with Kurt Russell has the look of Training Day and Kurt looks like he is back in form for this outing-my type of action flick here..
The Life of David Gale looks to be a seriously engrossing drama with Kevin Spacey the star here..
Enough of the kid stuff and these two gets my attention.
Cradle to the Grave will be out the following week but I think these two are the better films. Jet Li looks like spiderman in Cradle with the tremendous amount of wirework used in most of his scenes..I'll probably give it a look though in a few weeks..Next week it will be coming out all by itself with no competition and so it should do very well nonetheless..

I agree that "Dark Blue" looks good. Kurt Russell has always been a good actor, even though he never seems to get talked about alot. Hopefully, Dark Blue is as good as the previews make it look, and makes a profit. As for "The Life of David Gale", I'm mixed on that. Spacey is a good actor, and the movie seems like it might be dramatic, but alot of these thrillers fizzle out, and have bad endings. I def. want to see "Cradle 2 the Grave". It's not Li's choice to use wires. (Blame Joel Silver), but even with them, Cradle looks tite. The trailer kicks ass, and the end fight with Li and Mark D. (can't spell his last name) looks like the fight from RMD, only better.

 Tommy, you sound like Memphis Bleek from the old Seagal site-Is it you?
I agree it looks like one of Li's better movies and the matchup with Mark D. at the end should be well worth the wait. I still prefer watching serious action with serious fights and not all this flying all over the place..I agree that it has a lot to do with what Silver wants but to me it takes away the realism and I am yet to see Li fight without the use of wires. I just want to see him actually fight someone in a serious manner without the use of wires for a change..

I've heard good things about Dark Blue. I'm also looking forward to The Life of David Gale. I love Kevin Spacey in anything he does. He's a great actor.

I'm also looking forward to Old School. I love Will from SNL. I hope it's as funny as they make it sound.

It's Memphis... You sound like Bahamas Mike.... As for wires, I don't like them, but I don't write these movies, so I just accept the fact that they're being used. I agree it takes away from any type of realism, but it's a popular trend, so expect to see them alot more. Have you seen "Foreigner" yet? Man did that suck... BTW... "City by the Sea" w/Deniro comes out on video today. I wasn't able to see it in theatres, so I'll prob. rent it. Peace

let me know how you like it. I was saddened to see him teamed up with Eddie Murphy. I hope this one is much better.

I actually liked "Showtime". What didn't you like about it?

 Yep Memphis its me Bahamas Mike. I thought that Foreigner was ok and even though a little confusing and slow in some areas it was more what i like than some of the teenage action flicks that are coming out today. I liked it at least as much as Half Past Dead. Seagal was ok in HPD but it got a little too pg-13 for me in some areas..What did you think of HPD. I want to get City by The Sea also. It was based on actual events and stars Deniro so i gotta see it.
Showtime was ridiculous and really let me down..Eddie Murphy needs to be put to sleep. Its been a long time since he made a movie with sense..How about that Pluto Nash..
I think that this year is gonna be a better year for movies though-especially after all the crap that came out last year-how could it not be better. There's gonna be a lot more big movies this summer and a lot better ones.

With this latest string of really bad Eddie Murphy movies, I just don't have the respect I used to. So when I heard he was teamed up with DeNiro, I lost it. For one thing, DeNiro doesn't need a 'buddy'.
The more I watched the more annoyed I got.

How's life been? As for Seagal's latest movies, I think they pretty much suck. HPD was so lame. The action was watered down and went by so fast, none of it made much sense. Ja Rule added nothing to the film, and Seagal looked old, tired and bored. The ending sucked, and the supporting cast was instantly forgettable. Morris Chesnut doesn't make a good bad guy. As for "Foreigner", that sucked even more. It was more violent, but had no style, or visual flare to it. The chain smoking bad guy was a riot because he killed more people than Seagal did in record time. It was trying to be like "The Bourne Identity" meets "The Transporter", but both of those were way better. Seagal needs to either make Siege 3 or else possibly just call it quits. He isn't emphasizing quality anymore, and even though he's still pocketing several million, nobody is seeing or liking his movies, so why bother?

In 2003, there's going to be alot more R-Rated movies.

*Dark Blue
*Cradle 2 the Grave
*Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions
*Bad Boys 2
*T3
*Life of David Gale
*Tears of the Sun

As for "City by the Sea", it flopped in theatres, but it looks good. I wouldn't see it though if Deniro wasn't in it.

That's exactly my thoughts on Eddie Murphy. He just needs the money.

The difference is Murphy doesn't really need another $15-20 million (he's probably already got hundreds of millions), but he knows family films are popular these days. (With the exception of Pluto Nash). Seagal has no other choice but to make routine action movies. Murphy just needs to find better comic/action vehicles and he could easily make a comeback.

I thought HPD was ok and Foreigner was'nt as bad as all the critics are making it out to be..I thought both were at least as good as Exit Wounds. I finally saw XXX and it turned out to be exactly how i though it would be but even worse..I think I'm gonna start wathcing Dirty Harry movies again with all this blue screen teenage bond action dominating the big screen nowadays..I just finished watching an older action movie with the bad cop scenario ala Training Day and Dark Blue-It was a movie with Nick Nolte called Q&A. It was a pretty good little movie and I love those bad guy cop movies which brings to mind the movie called Internal Affairs(not bad either).
As for Seagal-I would prefer he keep making movies that go straight to dvd as long as they are serious action movies and I'm looking forward to see Out For a Kill, Belly of The Beast, The Rescue and The Yakuza. If he keeps making movies like this I will be happy to see them if only in video release. I dont want to see him making pg action flicks anymore..Come on though HPD was'nt that bad-it started out pretty good and the ending was'nt that bad. Your right though; Ja Rule did'nt add anything to it. I thought the bad guy in Foreigner was quite funny and the little sucker just would'nt die.
In the immediate future i want to see Dark Blue this week and The Life Of David Gale. I also want to check out Tears of the Sun with Willis(and directed by the guy who did Training Day too).
The summer movies are gonna be much bigger this year than last and they're not gonna be kid flicks like they were last year..
I will be seeing T3; Master And Commander: The Matrix for sure and there are a lot more that will be worth a see.

I can't believe you liked HPD and Foreigner, yet disliked XXX. Opinions vary, but XXX had tons of action, and wasn't that implausible. HPD was a pale imitation of Under Siege. There wasn't one thing I liked about it.... plus they used wires throughout. I'm surprised you didn't comment on that. LOL Tears of the Sun looks good. Willis is always a dependable actor. His success comes because he can play a wide range of roles. If Seagal could do that, then he'd still be making movies that debut in theatres. Oh well, that's the past. Now it's off to STV land with Van Damme.

BTW... I saw "Q&A" before. It wasn't bad, nothing too memorable. The acting was good, but the ending was lame, with Nick Nolte shooting it out in the precicnt. That made no sense. Armand Assante was the main reason I watched it. He's an under-rated actor who's been doing supporting roles for years.

I hated XXX as well.

I bet you $100 that either The Yakuza,The Rescue or both will end up in theatres.I have heard there's gonna be a $40m budget for The Rescue and a $60m budget for The Yakuza. If done right, with a good cast, director & advertising,I see no reason why it shouldn't do well.I'm sure Out For A Kill & BOTH will go straight to dvd...so what?Lots of actors have some films going straight to dvd and on the big screen as well.I believe all Van Damme flicks now debut on dvd.
