Present day, in Los Angeles, the sun is about to set. There is a dog running down to the beach from the porch. A fifteen years old girl named Julie Lovejoy runs toward the dog and calling, “Minky”. The kind of dog is a chocolate lab mix type. Julie pets her and gives her a kiss. Minky licks on her cheeks and lips.
Jack walks down to the beach toward his house and he sees Julie is playing with Minky. Minky knows Jack is coming and she runs toward him. She goes through between Jack’s legs and keeps wagging her tail. Julie walks toward him and Jack says, “Where’s your mother?”
“She said she had to do a quick run to the store to get few things.”
“Are you really sure about that?” He seems suspicious then he raises his eyebrows.
“Yeah, that’s what she told me.” They start walking back to the porch of Jack’s beach house. The music begins playing as the camera starts pulling away while they’re walking to the porch.
About an hour later, Julie’s mother named Haley arrives at Jack’s place as the camera turns when she gets out from her car to the trunk to collect shopping bags. The camera continues to follow her as she gets in the house toward the kitchen. She drops the bags on the floor in the kitchen.
Julie walks down from the stairs and approaches to Haley. She says, “Hey Mom, how’s shopping?”
“Pretty good and I got ourselves some dinner so we’re going to have a cookout. Where’s your Dad?”
“He’s in the shower.”
“All right.”
Couple of hours later, the camera starts rotating around Jack, Haley and Julie while they’re eating dinner outside at the porch.
Haley says to Jack “What do you really feel about the whole thing? I mean we are trying to reconnect with each other after everything that happened few weeks ago.”
“Honestly, I’m still trying to figure some things out. I mean I’m so glad that I found out that I have a daughter which I never knew about. And with you coming back into my life, I’m not so sure what to think about that despite to what happened in the past that caused us to be apart.”
“Jack…you haven’t gotten away from that thought, don’t you?”
“Well, I don’t.”
“Please, Jack. I need your help.”
“When we finally saw each other few weeks at that restaurant, didn’t you really think things would have been better?”
“At some point, yes.”
“To me, it won’t.”
“Why not?”
He gets up and walks down to the beach. He stares at the waves of the ocean and listen to the sound of the waves. Julie gets up and walks toward Jack at the beach and says, “Dad? Are you ok?”
“I don’t really have a good feeling about this especially about your mother.”
“Why would you feel this way?”
“I don’t know…something is telling me that something isn’t right around here.”
The camera turns toward Jack’s face slowly with suspense music playing as he looks back to his beach house staring at Haley. Haley is cleaning up the table. He turns back to Julie and says, “Hmm…maybe I shouldn’t tell you this right now, not when she is around.”
“I’ll call you tomorrow once I’m done with shopping with my friends. Then we can set up a meet, sounds good?”
“Yeah, sounds perfect.” Both of them walk back in the house. Haley says, “Jack, are you all right?”
“I don’t know.” As he walks by and sits down in the living room. He grabs a picture that is standing on the coffee table. Haley says to Julie, “Can you go upstairs, please?” Julie leaves upstairs. Haley follows him and sits down next to him.
“Jack, tell me. What’s bothering you?”
“Hmm…do you really want to know?”
“Why did I come back to you?”
“That’s what I’m asking, I’m just wondering why you came back to me.”
“Because I love you, Jack.”
“I don’t think I believe you.”
“Come on, Jack. Why do you have to think about the past that we’ve done?”
“****in’ Christ, Haley. Why don’t you even wake up?”
“Wake up on what?”
“Didn’t you lie to Candice?”
“Lied to her about what?”
“About what happened with us like why did we break it off?”
Haley gets quiet and feels guilty about it.
“Haley, you told Candice that you blew me off and you had feelings for your ex. And that didn’t exactly happen.”
“Jack, I know I’ve cheated on you before and I know that was the real reason you broke it off with me.”
“And don’t you even forget once you cheat, you’re always going to be a cheater. And you know what? Sometimes I even wonder if I’m the real father to Julie.”
“You are.”
“Let’s see about that.”
“Jack, I haven’t seen anyone after we were split and I raised Julie on my own.”
“Really? Yeah, I’m sure you did.” As he turns his face away and rolls his eyes.
Haley turns over and sits on Jack’s lap. “Jack…why are you acting this way to me?”
“Just tell me the truth. Why did you come back? Why did you want to find me? Don’t tell me this is because you still love me.”
Haley puts her hands onto Jack’s face then petting gently and gives him a kiss.
“I love you, Jack.”
Jack turns away and lies down on the couch. Haley gets up and walks away. The camera turns toward Jack then moves passing Jack toward a picture that is standing on the coffee table. It reveals a picture of Jack, Haley and Julie together that is taken two weeks ago.
The next day, outside at a park, the camera is moving toward Jack from the ground then turns facing Jack’s face then reveals Julie shows up next to Jack.
“Hey Dad…”
Jack looks at Julie and smiles. He says, “How’s shopping?”
“We had fun and I bought several new clothes, thanks for giving me some money to get more clothes.”
“Anytime.”
“So, since my Mother isn’t here and you told me last night that you were feeling something isn’t right going on around here, right?”
“Yeah.”
“What do you mean by that including my mother?”
“Well, for one thing, did you ever know why I wasn’t there when you were born?”
“No, my Mom never told me a thing about it. All she said was that she left you.”
“She hasn’t told you a thing but that? Well, you know that isn’t true. The real reason that I wasn’t with her when you were born was because she cheated on me and I can’t have a tolerance on cheating. So here’s a thing, I know she is seeing someone behind my back.”
Julie seems surprised and says, “Dad…how do you know that?”
“Just a hunch. And when someone cheats, will always be a cheater.”
“That’s true and what I’m about to tell you about her. You are right that she is seeing someone but…she has been with him since I was born.”
“Since you were born? Wow…why am I not that surprised about that? I just ****ing knew it.”
“But the real reason she came back to you is because I forced her to and I asked her to. I wanted to know who my real father is and I wanted to meet my father.”
Jack begins having small tears coming out from his eyes. He hugs and holds Julie. He whispers to her eyes “Thank you so much.”
“I love you, Dad. I’m very happy that I met you and to be honest, I want to live with you, not with my mother.”
“Why’s that?”
“You will not going to be pleased to hear this…the person that Haley has been seeing is named Arvin and he is a pimp. He turns her into a prostitute. Prostitution is her job. And also Arvin has been attempting to request me to have sex with him and my mother doesn’t even know about it. I’ve tried to tell her but she didn’t even listen to me but too busy to be in love with that sick pimp mother****er.”
“He asked you for sex? Requested you to have sex with him? Jesus Christ. I am going to take custody of you but the problem is we were never married.”
“We’ll find a way, don’t worry. Besides isn’t your friend, Scott, a cop?”
“Yeah, he is and I haven’t talked to him in long time but I’ll look into getting in touch with him especially with your situation.”
“And also she is working with another pimp named Nino. He and Arvin are best friends and they work with each other closely.”
“Nino Williams? I’ve heard of him. Why am I not too surprised with all of this? I mean, I don’t see a reason why your mother has to do that kind of stuff especially lying to me all about it.”
“Yeah, I don’t understand that.”
“I better hope she isn’t turning into next Cheyenne.”
“Cheyenne?”
“She used to be one of my good friends when I was young.”
“What happened?”
“Wait…you never knew what was going on around here?”
“No, my mother never told me a thing.”
“That’s funny because I do believe this is the reason why she is hiding her dark secret.”
“Probably.”
“Cheyenne died few weeks ago and she was killed by my ex wife named Leanne. But I never knew exactly why she did this. Then Leanne committed suicide because she wanted to prove the truth that she still loved me. I never believed her and she was gone for 3 years by faking her own death to get herself disappeared. When she came back and she finally admitted that she was seeing someone even already had kids with that person. And I never had a kid with her. The truth is that I never knew who the person was. Leanne didn’t tell me who the person was but I know I will find out who the person is. Honestly, I get this feeling that there is a big web that connects to each other and I think I might have an idea of who is really behind this whole thing.”
“That’s crazy, Dad. No wonder why you are fed up with lot of things because people cheat, betrays, backstabs and hurt each other for all wrong reasons.”
“I know and I am somewhat surprised that you haven’t had a slightest idea of what’s really going on.”
“I mean I did see some things but I never knew the reason why because my mother never told me anything about it. Even she wanted to hide the information about you.”
“Maybe I should follow her when she goes to work.”
“Yeah and that would be the only way that you can find out what she is really up to.”
“Don’t worry Julie, things will be okay.” He smiles.
The camera turns away from them and starts traveling through traffic of people walking at the park.
