Dojos in Los Angeles

Hello!

This is my first post...

If I understand it correctly, Sensei trains his senior students out of his home, and these students operate dojos in Los Angeles.

Would anyone be able to lend me guidance as to how I would locate such dojos?

I thought it would require a simple, quick google search...but alas, it has proved more complicated than that! :)

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Laura

Sorry to disapoint you but......

Sensei does not have any schools in California. The Tenshin Dojo in California closed after Matsouka Sensei left to go back to Japan (he has since returned and is not affiliated with Seagal). The Tenshin Aikido Federation, which is ran by Luis Santos Sensei, who is under Shihan Seagal, is based out of Floriday and has a few branch and affiliate dojos. His site is www.tenshindojo.us

You can brouse that site and it can give you info. Anyway, as far as Tenshin Aikido goes, there are no dojos in California, however there are very good quality schools there. You just have to look and observe the classes. Hope this helps a little!!!!

A year-and-a-half, eh? Glad you finally decided to post! :D

In case you haven't had a chance to look yet, I found this for you to give you a better idea of the relationship between your area, L.A./Santa Monica, and Ventura. :) Just click on the small picture below here to enlarge it. And, in case you're, not aware, to enlarge it even further (as with many pics on the internet), just wave your cursor around the bottom right-hand corner of the picture until a button shows up, then click that.

I don't have any personal experience with this dojo, but if I lived in LA county I would definitely check out Sensei Larry Reynosa's Makoto Dojo in Ventura. He trained with Take Sensei from the time he returned from Japan until recently. When I first became interested in Aikido I ordered Sensei Reynosa's "Beginners guide to Aikido" and he sent me an autographed copy and invited me to stop by and train at his school any time. He seemed very nice.

If you are ever down here in San Diego I would highly recommend Sensei Goldberg at Mission Valley Aikido.

Arigato!

Konbawah!

I sustained injury to both my kneecaps, so I have been a bit out of commision...

However, I did order Reynosa's book and read it...and plan on re-reading it....

Serena, thank you very much for the map. The commute would not be feasible without a car...but it is something I am keeping in mind for the future.

Actually, the people I have spoken to say Ventura is beautiful...and that the people tend to be warm & kinder than Los Angeles.

I guess I'll just have to see where the future leads me!!!

Thanks for the link purplelotus!

Best,

Laura

I'm so sorry to hear about your knees, Laura! :( I hope your healing is progressing. Is that why you haven't been around lately? Well, glad to have you back here with us again. :) Just in time to help us celebrate the holidays! And you're welcome for the map. :) I hope you do get the chance to visit there some day.

You know I know of students of Reynosa Sensei that have knee problems & other health problems-martial arts can be of help with your health & even if you're limited in areas-you can still learn to defend yourself.
