The time has come the Euro 2004 championships (football) are due to begin this evening. Hopefully the tournament will be as enjoyable as the last world cup in South Korea / Japan.

Who do you's think will win this year, i think the tournament will be close. I think there are a few teams that can win it.

I hope for Russia ... but LOL you know the odds of that ...

I've always admired Brazil and their soccer playing. So I'll be rooting for them.
Italy is also one of my favorites.

Ah what a pity,Russians lost their first game to Spain. But they started it well.Dammit...oops....this is bloody...they're in the group of death along with Portugal and Greece.
I'll be supporting Russians with all fours and in case they fail,I'll switch to Portugal as they sort of remind me of Brazil who, alas, can't play for Europe as well
Alright, all soccer fans, unite in a battle of life and death! :D

Hey Suzi,it's a pity there's no Turkey at the competiton. They'd rock if they were there.
But anyways, such a competition is a great fest for all the soccer fans!

One question....

Do we (USA) have a soccer team?
I know we had one years ago for either the Olympics or the Pan-American Games. Anybody knows?

Although we probably suck....we gotta suck at something.... :D

American soccer team did pass to the quarter finals at the world 2 years ago.It was a big surprise as they even defeated Portuguese themselves.Their goalkeeper Brad Friedel is playing in the English Premiere leage in Blackburn Rovers.
And their best striker Landon Donovan, though I'm not so sure, was supposed to play in one of the German clubs.

So, that means Italy all the way baby!

Speaking of Italian soccer these days, they're facing a big crisis and they made their hard way to the final stage of Eurocup 2004 not for granted.
Although they have many great players, such as Totti,Cassano,Del Piero,Vieri,Super Pippo and Maldini,Nesta and Cannavaro in defence, well,I'd love to see them rocking like Italians used to many many years ago.But I like an attacking soccer more so I'd still go more for Portugal.

Good to know ....thanks Tora...

I don't know why people in the US are no into soccer. It's big in just about every country in America.

Smile dammit!
Football or soccer as you call it is the world's No1 sport. Not being funny or anything but as you aren't the best at it perhaps that explains the apathy towards it.

Depeds...

Soccer #1??? ... You can only say that it is the most 'popular' sport ... but as far as liking is concerned ... different people prefer different things. Soccer is the cheapest to play ... that's why people play it ... not necessarily because they 'like' it, but because they need to take up time doing something, and people in many places cannot afford to do anything but play soccer for exercise ... or for fun for that matter. ... I personally find hockey more fun ... and soccer on par with basketball ... baseball comes next.

I think soccer is actually quite popular here in the States, at least among young people. All four of my older nephews have played it on organized leagues for years and still continue to do so, as well as two of my nieces. It's offered through many different community sources, at least here in Michigan, for both spring and summer leagues. And two of the boys had to hunt through several organizations to find openings for the summer leagues just now, as they were all filled in their area and kids were on waiting lists.
