Absolutely hilarious. Steven Seagal is doing a comedy (Things must be desperate).

The one-time ‘It’ lad of Kung-Fu Cinema (who essentially pissed it away overnight by making environmentally-friendly rubbish) has agreed to take the mickey out of himself for a new David Zucker [“Scary Movie 3”] vehicle at Fox Searchlight.

According to Variety, the “Under Siege” and “Exit Wounds” hero agreed to do the film, as a result of Seagal parodying his tough guy image in the producer and studio's upcoming “The Onion Movie”.

Zucker and Netter are working with Steamroller Productions, the Seagal company run by Phil Goldfine, to find the right comic vehicle. Ideas include having him play a bumbling federal agent.

Meantime, there are about four new Seagal B-action movies due out by the end of the year.

the key is a well known co-star

As promising as it sounds, if its not done well, it could be pretty cheezy. Its very refreshing to known there using a professional director (No Oblowitz) and are gearing up for a good script. But lets remember, it may be difficult for those non-seagal fans to picture him in a comedy. Maybe a co-star, along the lines of an Eddie Murphy or Martin Lawrence, sort of like the Morris Chestnut in US2. Im just glad to see Seagal catching the interest of the general public again, that Mountain Dew commercial was obviously well received.

This is a big step in Seagal's career. This is EXACTLY what he needs right now, a shift in his public image away from the cheap DTV action movies.

Leslie Nielsen is getting old, so the Airplane guys need a new "straight man" as it were... Which makes room for Sensei. And the completely serious actor in the middle of comedic situations approach will be perfect for Seagal, look how great he was in the Mountain Dew commercial.

Great news! I for one am very excited. :D

Nice to see you back, Disciple. :)

Well, I don't think anyone who has seen the Mountain Dew commercial would have
a hard time at all finding him very suitable for a major comedy role, especially of the same slapstick sort where he so non-chalantly knocks down, and elbows every bad guy in the room, all the while maintaining his dignity and charm...
I found the commercial quite amusing, so I imagine a longer film of the same vein, and it really makes me grin...
I think he would be well received in something similar to the naked gun type of movies...
Those were tooooooooo funny, imo...

Good Luck to him...
I'm told by people who've met him that he can be pretty funny.

All i can say is it appears that steven seagal must be really low on money. He seems to be signing on to whatever projects they offer him no matter how stupid it is. I'm a huge fan of his but i hate to see him selling out.

Maybe he is and maybe he isn't...
Who really cares?
He's a good man, and he cares about
others, and he's charitable...
Do you have six kids to feed?
Just let the man do what he chooses
to do, after all, it's his life, and I doubt it's easy...

He makes me smile everytime!

I love the way he always avange someone or himself (?). That's the one thing that makes Steven so cool. I always laughs when he kicks ass.

Maybe he just wants to keep active. I don't see how that's selling out.

And Lotus...he doesn't have six children to feed. As I understand two of them are adults. So he has two teenagers and two young kids. That would be only four, which he has an obligation to support.

Oh, I know Jalu, but I'm sure they still ask dad for a lot things...
Maybe not though, and I was really just trying to make a point...

Well....I'd ask dad for lots of things too......specially that one.
He can be my sugar daddy any time.

What girl wouldn't want a taste of that sugar daddy, I bet he's sweet, sweet, sweet...
Probably nice to be pampered by those well traveled hands...And things and money don't have a damn thing to do with it...

Steven Seagal is no comedian, but he can sure be funny, and that's what matters!

Seagal a comedian? I don't think so. Just because he's to star in a comedy, that doesn't make him a comedian. Martin Lawrence is funny in comedies, but if you see his acts, he ain't that funny relative to other comedians and even the amateurs. I hope it's something like an action comedy, parody or no parody, that's what Steven Seagal name stands for - ACTION!

"All i can say is it appears that steven seagal must be really low on money. He seems to be signing on to whatever projects they offer him no matter how stupid it is."

Like I've mentioned before, he just can't say NO. Maybe he's got such a big heart that he does not give rejections, and rather welcomes everything coming his way (it used to be that he welcomed opponents onto the mat against him, and now he welcomes as much business as he can get). Seagal's kids (some) are adults, and do not require support from parents, so I don't think that Steven Seagal has issues with supporting his big family.

Seagal's "My Giant" part was very, very small. He played himself, and there wasn't much acting at all. Plus, "My Giant" wasn't really a comedy. So far, Steven Seagal portrayed himself as a man with a great sense of humour (showing his 'talent' in some dialogues over his movie career) but he has not appeared in a real comedy (not himself at least ... only actors pretending to be him). Steven Seagal said at an interview that he would not be doing comedies, but that was more than five years ago. Time for a change? I hope it's something that will work for Steven Seagal, and I wish him luck with everything he does.

As always, I'm looking forward to any Steven Seagal film.

Havent you ever taken a chance on life..It would be bloody boring doing the same old routine day after day..to me anyway. So i think if he had the chance to try something
else then he should grab it..As for him being broke.1.its got nothing to do with you or anyone else here and 2..One day he might be poor in money..but he will always be rich
in other ways...Heather.

Steven sending himself up would be absolutely hilarious - as long as HE plays it straight, and someone else is the comic relief. That's what made the Mountain Dew commercial so funny, and yes, even Exit Wounds and The Glimmer Man had their moments.

If, however, they try to make him the comic relief, that wouldn't work at all. And, unfortunately, that's what it looks like Zucker is planning to do, from the gist of the article above - "a bumbling federal agent". Oi. Steven Seagal as Inspector Clouseau? - what next - Jet Li as his "little yellow friend"?
