Other Franchise sells eight to Japan's Artport

Only small section on Steven Seagal. This contains a part about the movie Out Of Reach??

Elie Samaha's Franchise Pictures is in aggressive form at the American Film Market this year, having already closed an eight-picture deal with Artport in Japan that Samaha says is worth in excess of $9m.

Among the titles to which Artport picked up rights are David Mamet's new picture Spartan, which stars Val Kilmer and William H Macy, Out Of Reach starring Steven Seagal and new action vehicles for Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

The deal was closed between Franchise's president of international distribution Mimi Steinbauer and Artport chief Junichi Matsu****a.

Newly financed Franchise has some of the market's most eagerly awaited films including Paul Verhoeven's next film Void Moon that is based on the best-seller by Michael Connolly and Kevin Reynolds' Tristan And Isolde, produced by Ridley Scott and starring James Franco.

Southern California construction magnate Ronald Tutor and co-investor David Bergstein recently acquired 49% of Franchise, which has a distribution deal with Warner Bros whereby Warner handles domestic rights on all Franchise pictures budgeted at more than $20m.

This year the arrangement will yield Rob Reiner's Alex And Emma aka Loosely Based On A True Story with Kate Hudson and Luke Wilson, the sequel The Whole Ten Yards with Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry reprising their original roles, and Andrew Fleming's The Wedding Party starring Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks among others.

The company has also signed a three-picture deal with Norris Film Works, the production company run by Chuck Norris' son Mike Norris, kickboxing off with the completed effects-heavy action picture Bells Of Innocence starring Chuck Norris as an angel overseeing a chess game between good and evil.

Franchise Pictures is not Steven's company is it? I heard he had his own production studio, a new one, since steamroller is no more...

Lotussan,
You're right, Steven does have a new production company!
But for the life of me, I cannot remember the name at the moment.
As far as I know "Steamroller" still exists.
God bless,

Upon looking for info regarding who is whom etc.

I found this older article that involves Elie Samaha & Franchise pictures:

Meanwhile, Nasso isn't the only Hollywood producer in hot water. The FBI is currently investigating producer Elie Samaha and his Franchise Pictures--though it's not because he was responsible for such stinkers as Battlefield Earth, 3,000 Miles to Graceland and Get Carter.

The Feds are looking into fraud allegations involving budgets for many of its movies, following a civil suit filed by its former partner, Germany-based Intertainment. (Though the FBI isn't commenting, Daily Variety quotes sources who say the investigation is related to Intertainment's lawsuit.)

For its part, the company claims Franchise Pictures grossly inflated the budgets for its films. Intertainment's deal with Franchise allegedly fell apart in 2000 when it realized that the company padded the budgets of at least 10 films, totaling some $100 million.

Samaha's attorney told Variety the producer is cooperating with the investigation.

Suziwong, yes that is the name of the production company:

The announcement of Emmett/Furla Films latest two pictures came in conjunction with an announcement by Steven Seagal regarding his new production/distribution entity. On May 20, 2002, "Daily Variety" reported, "Actor-producer Steven Segal has launched a production and sales company, Luminosity Media. He will produce and star in its first two projects in conjunction with Millennium/Nu Image. The pictures are "Belly of the Beast" and "Out for a Kill."
