Steven Seagal adds Freshman to $3m collectionRob Hughes Today, 5:48pm
Under Siege actor takes delivery of £7,500 signature model
Hollywood actor and musician, Steven Seagal has taken delivery of a one off guitar designed and built for him by Scottish-based Freshman Guitars.
Seagal first came across the brand last year during a US tour by blues rocker JJ Gilmour, one of the many musicians supported by freshman guitars. One of Gilmour’s appearances during the tour was as a support act for Seagal.
After great success in the States, the tour came to the UK, during which time, musical directors Harold Smith and Nate Holleman, who have played with acts such as BB King and George Benson, contacted the owner of Freshman Guitars, Sean Kelly, and requested a visit to its Scottish Headquarters.
Smith and Holleman left with three instruments, which were subsequently used on the DVD recording of the gig at Shepherds Bush and the remainder of the world tour.
One of the guitars was introduced to Seagal by Harold Smith and just a few days later, Sean Kelly received a phone call from the Under Siege actor, who spoke about how impressed he had been with the instrument and requested that Freshman design and build him a signature model fit for the purpose of studio and touring.
When complete, the guitar travelled over 4,000 miles and was hand delivered by Kelly himself to Seagal, who was particularly enamoured with its 12th fret Mojo Priest inlay. The guitar has now joined a host of prestige models in a $3million collection.
The guitar has been estimated by Guitarist magazine to be worth in the region of £7,500, but as a signature model, its true value is difficult to establish.
