God

Can you imagine being somewhere in the world where the concept of God or Gods doesn't exist. Think about going to that place and telling them what you believe and convince them that it is the way they should think when their culture has dictated that this very thing does not exist and the whole idea of God or Gods is just mythology. I imagine it being very difficult to say the least considering it is difficult enough as it is in a culture where we are aware of God and/or Gods. Maybe you could think of it as a Christian walking into a country where they believe the Phoenix is their God and trying to convince them to beleive it isn't true.

I personally believe that we are told from a young age that certain things such as God and the devil is true and that this is the way everyone should believe and as we grow we learn that these things are not necessarily true. I believe we convince ourselves that events in our lives are perpetrated by an all knowing presence when in actuality events happen for other reasons and not because of a God or Gods. This is not something etched in stone for me but it is where I am at right now in my thinking. ***just thought I would share that to explain some of my questions to the readers of this post.***

Misionaries HAVE died trying to share their faith in countries where there is no faith in any god. I just saw a commercial for a movie that was based on a true story, where some misionaries where killed. The natives to the country in the movie looked like they were from the jungle where outsiders very seldom go.

I will get back to you on the title of the movie.....

God is an idea until one fully learns to surrender and submit oneself to the Higher Self. To share knowledge or concepts are only words that falls short of the experience of God within. God cannot be contained in any experience, words, ideas or concept in reality God is bigger than all the experiences combined. You will know when someone speaks or write to you, anchored in the stillness of God, there is a resonance that your heart know what you mind don't.

Belief is from the conscious thinking level, the 10% level of the mind. Part of the mind would like to belief in God and Part of the mind would like to reject God either way they each provide the contrast that compliments each other, thus giving birth to duality. There are no final solutions or statements. There is only one Absolute Truth and that is the stillness that passes Understanding. The rest are relative.

Life is all about choice. One can only realize choice and make choices from the point of reference of a creator. My Teacher told me once that the ego in its rush for instant gratification needs to stake a claim in the world of spirituality so that it can hit the storm head on with answers. When the heart begins to break through the barriers of illusion and the mind can't wrap itself around God it will attempt to fit each new experience within the walls of its box and its identity. That is why all true Teachings ultimately point the finger back to your own heart.

These labels and these things we create in the name of God are illusions.
If you cannot stand in your Self and look out on your creation as the creator you won't know God but you might hold an idea of what God is or looks like. You might wish to be having the perfect experience and be doing what is most righteous for you God and humanity.

The fear of doing something wrong is great. As it is what follows is the need to make claim to something righteous.

The ego is very clever, our need to identify is inspired by all of the attention that is given to identity. God/Self creates but makes no rules about identification with creation. Free will is imbued into every part of creation as the most basic part of God, giving every person the freedom to choose how we look at ourselves and our creation. If we have turned away from the source of who we are we can also turn our attention back to it. Where we hold our attention is going to affect the mirror of our minds and it is going to reflect in both appearances and in the reflection of experience what we hold to be true. What is Truth and a constant resonates in all things and all beings. What resonates as a relative truth resonates through belief to individuals and possibly like minded or like thinking groups but the foundation of belief varies from individual to individual.

God? Was that who John Denver was talking to? lol
(I'm back)
In the beginning God was unaware of Himself. When He became aware of Himself, billions of Rays of Light burst from Him (the Souls of Humans). These Rays are endowed with the the same ability and intention to realize Themselves just as God realized Himself ... the catch is ... the mind cannot fathom Him. Only God can realize God. To do that, the sense of time and space and duality must dissolve. That's the secret. All else is mind which is governed by time and space. God exists beyond time and space.
The Sufi's refer to this as devastation of the "self"; to disappear Within God. Not such a terrible thing to do considering the Destination. Of course, we're in the car traveling on the road toward God; but God is already in the car ...
Peace

I posted earlier when I was in the Christmas mode and evidently it didn't show up here so I will do my best to retype what I said. I understand these concepts that you are telling me. My misunderstanding or comprehension of the concepts is not in question. What I am trying to initiate is the train of thought for you to think about what the world be like if the existence of God or Gods (in some cases) was never here. Pretend if you will, that the world has never heard of the concept of a greater being. Then I ask you to think what would this world be like? That is what I'm looking for.

Savage, hateful, barbaric, inhuman, what ever words you can think of that don't have "love" in them.

You are right. No love....no God. What do you get? Everything you listed.

A am confused on a few comments here on this thread. How does God...GOD, be unaware? When creating mankind, I DID find this about God: "All things were created by him and for him." Colossians 1:16
God is omnipodent, omnipresent, omniscience, immanence.

From reading the bible, it is my understanding we strive to be "like" God...living as he would. Loving others, helping others, doing what Jesus did while he was on earth. Where does it say we become a god?

Where is the information coming from? It contridicts the bible.

I found these in my study guide:
"The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it."~Psalms 89:11
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge."~ Psalms 19:1-2
"From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God."~Romans 1:20
"Lord you have made many things; with your wisdom you made them all. The earth is full of your riches."~ Psalms 104:24
"By wisdom the Lord laid the earth's foundation, by understanding he set the heavens in place."~Proverbs 3:19
"And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."~ Genesis 1:3 (read through verse 26 and it talks about when God made man.)
"By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible."~Hebrews 11:3

I just found this verse while digging for answers...."I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me." Isaiah 46:9

"He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!"~Psalms 147:4-5

There are many diffirent religions. Put them all together and they boil down to one four letter word "LOVE". "We should all love one another". There is no right or wrong way. Each person practices what feels right to them. If everyone "LOVED" one another, we would have no evil, no matter what religion we practice.

Pitts I'm curious as to why you think that the world be loveless without the concept of God. I do find that interesting.

P.S. and again I am not questioning anyones beliefs here just talking about a theoretical scenario.

How would you interpret John 14:6 "Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by me."???

It would be nice if everyone loved each other. Because of sin in the world, that is not the case.

Unfortunately loving others is not innate in us. You can see this in every day life. We get angry, we talk about others, we dislike someone, we don't like people telling us what to do, etc, etc. Loving ourselves is innate in us. I am going to do what ever it takes to get what I want. Lie, cheat, steal, kill, lust, etc, etc.

So, some form of rules and laws where brought into our society to quell this monster (self love) inside of all of us. Every population of people have some type of rules to abide by, in their region. A lot of these were enforced through a "spirit world" type threat, then evolved into a more gentle, kind, worship that we see today as religion, teaching love of others, kindness to other and compassion to others.

I believe if we don't have love for others, we will revert back to our natural instinct of survival of the fittest.

These are the teachings that you believe in. To you they are right, so they are right for you. There are many diffierent Churches that use these same scriptures, but come up with thier own and different interpretations, to them they are right, and they are right. To me no matter what the belief if it teaches love, it is right.

Most every religion believes in a supernatual something, somewhere, doing something. I think it is in us all, now. We have to dig deep and find it, polish it up, bring it out in the open, show it to everyone we meet...... "Love For Others".... it can and will defeat sin.

so Pitts you think that laws can only be made by if God or some omnipotent being exists? Is that what you are saying?

No, I'm saying that the lack of love for others, in us, causes us to have to have rules and laws. If we each had love for our fellow man, we would not need rules and laws. We each have the capacity within us, we just need to do it. If you loved someone would you hurt them, steal from them, kill them?

If one wishes to ask someone what would the world be like without the concept of God, one should perhaps ask someone who does not believe in God - an athiest. It doesn't take any imagination to see what lack of belief in God - love - would be like ... simply watch the evening news. Most have forgotten God and prefer to mire themselves down with "my religion your religion" "my country your country" etc etc. To see what life is like without the concept of God (God beyond religion differences) just look at the hatred, vengefulness, murder, wars, thievery in the world. The bandits of hell are marauding throughout the world, stripping everything clean of any goodness. Even though those bandits profess to believe in God, in truth, they only believe in what their finite minds have given life to. There is no compassion, no tolerance, no love, no peacefulness. Daily life is focused on attaining whatever jewels of illusion that can be found, jewels that shatter into dust in the end.

For those who have not forgotten ...
"All religions, all this singing,
One Song.
The differences are just
illusion and vanity.
The sun's light looks
A little different on this wall than
it does on that wall,
And a lot different on this other one,
But it's still One Light.
We have borrowed these clothes,
These time and place personalities
From a Light,
And when we praise,
We're pouring them back in." - Rumi

"Think of a swallow in a cage,
that cage hung in a forest,
and all around songbirds
singing sweet wild
hymns of freedom.
That bird is me, and that
bird is ready to fly." - Rumi

* The external world is not at all how it seems
* Neither are you.
* Beneath the convincing separateness of things is a vast, indescribable, loving Unity.
* That Unity is your true identity.

Peace

Please forgive me if the only thing I can "Imagine" (thank you John Lennon) is the World As One.

so what you are saying kicking is that even with the existance of God people still act the way they will act. The concept of God does exist in our time and yet it doesn't seem to actually be changing behaviors. The atheist exist strictly only because there is a belief in God. Again I repeat all this is happening with the concept of God so why is it such a stretch of the imagination to think about a world without God?

Again I must say that I am only asking you all to think of a world without God and I am not attacking anyone who believes in God or Gods. I often wonder what it would be like to be in a world where man has not assigned power over to an all powerful being which noone knows exist? Would we still assign that authority to someone else or something else?

latinojazz....no one is perfect...except Jesus. People will disappoint you where ever you go.

I asked a question earlier....where does everyone get their beliefs? I get mine from Gods word, the bible.

Pur, I wanted to say that I like how you are handling the questions and answers. :) I believe ALL mankind is in search of truth and the meaning of life. Be like a child...ask many questions.:)

That´s the point. The important thing.I believe in God, I believe in Jesus, but I don´t care others believe. To try to be a Better Man it´s the more difficult thing for me everyday.
