God

Okay. I think some of you or maybe even all of you are misunderstanding what I'm asking. I am only asking you to think of what you think the world be like if no one ever heard of a God or Gods? I am not asking you to defend you faith. I only want you to think about the question I have posed to you. And I was trying to elicit a dicussion from there but please know that I am not asking you about your existing faith. PL

P.S. Remember I am in know way slamming anyones faith.

Of course, we realize your question and that you're not slamming anyone's faith ... however, each individual can only answer in their own context. How can I say what people would do? Because I have an innate sense of the Unity between Human Beings and that Power/Light some refer to as God, it is impossible for me to "imagine" anything else ...
If the only reason Human Beings were created is to realize God, what else is there to do? There would not be Human Beings if God did not exist. We are a part of Him, the Soul is a Ray of Light eminating from His Light/Sun.
Not all people have an awareness of the Power that is God; hence the terrible things that are happening in the world. People believe in a religion, a path, a form. God has no religion, no path, no form. Ever wonder what the "dark matter" (which is an ironic name but not accurate methinks - "mystery matter" would be a more valid name) that was recently discovered in the Universe is? That "thing" or power that is holding the entire universe together ... that power that cannot be captured or contained within any concept; That perhaps hints at the Beyond that few want to explore.
Purple, you're attempting to elicit a response that suits your question; however, people can only relate to that within their own knowledge. It is like saying "if one cannot taste the flavor of an orange because we're unaware of that taste, does the orange still have a flavor"? Or perhaps more notably, "if a tree falls in the forest when no one is there does it make a sound?" lol :) Such is the paradigm of existence.
In seeking a response to your question, you are seemingly expecting us to answer in the context you created; it can't be done. You yourself will need to answer your own question in order for it to suit your own inquiry. Again, such is the paradigm.
A possible place to explore is the film "What the Bleep Do We Know!?" which mixes belief in a higher Power and quantum physics. I highly recommend it to anyone curious about life.
How far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go? ......
Peace

I think kicking what you say is very true that people can answer in only in their own context. I think maybe if I had asked the question without a religious context that maybe it would have been a little more appealing to people but because I asked what a world without God or Gods would be like I actually put eveyones defense alarms on the ready. Even though I have stated that that is not my intent whatsoever. It is strictly an exercise in expanding thought and that is all.

I that always exists gods, religions and rituals before the actual unique God concept.

I will try imagine your hypothesys.A world without God or gods beliefs?

Well, it will be hardly worse than the actual. And you say without gods, not without laws...

No, I don´t assume without laws, I´m only asking me your question and I thought that if the Hypo was without gods and laws we´ll got a real problem, but, perhaps, while the laws exists the order and the peace could be

I understand Latinojazz. But yes this is the type of thinking I am looking for. Free thinking. uninhibited by our reality now.

I also think alot of people would automatically assume that without God there would be no rules but I think it is something to consider.

I would assume with out law too. Why? It seems where ever I read in the bible where people get away from God, they get away from His laws. I think of Sodom and Gamorrah, the Isrealis when they where waiting for Moses to come down from the mountain, etc...

Look at the world today. The further the world seems to get away from God and His word, the worse it seems to get. Just my observation.

You're absolutely right Jules, the world is worse now than in the Sodom and Gomorrah time. :( We look to be closer of God, but it's not the case, unfortunately. In fact, the only place where we can say that a lot of people come to God is in East Asia :)

Jules the time you are speaking of is when the idea of God did exist.

I know. God has always existed. You asked us to try and answer it hypothetically, so I did.
God has not gone anywhere. Whenever I feel like God is far away from me, it is I who has moved, not God.

Pur, I was discussing this thread(actually YOUR question) with an accuantance at a meeting tonight. My husband and I are Gideons.
When I asked the gentleman how he would have answered your question, he answered, that God made the earth. Without God we would not have the earth, the universe, heaven, or mankind. Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created heaven and earth.", John 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without was not anything made that was made." Then the making of mankind: Genesis 1:26-27

I hope my answer helps you in some way in what you are searching for.

but at the same time it is not answering the question because he is refusing to think of it. I think that is a great perspective on life and existance as a Christian but it has nothing to do with my question. The Question is to think of what the world will be like with out the Concept of God. That's it. And it seems to be just so demanding it may very well be better to drop the whole idea. Maybe we should move on to another non subject.

It´s very difficult to talk about religion. You can tell to a scientists group that you have discovered a proof that the world is a Cube and many of them will be interested in debate the theory of whatever nonsense of crazy idea.

But if you said to the same group: God don´t exists, Free thinking, we are slaves of our reality and culture!!!, sure than more than one will be shock, offended and will want to break your nose.

The moderator´s ideas are the same basics of the ultras or islam killers, but they didn´t realize of that.

The freethinking is an utopia yet.

Another issue:
The men laws have been written by the human race because the God laws are not enough and don´t works to stop the killing, kidnapping, racism and violence.

And why the God laws don´t work?Because even the most sadic criminal believe in his personal Jesus, and many of them kill in the name of god.

Freethinking...the failed subject

In Buddhism there is no "god" or such supreme being. Our karma (our actions through thoughts, speech and deed) determine how we view and live this life and on into the next.

I have been a Buddhist for only 22 years of my 39 years on this planet.......but always still learning!

Peace!

trust me I am not trying to agitate anyone around here that's for sure. That is one thing that has always been the easiest to do. I am trying my hand at conversing with folks but it doesn't seem to generate much. Peace

I think there are many people with this belief (God), and others without it. The world has not improved with this belief, nor will it change with out it.
I think it'd be more helpful for people to be concerned with developing their humanity to the fullest.

At a personal level not having this belief (although at some point in my life I've been influenced by it-family and friends believers) I find that there are less contradictions in my life. Less struggle and absolutely no guilt about my human condition. In my personal life I am not concerned with love/hate, good/bad, or duality in general. My actions/intentions speak for themselves.
