Re: Happy Easter

Happy Easter to everyone on this site and to Steven Seagal and his family too.
Lots of fruity/chocolate Easter eggs and happy little bunnies to everyone.
Here in Malaysia we just had a Muslim holiday yesterday, no good Friday holiday here but lots of Easter cheers to all who celebrate Easter in Malaysia is heard on the media.
If there are any more holidays here to cover all the multi racial religions there would be no work done in this happy sunny country.

Love and Best Wishes to everyone!

I hope you all have a good time. I am looking forward to my chocolate but I wish I could make you a fruit egg Heather, I would get strawberries and mangos and pinapple and pears and grapes, cherries and a whole host of other fruit chop them up and freeze them in an egg shape. Something to keep you cool over there.

I celebrate Easter and Christmas and New Year twice every year. Having been born into the Ukrainian Orthodox religion which follows the old Julian calendar, everything happens about 2-3 weeks after the normal calendar.
In the Ukraine we paint eggs, bake special cakes called "paska" a yeast based dough, go on Lenten behoviours avoiding things we like to do in normal times such as dancing, raucous behaviours and forgoing eating meat. then on Easter Saturday night we go to church around 10 pm and the Easter mass is celebrated by Gregorian chanting between the priest and the congregation, I am always in the choir.
At around 3 a.m. everyone takes a basket of specially prepared foods to break the Lenten fast, bits of sausage, bacon, bread, paska cake, coloured eggs, coloured with natural vegetable dyes, these are blessed by the priest as we go around the church singing "Christ has risen" then the mass is ended and everyone goes around kissing one another, greeting each other with " Christ has risen" and the other person you are kissing on the cheek responds "He has risen indeed!'
this is the reason I am flying to Melbourne from Perth on 23rd April , to visit my aging mother aged 89 who upholds this traditional Easter culture every year and I go there to participate with her.
this year the Orthodox Easter falls on Sunday 27th April.
Love and best wishes,
Halkush
