Heath Ledger 1979-2008

Hard To Kill
What a sad day it's been. I've been a fan of Heath Ledger as an actor for many years, since I went to see his film Two Hands at the movies. It was interesting to see his career evolve over the years, going from fluff like 10 Things I Hate About You to Brokeback Mountain, which is one of the best films I've seen in years. His performance in that movie was excellent and showed that he was capable of being a fine character actor. I've been looking forward to seeing his work as the Joker in The Dark Knight as well. My thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues who are all obviously devastated by this sad news.

It's especially sad seeing he was just hitting his prime as an actor, taking the Johnny Depp route of not trading on his looks and seeking out roles that would challenge him.

As sad as his death is, I am very much looking forward to seeing his take on the Joker in The Dark Knight. The glimpses you see if him in the trailer are electrifying and Michael Caine said in an interview a while back that his work is outstanding on the movie.

It was reported on the news tonight that the Terry Gilliam film he was starring in has been indefinitely postponed due to Heath's passing. Apparently all that was left to film was green screen studio stuff, but without Heath there to finish his work the film has to be shelved.

I wonder how that memorial service went for Heath today...some of his hollywood friends were putting in it on which is fantastic ..no one has really gotten to talk to his ex
though just imagine how big his funeral is going to be when they get him back to Perth boy ...i saw 'The Patroit' last night again and couldnt help but shed an tear he was excellent in that movie...wish his family well now and in the future and knowing that they will have him for ever in there hearts ..if some one said to them you will get over this there is no such thing as get over it..

I watched the movie I'm Not There today which featured Heath in one of his last performances. It's not a film for everyone...it's hard to describe, but it's about Bob Dylan (who isn't named) with actors playing the different aspects of his life as he's changed over the years. Heath plays 'Robbie', a womanising actor who plays Dylan in a movie (well, more accurately, he plays folk singer 'Jack') whose disintegrating relationship with his wife mirrors that of Dylan and Sarah Lownds. It's an excellent performance by Ledger, one of many great performances in the film. Cate Blanchett steals the film as 'Jude', based on Dylan in the mid 1960s when he went electric and had the media and fans closing in on him.

The film will probably leave many people scratching their heads but if you're a fan of Bob Dylan you'll appreciate it.

The Dark Knight should be coming out. Heath had completed all of his work on the film, according to reports I've read at various sites. Apparently the Joker was to appear in the third film but this will obviously be changed, unless they recast the role.

Mystery Mom

Queen of the Mist
this is the OFF TOPIC thread

Off Topic Here you can discuss anything that is not Steven Seagal related. Post movie reviews, jokes, news stories, interesting facts and more...

This comment is here because broeck made a comment about the reason for Heath Ledger being a subject for a thread on this forum and the validity of the subject. I was responding to that comment which seems to have disappeared.
Myst

Yeah I remember a similar comment from someone in the Van Damme thread who said we should only be talking about Seagal. You have to wonder if people know what the words 'Off Topic' mean...

This is beyond disgraceful.....

'Hate group' church to picket Ledger memorial

An evangelical anti-gay US church plans to picket any memorials to Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died this week, because of his portrayal of a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain.

It is understood a service will be held in LA this coming weekend, before the Perth-born actor is laid to rest in Australia.

Ledger, 28, was found dead in his New York apartment on Wednesday morning. Prescription medications were found in the residence, but an initial autopsy proved inconclusive.

The actor's family insist his death was "accidental."

Shirley Phelps, of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, has told Sydney radio station 2Day FM that they will also picket any attempt to honour Ledger, 28, at next month's Academy Awards ceremony.

"I'm going to stand outside of any public memorial service that he has here," Ms Phelps said.

"And then the other place I'm going to picket him is when they prop him up to worship his dead, rotting carcass further at the Oscars. I'll be right outside by the red carpet."

Ledger won widespread acclaim for his sensitive portrayal of a repressed homosexual cowboy role in the Oscar-winning film Brokeback Mountain.

He had also starred in The Patriot, A Knight's Tale, Two Hands and Ned Kelly.

The Westboro Baptist Church is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Centre in the United States.

It regularly pickets the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq, claiming the war is God's punishment for tolerating gays.

Can't they find something better to do with their time than to add more upset to the mourning of a lovely guy and an ace actor? All I can say is the world has too many crazy people in it!
