Homage to Steven Seagal

"I think there's a greater realism to Steven Seagal", the Black Belt magazine article statement that Jeff Speakman made and commented on. To me, it's the most honorable verbal homage and compliment paid to Steven Seagal by another martial artist to date. All other martial arts actors have either ridiculed Steven Seagal or have not yet positively acknowledged Steven Seagal's artwork on film nor his presence in their lives.

Thank you, Don. It's always good
to hear one Martial Artist compliment
another Martial Artist. Because of the
'way' that Martial Arts are taught you
would think that this would be common-place!
But, sadly, it's not always.
God bless,
Mama san

After listening to the radio talk show titled "Monsters WTKS - Jeff Speakman" on YouTube.com website it makes me wonder, "Does Jeff Speakman really think of Steven Seagal this way in reality?" I always thought Speakman had more respect and acknowledgement for Seagal's presence in the martial arts and as a human being?

Many people have a personal experience with Seagal than any of us would as fans, but as a fan, don't be too concerned about what others say. Just enjoy his films for yourself.

Good reminder bens. It'll be interesting though to see and hear how Seagal will reply and react on live tv interviews to all of these insulting comments made by other martial artists and ufc fighters that hate Seagal.

I have the Black Belt magazine at home. It is from 1991 after "Out for justice" came out.

Speakman said: I happen to like Steven Seagal because he introduced hand techniques on film. Before that it was all feet....

I think there´s a greater realism in what Seagal does.

The radio interview of Speakman was 15 years later and by that period Seagal was 40 pounds heavier...

Seagal1969,
thanks for quoting the article on Speakman concerning Seagal's artistic contributions to film. I still don't comprehend why JS goes onto a past recent radio/tv broadcasted show and verbally ridicules Sensei Steven Seagal after verbally complimenting SSS years ago in that BB magazine interview of Jeff's? Got's to be something more underlying pertaining to JS's negative comments of Seagal????

Wasn't JS's teachers a friend of Steven's? He said that on the Arsenio Hall show. "He was the big Hawaiian guy that came down and gave me big hug" Steven said. Since then the teacher has passed away but I'm sure he wouldn't be happy that JS is talking bad about his friend Steven.

It's news to me if Seagal had a friend that was Speakman's martial arts instructor?

What is so hard to understand?
There´s no action star ever whose weight increased so much like Seagal.

Though I´m a huge Seagal fan I understand why the big studios don´t want to work with him again.

Look how Bronson looked-even in his 60´s........-a body like iron.

Speakman´s instructor was the legendary Ed Parker. Parker invented Kenpo Karate and was even Elvis´s bodyguard.

Everybody in the Martial arts community knew who ed parker was and Seagal is no exception....

Well, first JS began speaking kind words concerning SS's merits, but now Jeff speaks harshly of SS's appearance. That's what I find hard to understand why others degrade others when they retain water and fat content in their physical appearances. What's it gonna help to joke about others' body weight and how they look on the outside?
