I wanted to use as much of Steven's music in the movie as possible. He was recording the album during the prep of the movie so I fell in love with a couple of the songs and they really fit the movie and he was cool enough to let us use them. The other groups are friends of mine and Stanley Clarke pulled some favors to get some additional stuff. As far as I know yes the commercials were for JP television. Sony JP spent a considerable amount on the advertising for the film across the board. They were fantastic to be honest. They did a press junket and did 6-10 magazine and tv interviews as well as give aways(The Boxer shorts were my favorite) and posters all over Tokyo. You couldnt get away from it. The result was a very respectable 3-4 week box office run with a healty gross for ninety screens(thats alot for Japan) country wide for the film during the holiday season of 2k5.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear the movie did well in Japan. It must feel good to see your movie get a large promotion.

Sony JP were behind the picture from the getgo. They put up money, product placement and secured some of the A list japanese talent. It was a pleasure to work with them and I will hopefully work with them again soon... peace mink

Good movie, but I noticed some similar things that may get a confront between "Into The Sun" and "Out For Justice". Steven is always a big presence as a CIA ex-agent and policeman, he always has to find a criminal who's in a battle with the kind of Mafia he belongs to (Kuroda against Yakuza, Richie against Mafia), everything happens always someplace Steven's character grew up in (Travis grew up in Japan, Gino in Brooklyn). Anyway, Into The Sun is a good movie, as I just said, but OFJ kicks his ass too f****ng hard..
In Into The Sun I also appreciated "Don't You Cry" during the end titles, and the Tokyo beautiful locations.

I rewatched Into The Sun. This must be the only dtv movie that comes the closest to a theatrical movie (maybe also Pistol Whipped). Too bad, that sometimes the movie is a little slow and lacks some action. Otherwise it could have been one of his best movies. Now it's a very decent Seagal movie. Certainly in the top 5 best Seagal dtv movies.

I wanted to do an interview with director mink, but I just noticed that he answered a lot of questions in this thread. I forgot that he joined us in 2006. That was great!

By the way, there seems to be a making of for Into The Sun. It's 45 minutes long and seems to be on the Japanese dvd. I there anyway we can watch that? Does someone here has the Japanese dvd maybe and can post it online??

The movie is well done with great locations, but just way too slow in my opinion. Too much talking and not enough action except of the beginning and the end.
It reminds me a lot of "Attrition" in many ways, although that one had a slightly better pacing.

Quite like Into the Sun but agree with Martin it's a slow haul in the middle.

Saw a behind-the-scenes years ago where Seagal uses his Above the Law arm-break move on a thug but this definitely isn't in the movie.

Pistol Whipped is good but looks cheap in comparison.
