John Leguizamo talks Seagal

SweetChinMusic

big gulps huh
John Leguizamo is getting brutally honest about his Hollywood encounters, poking fun at stars like Patrick Swayze and Steven Seagal in his new book "Pimps, Hos, Players, Haters & All The Rest Of My Hollywood Friends." The star isn't expecting Christmas cards from the two ageing action men after shaming them for their serious nature on film sets.

Of Seagal, Leguizamo recalls, "I did a movie with him before and he was friendly... then I go and do Executive Decision with him and I'm supposed to be his right-hand man in the flick. We do our first rehearsal and he comes in and... he's like, 'OK, I'm the commander...' He charges at me... knocks me against the wall and knocks all the wind out of me. I wanted to say, 'You run like a fat girl.' It wasn't even in the script.

"He had to die early in the movie and it wasn't his movie and he hated me. He didn't wanna come out of his trailer the day he was supposed to die... I was there very early because I wanted to see that scene. It was 6am, he was supposed to die... and we shot his death at 8 p.m."

That's pretty funny. Leguizamo better watch his back though, he might get an ass-whooping from Seagal.

I appreciate John Leguizamo's candid honesty of Steven Seagal's behavior, if it's true ?
I am certain that Steven Seagal has trained in "Iron Shirt" Kung Fu and developed thick skin for just such an occasion to John Leguizamo's in person reflection
Bank On It John Leguizamo !
LOL

Well, it is true that it took some coaxing to get Steven out of his trailer to shoot the death scene. It was the first time he'd ever been "defeated", so to speak...

I love you, Heather, you really know how to make my day! :D :D :D

I've had a sudden influx of work, time-consuming and, this last job I've just finished, frustrating from the point of view of having to work with someone who's very picky and who gets cranky and sarcastic when things go wrong - and boy, did things go wrong on this job (bad bad bad to prepare an ad for a paper and get all - ALL - the contact information wrong).

I feel like I've been run over by a truck... - or thrown out of an airplane (ahem).

If I had a trailer to hide in, I would have hidden in it and not come out for any reason. Not even if there were a tornado coming. Or a witch. Or a lion. Or a tiger. Or a bear. Oh, my.

It's just such a shame that a decade later and Seagal is the one that runs like 'an fat girl...'.

Iam glad others have thought that way too i mean he was my oppinion the main actor and to be bopped off was out of the question..

I think the very fact that he was the main actor and that he was killed off was the whole point. After all when people first saw the film, expecting it to be a Steven Seagal action film and then he is killed off after 20 minutes, don't you think that was a good twist?

This is not an uncommon film device remember. Alfred Hitchcock most famously used it in Psycho (1960), where Janet Leigh, arguably the biggest star at the time is killed off early in the film by Mrs Bates.

I know we as Seagal fans find it hard to take this film, but I just see it as something new that Seagal tried. In fact I think that maybe if he had taken more supporting roles in a variety of films, instead of insisting on always being the main star, then his career might be in a better state now.

Sorry but it was not a Seagal film.
It was never supposed to be a Seagal film.
It was a Kurt Russel film start to finnish.
Seagal's name didn't appear on the jacket.
His name wasn't in the start-up credits. His
name only appeared at the end of the film
and even then he was second banana.
God bless,

Well pehaps it was a Kurt Russell film from start to finish, however by having Seagal involved, it gave any prospective audience an idea of what to expect. When Seagal was killed, these expectations were blown away. Seagal's name was intended to have first billing but after Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) didn't do as well as predicted, Kurt Russell was given first billing. Also if you look at the film's poster and DVD case you will see a space opposite Kurt Russell's face. This was intended for Seagal's face and indeed on posters released in Europe for example his face remains.

I think it is something that Seagal should consider. After all it seems these days that people want more realistic action heroes and so Seagal's brand of seeming invincibility is looking a bit old hat now, and has done for some time. I also think that as Seagal gets older and has his music career grows he may not be able to dedicate quality time to making films as he once did. With his last few DTV efforts it seems like this is already the case. I think taking supporting and cameo roles in big budget films would be a way of continuing his career in a more positive way. As the parts would be smaller he could put all his effort into them and make an impact on mainstream audiences again. This would help if he did make the occasional feature length film again. Several former action stars have made cameo roles and supporting appearances where their characters have died and have gained wide acclaim and praise. For example John Wayne in The Cowboys (1972) and Sean Connery in Highlander (1986)

marky96,

i like your idea for Steven Seagal's future cameo roles
I can just see Steven Seagal beefing up a movie and drawing loads of movie-goers to the big screen down the road, if he ever got an opportunity such as your suggestion
