* "Professor Advances to 7th Degree Black Belt in Aikido"

Robert Frager, professor of Psychology at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, CA has advanced to the status of 7th dan -- or 7th degree black belt -- in Aikido. Dr. Frager was awarded the honor at the International Headquarters of Aikido in Japan. The 7th degree black belt is the highest rank known to be awarded to a westerner, and Dr. Frager joins film star Steven Seagal in attaining this rank, which is rarely given to westerners.

Before founding the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (ITP), Frager taught psychology and religious studies for seven years at University of California Berkeley and University of California Santa Cruz. He co-authored Personality and Personal Growth (the 6th edition has just been released), a widely used textbook of personality theory, and he is the author of numerous other books including Heart, Self and Soul: The Sufi Psychology of Growth, Balance, and Wholeness, an introduction to Sufi Psychology. Frager is co-authoring a book on Aikido sword practices, a study of how the Miyamoto Musashi's well-known Book of Five Rings, a classic samurai text, relates to attitudes and decisions in business and personal life.

That was quite interesting, Pur--thank you. I see, among his many other accomplishments, that he is co-authoring a book on Aikido sword practices. Wouldn't it be interesting to see him and Steven engage in a little sword play? :D I didn't see mention of his age anywhere. Wonder how old he is. Hard to tell from his picture.

I note that this announcement was issued as a press release from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology--which Robert Frager founded in 1975. Here's the address to that website for those who are interested. http://www.itp.edu/
