NEW SEAGAL FILM-A GOOD MAN

Okay. Let's get on topic or the thread will be closed.

Fact is, Seagal isn't in EX 3 and will be in AGM. We have to deal with this because there is nothing we can do about it.

Peace

I think it is fair that some people are disappointed about it, yet it doesn't do us any good by sitting here and argue about it. We all knew it had a slim chance of happening.

On another note, I'm getting pretty sick and tired of people arguing instead of having an constructive grown up discussion. Thats why I'm not around so much at the moment..

"A Good Man" Awwwww hell no!!! Sounds way too generic and lazy. The movie needs a title change. It needs to sound badass and cool.

At least I like the plot of A Good Man. It's simple and it fits for a Seagal film. The plot of Force of Execution doens't fit Steven Seagal in my opinion...I just want a simple straight revenge plot, although we have seen that a million times.

By the way, the movie is still not on the Voltage site. But that doesn't surprise me, because they even didn't put the FOE trailer on the site. The trailer has been out for a month. Great work Voltage!

Voltage is a really sub-par DTV company.
The problem is there are not too many DTV companies that consistently make films nowadays. Nu Image dont do as much these days because they're sister company Millennium are focusing on their theatrical release.
Stage 6 dont do much now. They were marginally better than Voltage, but not by much.

Because it seems to suit both parties, I dont think we'll see Seagal branching away from voltage too often. Maybe he's on a multi pic deal at the moment, who knows. Seags can do minimal work, but still have plenty of say on what happens in the film. They have directors who can come in and shoot quickly and are able to shoot around Seagal.

It is getting boring seeing Waxman's name attached to everything though, and all the films are shot way too quickly.

This one sounds pretty poor. FOE looks pretty decent from the trailer, but it could be deceptive trailer. It's evident Seagal will kind of take a back seat a lot of times in the picture though, but that's becoming normal in DTV land now.

It would be nice just for once though, not to see volshit and Waxman attached to a new Seagal project. All the films are blending into one.

Great writing superstorm :) And I agree, it would be nice if Seagal at least once changed director and studio :)

The thing is Voltage are not really a DTV company as they do both bigger films and DTV films

the bigger films like Hurt Locker,Killer Joe,Company You Keep ETC are films that Voltage put money in themshelves and are backed for Nicholas Chartier

The other DTV films by Snipes,Seagal,Lungren etc are usually made by said actors and bought by voltage(Cheaply) to sell them at festivals to people like Anchor Bay/Sony

Its easy money for Voltage and they dont really care about the product

I think Keoni Waxman is getting a lot of unfair criticism.

Movies are simply products, the producers really don't care about making good movies, they care about making movies that sell.

The movies at this budget range (DTV stuff with budgets under $5M) are sold based on the premise and the names on the cover. Seagal, Lundgren, Austin etc. can still sell a low budget action movie, that's why they get to make these movies.
However when you are making a movie in the $1M-$3M range as a lot of these movies are, the lion's share of the budget goes to the stars salaries and producer's fees etc. basically above the line expenses. What's left isn't always a lot of money, which means shorter shooting schedules, smaller scale, not as much action etc.

And the directos who work on these movies are usually "director-for-hire" guys, meaning that they just get hired to direct these productions based on their track record, meaning they know how to deliver a picture on time and on budget.
The producers really have all the say in the production, they just hire a director and say to him something like "it's a three week schedule, you got Seagal for two weeks, but he only works for 4 hours a day, you get this other name for only 5 days, these are your locations and this is your script, now go and make us a movie".
There really isn't much for a director to do there than to try and deliver the best movie they can with the resources they have.

It's not uncommon for a DTV director to not be involved in the editing process either, these DTV producers and production companies have been known to edit these movies to shreds, or schedule re-shoots to change storylines to accomodate the wishes of the buyers etc.

Keoni Waxman seems like a good and honest guy to me, and I think it's a bit unfair to blame him for the quality inconsistensies in these movies, when in fact often it's due to combination of low budget, short shooting schedules, stars that are not on set a lot (rumours of Seagal only working 4 hours a day), and producers saving money and rushing these movies to buyers as fast as they can.

And it's clear that Steven does not have one ounce of passion for moviemaking, hasn't since the late 90's. It's just his job, it pays the bills.

I have no problem with Waxman personally, and he sounds like a knowledgeable guy. Given a bit more freedom he could do something. My main problem is that he's basically a gun for hire who has the ability, first and foremost, to work around the limitations put upon a director by Seagal himself.
The annoying part of having Waxman attached, is in part because it comes with Voltage too. It also just gets very tiresome stylistically too. You know what you're going to get.

It would be nice for SS to breakaway and do something a bit different. If he was to work with someone like Reine again it would be fantastic, though at this point unlikely as Reine is stuck doing DTV sequels.

The only thing is we are currently only getting 1 movie per year now. Ok the quality of Maximum Conviction was better than the likes of Out Of Reach, etc, but it was still not good.

There have been many great low budget movies made that are awesome. In my opinion if the effort is put in we still have the possibility to see an awesome Seagal movie, but the likely-hood is very low unfortunately. :( Would love to see him putting a lot of energy into getting a decent storyline, crew and cast and have one last hurah.

Writing Mr Tarantino is a good idea. Is there interest from others? I could write a draft, but I can't made any promises. My time is very rare at the moment (see my posting amount), but I will appreciate every additional idea.

Secondary if we have agreed on the finished project, who shall send Mr Tarantino our proposal? The admins? Or someone voluntarily. I can send it if the majority votes me.

What is this fascination about Tarantino?

I'll never understand why people make so much out of so little. All the guy does is STEAL dialogue, costumes, names and music from other (better) movies, and the sheep make excuses like "It's a homage" or "Yes, but it's the way he put's them together"

He's never done anything remotely interesting in his career, but I guess he just caters for people who prefer 'greatest hits' albums (plus his knowledge of exploitation movies is basic at best) And quite frankly, I'm sick to death of buying completely unrelated movies with his moronic name plastered all over them (just because the lantern-jawed hack, has a NEW favourite film this week)

So if you're gonna send any proposal to Tarantino....how about this one:

Trying paying tribute to your OWN imagination, and stop riding/stealing/stinking-up the reputations of better directors, that knew how to make REAL low-budget movies (and didn't require $60m to do so)
