Plot:
After an illustrious special ops career ends in disaster, Alexander (Seagal) goes off the grid and attempts to lead a quiet life as a handyman at an apartment complex. But when one of his tenants and her family fall under the thumb of a Russian gangster, Alexander is dragged into an all-out war between rival Chinese and Russian gangs, forcing him to not only defend the family, but bringing him face to face with an old foe, and giving him one more chance to reconcile his past.
Hmmm........a handyman at an apartment complex?
Even though in recent years we've come to expect the same ol' plot -- retired ex-something-or-other agent forced to come out of retirement to defend
fill in the blank -- a handyman at an apartment complex running into these kinds of gangs is a bit of a stretch. LOL Even for some of us long-time fans.
Don't get me wrong! I honestly don't mind that basic plot line, as I mentioned in one of my first few posts. It's why I've followed Seagal for so many years: Good guy runs into trouble at the beginning, but ALWAYS kicks the bad guy's ass in the end. No pun intended.
As always, though, I will go into this with an open mind and hoping, as always, that THIS will be the movie we've been waiting for: One that is reminiscent in quality to his earlier movies for us long-time fans, one that will bring him a new generation of action fans, and one that hopefully will spark an interest in some executive producers wanting to invest a little more money in his next movie.
But, whatever I think of this movie after actually watching it -- and not by reading some so-called "professional critics" at other sites or judging it ahead of time by the trailer -- I will, as always, at the very least, be glad he's still making movies.
Thanks for the plot synopsis, Mason!
