NEW SEAGAL FILM-A GOOD MAN

Just an FYI, I'm in the U.S. and couldn't watch either of the two trailers in Lee's post above.

The one that we all seem to be able to watch is also at Seagal's Facebook page. I'm not a Facebook member, but I was still able to see the videos.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Steven-Seagal-news/128114333926558
or here:

Does that mean that's the official trailer?
I have no idea how these things work, just what I've picked up around here.

Thanks to Lee and Dante for all their efforts. Hope this works!

I´m sorry but I´m not goingt to watch this movie. The movie looks cheap. I hate Romanian places and their actors as well.

The official "Expendables 3" trailer is now online. It looked much better than "A Good Man" despite it was filmed in Romania.

If I´m in Seagal mood, I ´ll watch his first 5 movies. I love them all. That is Seagal and not the Seagal in 2014.

By the way, Seagal is tomorrow in Germany. He will be 50 km from my hometown. He will be at the opening of Planet Hollywood in Duisburg.

It's probably budgeted at $5-$6m?

The official "Expendables 3" trailer is now online. It looked much better than "A Good Man" despite it was filmed in Romania.

It's 'advertising' budget is probably 3 or 4 times higher than the entire budget for A GOOD MAN (you are aware of that, I hope?) So it can obviously have more elaborate action sequences, etc.

I hate Romanian places and their actors as well.

So by that rationale, you *should* hate EXPENDABLES 3 then?

So you visited a topic entitled 'NEW SEAGAL FILM - A GOOD MAN' why exactly?

By the way, Seagal is tomorrow in Germany. He will be 50 km from my hometown. He will be at the opening of Planet Hollywood in Duisburg.

That's nice to know, but unless Germany are at the forefront of 'Time-Travel-Technology', I wouldn't think that anything Seagal does (in 2014) would interest you?

I'm not sure why you think the film looks cheap? The trailer shows a wide variety of locations, has explosions, helicopters, gunplay and (most importantly) fights. If this looks cheap to you, please advise me of any 'really expensive looking' movies that seagal has made in the last 10 years. In my opinion, A GOOD MAN looks more elaborate and spacious than any of his more recent efforts. I enjoyed MAXIMUM CONVICTION, but it essentially took place in an abandoned prison (and a bar) throughout it's 98 minute running time. Ironically (apart from the top flight supporting cast) UNDER SIEGE (probably Seagal's most popular movie) is set in the one location throughout, and looks extremely cheap in hindsight (despite the fact that it wasn't)

I'm all for a difference of opinion (and love a good debate) but your contradictory outlook (given your stance on "2014 Seagal") lends little weight to your comments (as you seem prejudiced from the outset) and makes me wonder why you visited *THIS* topic in particular (or at all?)

People around here would do well to remember that Seagal is (primarily) making low-budget non-theatrical movies. Comparing such movies to Hollywood blockbusters (with ten times the budget/resources) is a fruitless task, and likely not worth anyone's time (especially your own) or even the bandwidth required to physically type it out.

I pretty much enjoy most of Seagal's DTV movies (some more than his theatrical releases) and as long as the plot isn't too convoluted, the doubles/dubbing aren't overly intrusive, and the 'Sensei' is kicking ass...Then I couldn't care less about the budget or location (nor the date, his weight or the supporting cast) I think he's on a pretty solid run of good, well-made movies of recent...But that's just my opinion.....I'd like to hear *your* opinion, but sadly you've pretty much stifled it from the get-go?

EVERYONE READ.

I completely understand where everyones coming from about the movie being filmed in romania.

BUT

Why not look at it this way? How many movies has seagal made in romania? Why dont be judge the movie off every movie hes made there? Maybe it will be his best film he ever made in romania? Look at it that way.

I know most of the times movies arnt the best even seagal movies but base it off the movies hes made there & well compare it to the other movies :) I think that will make it a good movie :)

Although I can agree with your arguments (every movie has to be judged on its self) we also take into account this:
- Seagal mainly works with the same crew and company.
- Every movie so fa has had the same look and feel production wise

If you look at something like The Expendables (also filmed in Eastern Europe) it has a way better production value then Seagals movie.

To be honest, I've pretty much given up on Seagals movies. Perhaps he should just stick to singing and the Lawman series (which I find quite enjouyable) and return to his martial arts roots (and give international seminars).

Or he should give up his enormous ego (which he claims he doesn't have) and just do a project like The Expendables. I mean, Machete was a good step for him and could have boosted his movie career. He failed to grab the opportunity given by Danny Trejo.

Peace

The 2nd trailer is even better! I know Seagal is working with the same crew everytime, but this time the locations make it feel like a different movie. Waxman and Seagal have always worked in Vancouver. For me it's refreshing to see Romania again. I don't care where it's shot. A Good Man seems to have a lot of different action and a good production value. I have the feeling this one will be one of Seagal's best dtv's...;)

Thats one of the best posts I have ever read on this forum and its what I have been saying for years....You cant compare this film to US,OFJ etc

You have to take it for what it is which is a 7M STV action film shot in 23 days

With that in mind i think this looks a pretty good film and certainly the best film Seagals made in Romania

Also about enjoying some STV films better than his Big Budget days I have never liked either FDB or TP and much prefer BOTB,MC,PW,ADM which are more fun IMO

The only thing about the trailer that bugged me was the Plane which looked like it was maybe a Model(Like Submerged) but im not sure as Waxman has never used it before

The shots with the helicopters, plane (and the missles) look ok to me, but (given the budget) I wouldn't be surprised if it was stock footage from something else? some of the 'night vision' bomb shots look like news footage?
Looking at both trailers, it's plain to see that the movie changes location early on anyhow (with Seagal posing as a handyman) then teaming up with the younger fighter (who's sister, I think has been either killed or forced into prostitution?) by the Chinese/Japanese mob boss (who probably has something to do with the opening raid)
So I'm guessing that whilst Seagal and the other guy take out his minions....Seagal will get the drop on the mob boss in a sword fight?
That's what the trailers say to me?

Yes I agree it looks like a simple plot(looking at the trailer) which is good as Seagals Romania based films like BTRH,SM,FOF have had plots that were to complicated and messy

Well, at least it looks like it should be better than Maximum Conviction, which I thought was one of Seagal's all time worst (Can you say BORING!).

To be honest, the last good movie Seagal came out with IMO was Machete, and that wasn't even a Seagal movie.

Before that the last honestly good movie was Urban Justice.

All of the movies in between UJ and now are a big blur to me. The one where he played an alcoholic was decent, I forgot the title. Other than that they range from "bad" to just "meh".

Trailer is action packed, but it seems like Seagal will have the same amount of screentime as in Force Of Execution, which while better than Maximum Conviction, was overly convoluted and just plain weird, like the scene where Danny Trejo starts using some Voodoo magic or something.
There was no character to root for, it started with Seagal's character, who was not one bit likeable, then they introduced Bren Foster's character, and then Danny Trejo came along. It was just very confusing.

I have a feeling that A Good Man will suffer from the same, since in the trailer it seems like a lot of the action is between other characters than Seagal.

And I know this is beating a dead horse even mentioning his weight. But he just looks so sad in the promo pictures. All bloated and miserable looking. And he just keeps covering himself more and more, now he's got the big goatee, that bandana/doorag, hats, sunglasses, combat gear. In some scenes in FOE you could barely see him. To add insult to injury he was even dubbed in some of those scenes.

So nowadays when you rent a Steven Seagal movie, he's barely even in half of the movie, and when he's on screen he's covered up and dubbed.

I'm sorry to be so negative, but I am just very dissapointed with the stuff he puts out.

I think he doesn't look as 'heavy' in this, than he did in Maximum Conviction? Maybe the 'goatee' helps?
He looks good for a guy of his height (in his 60's) in my opinion.

It's funny, really. Out of this last 122-second trailer, Seagal is in it for less than 30 seconds, with those 1 and 2-second appearances scattered throughout the whole thing. And yet those 30 seconds have sparked some amazing opinions -- both right and wrong. :D

Just kidding!! LOL :D

There are a handful of actors I would watch in a movie regardless of what a trailer looked like and Seagal is definitely one. That doesn't mean I will like the movie, of course. And there have been a few of his in the last few years that I had to walk away from and then go back to. But I will ALWAYS give it a try first before making a final judgment.

And I will ALWAYS try every movie Seagal puts out and be glad that's he's still putting them out there, whether I end up liking the movie or not.

Thanks to Lee again and to Dante for the second trailer!
