Heahter, your boy Webber got overcooked.

And I'd think, coming from Australia, that this Mark Webber would be used to getting fried. :D It's quite a serious injury so no more jokes. (ok? :D)

One more thing... Seeing as BMW Williams (which might not be BMW much longer) had contract issues with Jenson Button, it looks as if Button will either be a free agent starting next season or be forced onto the struggling Williams (bare in mind that Button's current BAR Honda ain't cooking that well either - having earned points for the first time only during the most recent racing event). Therefore, you just might see Webber and Button as teammates. This could be very exciting news for the British as it would look like a dream team. Don't fool yourselves, though. :D

Focus moves to Jerez, less Webber
Who tests where in the run up to Hockenheim?

The Spanish circuit of Jerez will host this week’s multi-team test, but one man notable by his absence will be Williams’ Mark Webber, who has chosen to sit out the session to allow his French Grand Prix injury more time to heal.

Webber sustained burns to his right thigh at Magny-Cours after a problem with overheating in his cockpit. The injury was aggravated at last weekend’s British Grand Prix and the Australian is not expected to return until the opening day of the German meeting on July 22.

“It wouldn’t be sensible to go to Jerez and do three Grand Prix distances and then try and go to Hockenheim to race,” explained Webber. “Unfortunately every time I get into the car, I set the injury back. But, I’ve got two weeks before I’m back in the car now so I’m pretty hopeful it should be a lot, lot better by then. The burn on the hip was quite painful and after the second stint (of the Silverstone race) became quite raw again.”

In Webber’s absence, Williams testing duties will be carried out by Nico Rosberg, fresh from his GP2 win at Silverstone, plus Antonio Pizzonia and Nick Heidfeld. Rosberg will run throughout the team’s three-day programme, commencing Wednesday, with his colleagues due to spend two days each at Jerez.

The focus of Williams’ work will be further development of the FW27’s Mark II bodywork, which proved unexpectedly problematic in France and Britain, failing to live up to the team’s wind-tunnel predictions. There is also speculation that this week could see both Williams and Toyota run their 2006-spec 2.4 litre V8 engines.

__________

Like their BMW-powered rivals, Toyota will be at Jerez from Wednesday to Friday as they continue to search for the race pace that has recently eluded them, despite strong qualifying performances. Test drivers Ricardo Zonta and Olivier Panis will be at the wheel of the TF105 throughout the session.

Improved reliability will be McLaren’s goal after Kimi Raikkonen’s race at Silverstone was again compromised by a Mercedes engine failure and subsequent grid penalty. Raikkonen will test in Spain on Thursday and Friday, with Juan Pablo Montoya running on Wednesday and Thursday and Alexander Wurz on Wednesday and Friday.

Among the other teams expected at Jerez for the three-day session are Sauber, with race drivers Felipe Massa and Jacques Villeneuve, and championship leaders Renault, who are due to field Giancarlo Fisichella alongside testers Franck Montagny and Heikki Kovalainen.

Elsewhere in Europe, Jordan will be testing at the French circuit of Paul Ricard for two days as they continue to hone their revised EJ15B ahead of a possible Hockenheim race debut. Narain Karthikeyan will be at the wheel on Thursday, with team mate Tiago Monteiro taking over on Friday.

There is a chance Jordan will be joined by fellow Bridgestone runners Ferrari. The world champions are also expected on track at their own Fiorano circuit in Italy as they look to close the performance gap to rivals Renault and McLaren.

Note - all schedules are provisional and remain subject to change.

I see that Mark Webber has got sixth positon on the grid for the German Grand Prix..got my fingers crossed he will get an place....Good to see Jenson Button is up there too...I bet Yudansha is going to see it...

You can bet that I've already seen it.

Your Webber did good in quali but consistency is the key in a race and your Webber just lacks the pace. :D (nice rhyme eh) Schummi could've easily placed second if it wasn't for Bridgestone. I am really fed up with these tire problems. Michelin's looking good if they decide to make a one tire manufacturer.

Rubens Barrichello might be going to BAR Honda for next season.

So Michael got second huh?...at least Webber got points too pretty good really as he had to work his way up ...sooo looks like he aint lacking the pace ...not an bad race love that spill that Christan Klien had (Red Bull) team...

Turkey To Host Its First Formula 1 Grand Prix This Weekend !!

Turkey will host its first Formula 1 grand prix this weekend. 2.2 billion people from all over the world are expected to watch Formula 1 race in Istanbul on Sunday.

"This event will make a big contribution to the country and for the economy," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier told a news conference.

The arrival of Ferrari's seven times world champion Michael Schumacher and the rest of the grand prix circus is also being trumpeted as a major boost for the country's international sporting profile.

"We are ready for Formula One. Every measure has been taken in terms of security, customs, health, power and telecommunications," Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said.

Turkish attention is focused as much on the benefits of a global event watched in 200 countries and expected to attract 40,000-60,000 visitors and revenues of around 80-120 million USD.

The undulating 5.340 km circuit has been designed by German architect Hermann Tilke, the creative force behind Malaysia's Sepang, Bahrain's Sakhir and the lavish Shanghai track.

The country has invested 300 million YTL (220 million USD) in the track, surrounding infrastructure and roads.

The Istanbul track features 14 turns - eight lefts and six rights, with the cars expected to reach speeds of up to 320 kph.

The Istanbul Park track is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, six kilometres from the junction of Kurtkoy on the north side of the TEM motorway which links Istanbul to Ankara. It is also close to the newly constructed Sabiha Gokcen Istanbul Airport.

PS:Today Mike Tyson came in Istanbul for F-1

Formula 1 Turkish Grand Prix - İstanbul / Turkey

Raikkonen wins inaugural Turkish GP

Istanbul, Turkey (Sports Network) - McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen won Sunday's inaugural Turkish Grand Prix at the brand new 3.318-mile Istanbul Autodrom circuit. The Finnish driver crossed the finish line 18.606 seconds ahead of runner-up Fernando Alonso.

While Raikkonen started on the pole, it was Giancarlo Fisichella who was the first car to turn one. He got a great jump off the grid and beat the McLaren easily to the first corner. But Raikkonen didn't stay there for long and at turn 12 made a great move around the Italian.

By lap 2 Raikkonen's lead was 1.4 seconds and Alonso also moved past Fisichella.

Meanwhile, near the back, Michael Schumacher was quickly charging through the field and at the end of two laps had made a move from 19th to 11th place.

Lap 14 saw Mark Webber, down a lap, collide with Schumacher. The damage forced the seven-time champion to the pits for 40-seconds of repairs. It effectively ended Schumacher's chances to score any points on the day.

Raikkonen continued to set the pace, but despite Renault team orders to "save fuel," Alonso kept the McLaren within sight. Behind them were Fisichella and Juan Montoya as the drivers reached their first round of pit stops.

The Renaults came in first leaving the McLaren drivers all alone on the track and both Raikkonen and Montoya set fastest laps of the day.

By lap 20, Raikkonen held a 9.9-second lead on his teammate and 35.3 seconds on third-place Jenson Button. The two McLaren drivers stopped on lap 22 and 23 returning to the track still in first and second place.

At the mid-point of the 58-lap event, Raikkonen held 12 seconds on Montoya and 14 seconds on series points leader Alonso.

Alonso made his final stop on lap 34 and was ready to at least make a run at second place before he was done. Plus, with the unreliability of the McLaren engine, a victory was still not out of the question.

With 20 laps to go, Raikkonen's lead over Montoya had been cut to 8.7 seconds as Montoya set fastest lap of the day.

The only question now - could the McLarens make it to the finish line?

Raikkonen and Montoya safely completed their final stops leaving 14 laps to the checkered flag. The Finnish driver completed the final laps without incident, winning for the fifth time in 2005 and chopping two points from Alonso's lead as the Spaniard moved around Montoya for second place.

Fisichella, Button, Jarno Trulli, David Coulthard and Christian Klien completed the points scoring positions.

Alonso's lead is 24 points with five races remaining in the 2005 season. The next event on the Formula One schedule is Sunday, September 4th in Monza, Italy.

All 20 cars finished the race too. :)

Race Report: Monza has a reputation for being a dry race and 2005 was no different from so many previous GPs in the Royal Park. In blazing sunshine the grid lined up for the Italian GP - an ambient temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a track temperature of 45 degrees.

It’s rare that the first chicane in Monza sees no accidents and no cars escaping over the rumble strips, but we almost made it this time round. The cars sprinted into the first turn with Trulli easily outpacing Sato’s BAR-Honda but most cars holding their grid placing and Alonso nowhere near polesitter Montoya.

Further back, Kimi Raikkonen was looking to make an early charge up the field and approaching Turn 1 he had both Villeneuve up the inside of him and also David Coulthard and maybe Mark Webber too.

As it was, the cars slipped through the chicane in orderly fashion, almost like two sets of cars in narrow motorway lanes approaching a contraflow, one on the inside and one on the outside.

On the outside Giancarlo Fisichella braked too hard behind a Ferrari and caused a knock on accident. Coulthard, following Fisi, jumped on his brakes but still hit him and broke a front wing strut. Mark Webber, also in that lane following the Red Bull, was caught out and ran his nose into the back of DC, nerfing him over the high Monza rumble strips.

Both cars immediately pitted for new front wings, their points scoring opportunities virtually gone.

Raikkonen benefited from both cars disappearing but was still stuck behind the lighter-fuelled Jacques Villeneuve.

So as the cars came round on Lap 1 it was Juan Montoya leading by 1.5 seconds from Alonso, Button, Trulli, Sato, Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher, Giancarlo Fisichella in 8th, Ralf Schumacher in 9th, Jacques Villeneuve 10th and Kimi Raikkonen in 11th, exactly where he started from.

Source : http://www.planetf1.com

Overall it was a reasonable race with some decent overtaking. Mark Webber didn't do too well, he pitted after the first lap (got some damage) and was easily beaten by Pizzonia who hadn't even sat in an F1 car for 3 months before yesterday. :D

After Webber poking fun at Pizzonia during their days at Jaguar this was good. :)

No points are only given for 1st-8th. I think it's better than the old system where only 1st-6th got points. Now the smaller teams have a chance for points. :)

Many people are hoping Toyota, catch Ferrari in the constructors championship too.
