Yes I know other actors use stunt doubles as well-I don't have a problem with it when they're certainly in a situation that could be dangerous. I have heard of some actors that refuse to let a stunt man do the stunt for them-the directors love that.

Hi rastafari.

I have no real issue against actors using stunt doubles per se, because there is a lot of stunts/manouvers in these action films that mere actors are not really capable of performing. One thing I don't really like is when they get a stunt performer who is does not even resemble the actor they are doubling. I'll give you two examples of this-:

* Roger Moore in "A View To A Kill"
* Arnold Schwarzenegger in "True Lies"

In regards to "A View To A Kill" just watch the car chase in Paris when Roger is driving a blue Renault rather dangerously with no regard for other road users; the guy doubling him is way shorter and has lighter coloured hair. At least the person doubling him in the fight with Christopher Walken at the end, on top the Golden Gate Bridge looks halfway like him. The same goes for Arnie in "True Lies", just watch the fight in the public toilets with the Arabs; the stunt double who looks nothing like Arnie does most of the fight.

One thing which really does get up my nose however is when a trained fighter/martial artist like Steven Seagal uses doubles for fight scenes. I don't care if he uses them for chases or high falls or even for running but I hate when someone else does his fights. At the end of the day the main reason I watch him and became interested in his films was because of his unique fighting ability. He was not showy; just quick brutal and effective, he is really one of few actors who convinced me that he could handle himself in a proper fight.

Other than that I don't have an issue with stunt doubles.

Peace.

It doesn't bother me either when Steven Seagal uses Stunt doubles for dangerous stunts, that's normal because you don't want Seagal to get hurt doing something that he's not an expert on. But it does bother me when Steven Seagal uses stunt doubles to do his fight sequences. Steven Seagal is a 7th degree aikido master, he has taught aikido from many years, he even had his own Dojo in Japan, so why would he need a double to do aikido fight sequences? I don't buy the age and weight excuse because he has shown that when he wants to do fight sequences he is able to do them with no problems. so i think he simply doesn't want to and probably feels he's getting paid less so he will do less and he also figures just having his name in the film will sell the film.

I dont think seagal does hardly and "stunts" anymore, and to honest I could care less. I dont like seagal because of what he can or cant do, I like him because he always play a "cool" badass char.
But at least make the damn stunt double look like the person he is supost to be. Seagal has had a few stunt doubles like that too, Happens a few times in OFAK.

Speaking of stunt doubles i noticed in the credits for Out For a Kill there are two listings "Steven Seagal's stunt doubles Dian Hristov and Georgi Karlukovski" and " Steven Seagal's Photo Double Georgi Georgiev". What is a "Photo Double"??

Just watched Die Hard last night and you can clearly see Bruce Willis' double in some scenes. So even in the best action movies stunt doubles can be obvious.

Although i didn't start noticing them till i visited movie websites. :)

I've noticed that one as well rastafari, it happens just when Screwface and Seagal are fighting behind the bar of the club at the end, when he rams Seagal's head across the bar. I don't mind it as much for little things like this but I hate it when they use a double to do Seagal's fight scenes. You've pobably remember me stating that before somewhere! LOL

It is no big deal really, as Craig said, you can see evidence of it even in "Die Hard" but they should at least make an effort to get a stunt double who looks something like the guy they are doubling. Look at the bit in "Under Siege 2" where Seagal and Penn fall down the stairwell into the kitchen - the man doubling Seagal has curly hair for hells sake!

His double in "Half Past Dead" looked very like him though.

Peace.

I know what you mean but a big give away when someone is doubling him is his ears. Seagal has pointed (though not freakish) ears and you can always tell when someone else is doubling for him. Some times just even the way they move can tell you that it is someone else. I can't describe it, but you know when it is not him on screen.

As for "Fire Down Below" I noticed in the scene in the mine that someone else is doing the running for him. What I really dislike about that film is the way the director speeded scenes up. I mean he just made them look like an old 1920's slapstick movie. What could have been a good fight in the end in the snooker hall turned into a farce when he deployed this editing gimmick. I think that is mainly why I don't enjoy that film as much as most of his others. I would place both "The Foreigner" and "The Patriot" ahead of it. Just my opinion.

Peace.
