Marked for Death is the only movie of Mr. Seagals' that had scenes that gave me the willies. I fast forward through those scenes and I like the movie. I really liked the remarks he made at the apartment when he killed one guy and the other guy ended up out the window.

BTW with an amazing song at the end: John Crow. I like this song too much and listen many times. I have it in a CD...really great !!!

FU&D! Original Review - Marked For Death - 4/4 guns (spoilers!)

Seagal's third movie is even better than the first. As John Hatcher, ex-DEA agent, Seagal declares war on the Jamaican drug posses that have invaded his old neighborhood. The presence of the Jamaicans lifts the movie to a new level, and Seagal shows a brutality not seen in most of his movies. The opening fight scene is awesome, with Hatcher cutting of one guy's hand with another guy's machete, and the movie just keeps building from there.

Best of all, however, is a fight scene in a department store, when Seagal proclaims his utter disregard for human life before killing a rackhead soldier and rescuing the hostage. I love his line to the rasta hostage taker: "Go ahead, kill her. I don't mind if you kill her you know 'cause I don't know her at all." Even the car chase which precedes this is exciting which, given the number of car chases Hollywood has shown us, really is something.

I also like the showdown with Jimmy Fingers where Seagal's interrogation techniques lead to two spectacular deaths. As the Great One puts it himself: "One thought he was invincible, the other thought he could fly...they were both wrong."

In addition, there's not one, but two final fight scenes as (spoiler!) the main bad guy has a twin brother. As Richard Harrington puts it in his review, this is the first movie where anyone combines a vasectomy and a decapitation. In the final final sword fight, Seagal eventually gets the upper hand by pressing his thumbs into the eyes of his opponent, then breaks his back and throws him down an elevator shaft. Fantastic stuff!

If you want to see Seagal kicking ass with as much vengence as possible, this is the movie for you. It's definitely the movie for me so I'm rewarding it the maximum of four Colt 1911s!

Nomis - I agree entirely. Marked For Death is by far the best movie Seagal has ever made and is also quite possibly one of the best martial arts action movies of all time. For a film with a rather low budget (this movie had a far lower budget than Submerged but is 10 times better) it is simply phenomenal. Even the car chase sequence where Seagal chases the Jamaican gangsters in the blue BMW is a masterpiece. The fight scenes are simply brutal and the entire film shows Seagal in the best shape of his life, with some of the best fight scenes ever. I cannot praise this movie highly enough. This film got me into Steven Seagal way back when it was released to rent over here and I have been a fan ever since.

I like this film so much that I've ordered the Dutch DVD release as it's the only one (to my knowledge) that's uncut and also in anamorphic widescreen. The US DVD is uncut but not anamorphic and the UK and Australian releases are anamorphic but have about 25 seconds of violence cut out.

Until recently I wasn't able to find Marked For Death in the dutch stores, so my expectations were really big. I wondered if MFD could be my number 1 Seagal movie, if I would rate it higher than Under Siege.

Unfortunately no. It's not that I didn't like the movie, but I thought it was a little low paced, while the action (which was really good) only appeared towards the end of the movie. The plot with the twinbadguy was somewhat surprising, but I would have enjoyed it more if the action was spread out a little more over the movie, instead of being there all at once in the end.

The blu ray release of this film is the best version yet. It looks and sounds great. No extra features but I wasn't expecting any, seeing other Seagal releases on blu ray don't have any either. This release is compatible with Region A and B players (not sure about C) which makes it an essential purchase for folks in those regions.

I hope to get copy soon. :) Amazing how much of the picture has been cut off in the DVD version compared with the Blu-Ray.
