Review: Out For Justice

GREAT MOVIE!! Reminded me of Above the Law, w/ Steve-O playin' the Nico-type, inner-city, Italian character. William Forsythe was positively sinister--great casting--as Seagal's nemesis/childhood pal from the old neighborhood. Very evil dude. Fun to see Steve whack him w/ the frying pan at the end...

Favorite scene: the end, when Steve caught up w/ that Teamster guy--who earlier threw the puppy out of his car. "YOOOHHH, F**KNUTS (CAN I HAVE A WORD W/ YOU?)!!" A brief standoff, and Seagal proceeds to kick the tough guy in the "nuts." Great ending, as the puppy walks over the guy, triumphantly.

The last of his low budget Warner Bros movies he made before "Under Siege", this see's Seagal try and trackdown a childhood friend turned murderous drug fuelled scumbag (William Forsythe) for killing his partner before the local mob get their hands on him (who he has similtaneously pissed off). Set in Brooklyn the film has a very gritty, semi-realistic feel to it and one of few of his movies to win any form of critical praise amongst film reviewers. Whilst Seagal gives a very tough as nails performance he also punctuates it with little moments of subtle sensitivity and is one of his best film performances. Where "Out For Justice" really wins the gold is in the very violent action sequences and it delivers them in spades with one of the best bar room brawls I've ever saw. Also praise must go to William Forsythe who brings a genuine hatefullness to the standard role of the scumbag and is really believable as the unhinged drug addict. If there is one real complaint about the movie is that Forsythe is short compared to Seagal and never once poses any real physical threat to him but< that aside, not since "The Outlaw Josey Wales" have I seen a more satisfying destruction of a villain, whereupon Seagal really f*cks him up.

Overall **** out of ***** (An impressive bloodsplattered thriller)

OUT FOR JUSTICE

As the WU-TANG rapped..."bust this..i'm kicking like SEAGAL, out for justice" OFJ is SEAGAL's best movie.....PERIOD!

He is in the best shape of his career, and the film has the best fight scenes of his career (up there with MFD) and every bad-guy that is pulped/killed/maimed has got it coming, because they are really scum.
Note, the deli fight. It consists of about 45 seconds of brutal fight moves, that wipe the floor with CGI garbage (a'la MATRIX) and SEAGAL gives his best performance. His monologues are timeless, and hint at a better actor being trapped inside an action 'icon'

There's not a day that doesn't go by, that i don't stick that deli fight on, it's quick/brutal/yet justified, and it enforces everything that I believe in STEVEN SEAGAL.

JOHN FLYNN is a very under-rated director, who films things stylishly, but without resorting to gimmickry to sell a picture (DEFIANCE, LOCK-UP, NAILS, THE OUTFIT anybody?)

I would love to see SEAGAL make a movie with this director again

peace

I Belong To Steven
I thought it was awesome, very violent yes, but he really knows how to take out the trash, he's a guy who rough around the edges with some sensitivity going on in there...Those nice toned arms, so good to hug me with, oh yeah! The perfect man for me, oh what a sexy guy, and I just loved that accent, you know...That Brooklyn drawl, just thought it was really something...The compassion he gave to that doggie, and the protective way he was with the family, what a combo! I agree he was tip top in the fights in that film....Totally brutal, no doubt about his abilities to protect his woman...:D

Smile dammit!
Right up there near MFD. The action scenes are brilliant and Forsythe never looked meaner. It's a shame he couldn't give him a fight at the end but very enjoyable. I'd love to see him make one like this again.

Ok I will:

This is without doubt Steven Seagal's best film. It is hard, very gritty, very violent, frighteningly realistic at times and Seagal shows us that he really can act if given a proper three-dimentional role. The fight scene in the pool hall is superb and the end fight is truely shocking. Great supporting roles from William Forsythe (a really under-rated actor and one of the nastiest villains of all time) Gina Gershon and loads of those faces you recognise but can't name as the Mafia dons. It is a real shame that Seagal has gone on to make uninspired big-budget action movies as Out for Justice is definately what he does best. And watch out for the character called "Rusty"!

1 of the best movies of seagal that ive seen ,lots of good fight scenes , a good car chase scene ,and of course the villain william forsythe who put a great perormance as ritche madano ,a real bad guy why you give the feeling that you hate him for everything what he does ,best scene of al is where he shots bobby lupo and that woman in the car ,also a very good performance of steven .

Out For Justice was a good flick. I like the part when he hits that guy in the bar with the pool balls & knocks his teeth out LOL. Gina Gershon who was in this is so sexy. Have ya'll seen her in movies Bound with Jennifer Tilly & Palmetto with Woody Harrelson & Elizabeth Shue? She was a lesbian in Bound movie.

FU&D! Original Review - Out For Justice - 4/4 guns

In one of his most violent movies to date, Seagal plays Gino Felino, a NYPD cop who's out to get a drug-crazed childhood friend. Things looks promising when in the opening vignette, Seagal puts a pimp through the windshield of a car and the movie just builds from there.

In Out For Justice, Seagal returns to the extreme violence and vigilianty behaviour of Marked For Death. He repeats his trade-mark bullying of an entire bar, by picking a fight with every patron (as well as the bartender) and then beating them up. You almost feel sorry for the owner when the mafia and then his brother's crazy crew come in for a repeat performance. Almost.

He pushes an unarmed man off a balcony out of spite, pulls a guy through a wall, and beats another senseless with a frying pan. Gino is completely out of control, and I love it!

People may criticize his Brooklyn accent, but it's almost campishly cute. Add to this an excellent bad guy whom you really hate (played by William Forsythe), the classis Beasty Boys track No Sleep 'til Brooklyn and you have one excellent movie. Four guns, hands down.

:gun: :gun: :gun: :gun:

I have an unrated, uncut version of this movie on laserdisc, and it's even more violent. Gino sticks cleavers through guys' hands, he blows a guy's leg off with a shotgun, knocks a guys teeth out all over the floor - excellent stuff! The US DVD is slightly cut but still miles better than the European DVD.

Check out my website for screencaps and audio clips.

One of the most violent films I have ever seen since Scarface lol. I love the whole Italian plot and setting, with out a doubt Seagal's best fight scenes to date.

Out for justice…
A realistic urban style movie…. not the best of his movies but not his worst either I’d rate it pretty average…. the story line wasn’t to complex in fact I would say it was a bit to simple but the acting was superb Steven did a great job. A dirty movie and a bit to down to earth I think. Not my cup of tea
I rate it 6.5/10…. just above average…it had some great aikido moves in it. And the fight scenes and Steven’s acting alone makes it an above average movie
