Review : Shadow Man

supertom

Disgruntled fan!
I'm hoping that the plotlines are more basic and less convoluted in the next two Keusch films. Shadow Man I felt would be the safest bet of those, but having seen SM now, with the poor plotting, I believe a more basic story is the way to go. Plus the sci-fi element could add some humour in Harvester. I can safely say though I don;t feel a sense of dread for his upcoming films, as previously felt waiting for films like MFJ or BD. Things are looking up, but I still think POP will be the proper comeback film.

Hofmae, are there really no more fight scenes in Shadowman than in Mercenary for Justice? If so, then this is bad news, as there was really only one real fight scene in MFJ. That was the fight in the restroom (and even that really wasn't a fight scene, just Seagal punching a guy a bunch of times). Other than that, Seagal executed a few isolated moves, but there weren't any other proper hand-to-hand fight scenes in the whole film. How many hand-to-hand fight scenes would you say are in Shadowman?

Hm, i remind 2-3 fightscenes eventually there are some seconds more than in MFJ. But its not much in my opinion, but enough to be not depressive :)

I've got a trailer finished (little over 5 mins.).

I'm waiting for a respons from Craig to a PM I gave him on how to get the file on the site. Due to the size of the file (34.2 MB) I can't get the file to Craig how I normally do and I can't post it as an attachment.

Peace

I feel Into The Sun and Mercenary For Justice are his best DTV releases of all time. I am predicting Shadow Man will be his best, that's ofcourse in my opinion. ;)

Me too.Insist and persuade kotegashi to upload to:

www.megaupload.com

or

http://www.ezshare.de (rapidshare web hosting)

I will be uploading the file tonight to a private webserver and will sent Craig a downloadlink.

At this time I don't want the file to be openly available for everybody. I want to give the members of this site the first look.

Let's make a deal, if the trailer isn't on the site by sundaynight, then I will upload to www.megaupload.com and post the link here.

Let's be a little patient and give Craig some time, the man probably is busy with his work or studies. I mean, if it wasn't for Craig there wouldn't be www.steven-seagal.net

I just happen to be lucky enough to have seen SM. A few quick thoughts:

+:
+ The production values are quite high. The locations, inside and outside are carefully selected, the costumes, furnitures are looking very good. The look of the movie is great, every scene is beautiful, a pleasure to watch.
+ The pacing is good, a real action-packed movie. TYD had good action scenes, but it just fell into pieces like a puzzle, because of the bad pace. SM instead is quick, has a right focus, the scenes are well edited, and the score adds a lot to the athmosphere.
+ The story is interesting, well built up, although not every characters every motive is crystal clear, the story is pretty easy to follow and as has interesting twists. A very entertaining storyline.
+ Good supporting actors.

-:
- Although Seagal's soft voice, calm speech even in the most critical situations is quite frightening and surely has a greater effect than loud shouting, I think at some points of the story he could've shown more commitment to the search of her daughter with quicker walking, and some impatient, violent rage: for example loud shouting. I think it is not a good thing when a character on screen says his emotions instead of acting them (f.e: I'm, angry.). I really miss a scene like in OOR, when he looks himself in the mirror. That was a deep scene, which really showed, that Seagal can show a lot of emotions. Here, Seagal portrays a nervous person, who tries to stay calm, think with cool head. And he does this well. But for me BOTB potrayed more levels of emotion of a father who wants his daughter back.
- The intro"s font and design is quite bad, it surely should've been polished a bit.
- The car chase screen looks quite strange because there are no reflections to be seen on the windscreen. This gives the internal car shots a fake feeling.

Overall: I think this is his best DVD regarding the look of it, this is one of the most professionally made in every aspect. However the way Seagal acts, the way he portrays his character was better in ITS, in BOTB and in Foreigner as well.

So the movie turned to be not bad at all. The regular stuff you get from Seagal dtv. For me it was on the same level as mercenary for justice, but still i liked mfj a bit more. What i hate about most of the dtvs, the story is so dumb, it serves only an excuse for the action and has nothing that really interest you. Of course the fights were pretty good, the chases was ok. But other than that nothing really happens, seagal moves from one territory to another while shooting and kicking and in the most pointless moment of the film blows up an helicopter (real bad cgi). And in he end you must have some really unexpected twist right? yes you get it, like in all other dtv's. Another thing that annoyed me is that in parts i had a feeling i was watching the detonator, same locations, same feel, same actors, even the same lab. I'm tired of romania. And don't get me wrong, this movie still was pretty enjoyable compared to other seagal recent stuff. Seagal fans will love it.

The Detonator is quite entertaining, but I´m with you, I´m really tired of Romania, Bulgaria, all the European Eastern countries to shoot.

Are really sad to see that locations

Well i too have seen Shadow Man. I was again not expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised.

The plot was quite basic, easy to follow, but quite exciting. Basically a lot of different bad guys were after a super 'virus' and they thought Steven Seagal's character was carrying it.

The action was pretty good, although once again there was some cheap helicopter exploding special effects, they were better than the ones from Black Dawn though. The fights sequences were also pretty good, similar in quality to the ones from Mercenary, but i noticed a few instances where the stunt double was present, but it would not be too noticeable if you were not looking for it.

The one thing i thought was quite funny. At the beginning Steven Seagal is giving a demonstation, one of the students asks how it is done, so Steven Seagal pushes him about 10ft into a wall which i guess kills him. I found it pretty strange. :D

Also in most of Steven Seagal's recent movies he basically plays the same character. This movie could have been another Foreigner. Maybe it's time for some fresh ideas?

Overall i thought the movie was enjoyable, hopefully the next few movies are of similar or if possible better quality.
