Review : The Foreigner

Well here is my mini review.

Overall fans seemed to be worried this was going to be poor. I have to say it's not as good as some of Seagal's earlier films such as Marked For Death, Hard To Kill, etc, but it certainly beats The Patriot and Ticker! I don't think it's on a par with Fire Down Below and The Glimmer Man which i rate much the same.

The film is certainly enjoyable, although for once the plot was a little complicated. Usually in most Seagal films the plot is simple. This one actually made you use your brain a little. There are quite a few twists in the plot.

The supporting actors/actresses were not up to the previous standards in my opinion. They do the job, but are not spectacular. Performances are reasonable from all. The main supporting actor (Max Ryan i think) is an advert for smoking! You'll see what i mean when you watch the movie for yourself.

So does Seagal still kick ass? The quick answer is yes, but you have to wait for a quite a little while in this movie before he does so. The moves he performs are good, but unfortunately the director seemed to like slow-motion shots! Nearly every action sequence was slowed down. This has been done before many time much better. This is supposedly the same director that will direct Seagal's next movie too!

DVD extras are pretty non-existant. You get a selection of trailers, Half Past Dead, The Foreigner, I Spy, XXX and another i can't remember. The movie sound and picture are good, but the menu picture is grainy!!

Overall rating 3/5.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the review!Nice to get a balanced review from a real fan.

Exactly how long do you have to wait before the first fight scenes kick in(no pun intented)?

I am looking forward to getting my copy!

Cheers,

Craig

Craig,
So that's the reason for such bad reviews!
Those news and magazine critics can't use what they haven't got!

I can't wait to see it!!
Thank you for the review!
God bless,

Well - in this movie at least he seems to be doing more of his own fighting that in Half Past Dead. However, I just don't get the use of a stunt double for jumping over and under a fence.

And.... AND he uses a "stunt double" for his voice ! There are a couple of scenes where you see his profile and hear his character speaking, yet it is clear that it is not Seagal's voice. And most blatantly, it then happens when you are looking at Seagal speak. Did Seagal not have time to "loop" ?

Certainly agree with Craig that it was better than The Patriot and Ticker, and with the rest of his review....

I Belong To Steven
Well, I watched it, and I have to say it was a pretty good movie...
It was of a slightly different flavor than the standard Seagal film, which I kind of liked, it had a deeper storyline, with quite a lot of backstabbing going on, actually...Steven (Jon) was a bit sneaky, heh...And there were some pesky REOCCURING characters, all of which you loved to hate! I did find the slowing down of the action sequences a bit annoying, though...And what was it with Steven's different voices??? Why did they do that, I gotta wonder? Can't think of a reason there....I thought he did a lot of impressive shooting, wow...The bbq scene....ummm, well it was different...I found it irritating that the bad guys all moaned and groaned after they should have already been dead, though...
All in all definately a good film, action from the begining, it's certainly worth renting, and owning...I'd give it a four out of five....

I really think that it was done because Seagal didn't want to be bothered to do it himself.

If they have his stunt double's doing practically everything else, then having someone else dub his voice sounds believeable....

My "The Foreigner" Review !!

Now I am writing my opinion:

I am writing especially for us (means ladies):

Steven looks nice !! Awesome!! Beautiful !! Handsome and soooooo spiffy !! His costumes are wonderful !! Especially I liked (may be) light fire brick color sued jacket or coat !! it was GREAT !!!!
He was very good in the all actions scenes !! He was GREAT !!!!! and gorgeous !! Not love of course !!

He went everywhere in Europe in the movie except Turkiye !!
I was sad a little of course !! ;)
Shortly : He was AWESOME, GORGEOUS and WONDERFUL !!!

Not important for me the others !!
Movie was a slow a little !! Except actions parts !! Too much talking !!
But not bad !! not bad !!

I bought and I watched this DVD for only Steven !! And I enjoyed !!

sincerely

A quick review of The Foreigner

This is a special movie......Stevens best character so far.
Mr. Seagal suits best in this kind of character.
There is things that hangs me up, just like "jhogan" said, someone, sometimes acts Stevens voice.....why????
The camerawork is in my opinion perfect! so is the explosions!
The story is a FEW times a little confusing.....but overalll very good.
The Foreigner is overall a very good movie and I want Steven continue to make characters like Jon Cold.

8/10 pts.

nope. but it would be cool to see it. and even the wallpaper movie. the reason is because we'd see what these people are like when they aren't trying to be a certain way. all natural stuff. that's why i think it was good to see him in My Giant.

The 30 sec clip of Seagal & LeBrock in CGTW was hardly what I would term 'natural'..lol
but I get your meaning.....
'un-scripted' things are best for 'natural'...

I bought this film on a monday, which also happens to be the night i go out and drink. This is because drinks are only £1 all night, and i start at about 1.30pm. So by the time i'd finished, i'd consumed enough substances to paralyse a gorilla. I decided that i should watch this film anyway. A tip, don't watch this film without total concentration. I had no idea what was going on. Luckily, i watched it a few days later and was surprised that it's actually not a bad film. Dunois is a badass, although i'm not so sure about him taking 3 shotgun blasts and falling out a first floor window and shrugging it off. Also the fight scenes where a bit rubbish. Especially the one with the black guy in the barn. That was all slappy slappy. But it was fairly entertaining at least. Better than Ticker.

I never have total concentration while watching a Seagal movie, unless it is focusing my eyes on that sexy Steven...And even then my mind starts to wander...;) That's probably why the plot of the foreigner was so hard for me to grasp...LOL...:D
