LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Rodney Dangerfield's recovery has been gradual in the three weeks since he underwent heart valve replacement surgery, but his publicist says that's no cause for alarm.

The comedian has been hospitalized at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center's intensive care unit since the August 25 operation.

"He's 82 years old and doctors are just being safe," Dangerfield spokesman Kevin Sasaki said Wednesday. He added that Dangerfield's doctors expect a full recovery.

Meanwhile, some of Hollywood's biggest names are paying the comic quite a bit of respect.

Close friends Jim Carrey, Jay Leno, Adam Sandler, Roseanne Barr, Andrew Dice Clay, Louie Anderson and Bob Saget have all stopped by to see him, Sasaki said.

"He's been excited that people like that are interested," the publicist added.

During his recovery, Dangerfield's wife, Joan, has remained at his side at the hospital.

Dangerfield, best known for self-mocking monologues based around the phrase "no respect," recently released his autobiography, "It's Not Easy Bein' Me: A Lifetime of No Respect but Plenty of Sex and Drugs."

I knew he had the surgery, but had no idea he was still in the hospital. It's nice to see follow-up stories to previous articles. And I think it's great that those celebrities have stopped by to pay their respects to him. Thanks for the update, Amos. :)

I adored George Peppard.....I even thought he was
gorgeous when he starred in The A-Team. He had
that "extra spark" like Seagal has ;) :)
