This is for those who like the genre. I certainly do. Besides Star Trek, there was another series in the 60s. Darker, with the human race in danger of being enslaved by a dying alien race who wanted our planet. How good was The Invaders? Excellent i thought. After 20 years they are showing late night re-runs. Good one to start.
This was very well made, with Roy Thinnes playing David Vincent. Branded a lunatic and fantasiser,he knew the truth, that aliens disguised as us (saves a fortune on special effects!)were taking over.It worked by playing on fears of paranoia that were rampant at the time with the Cold War. Feel free to add your own in movies or tv series...

If you managed to kill one of the pesky invaders they glowed red and fried up.Serves them right for not researching factor 10!

Another way to recognise one. Deformed hands... Some did not have that though..

They had to regenerate every few weeks to retain human form. Don't we all?!!!

Their massive advantage in technology made them dangerous enemies.

The hypnotic device. Great to shut someone up who gets on your nerves..

When placed on the back of your neck this would give you a cardiac arrest, leaving no suspicion.

I think many of these ideas were imitated in future films and series. Ground breaking...

Oh yes i liked that. That lizard woman who was a leader was hot! And a young Freddy Kruger too in it. Marc Singer, leader of the human resistance in "V" was great as a baddie in the Olivier Gruner film Savate.

Sci-fi is one of my top favorite movie genres, next to action/adventure/mystery. If we're talking about sci-fi TV, I'd have to say Star-Trek is probably my favorite.

These were some of my favorites, in no particular order at all:

~ Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Night Gallery - Some classify these as sci-fi, some don't. They were GREAT shows, either way.
~ Star Trek--The Next Generation. - By far the best of the spin-offs.
~ Star Trek-Deep Space Nine.
~ Stargate - SG1 - Great show. Was on for years on a pay station I didn't get, then finally came to regular cable.
~ X-Files -- Some debate whether this is really sci-fi. I'll include it anyway.
~ Quantum Leap
~ Battlestar Galactica--Decent for its time.
~ Lost in Space - Great campy fun.
~ Dr. Who - Definitely an acquired taste. Many different doctors through the years, some better than others. Hasn't been shown around here in years.
~ Babylon 5
~ Buck Rogers in the 25th Century - Not the best acted, but campy fun.
~ V
~ Alien Nation
~ Farscape
~ Andromeda - This one grew on me. Wasn't crazy about it at first.
~ Time Tunnel - Anyone remember this one? I think it was originally from the 1960s, with James Darren. The Sci-Fi Channel aired it here a couple years ago. Really great for its time.

Ditto for me on all of the above, except maybe for Lost in Space - never could get into that one, although a friend of mine is a complete geek for it. (I found a little keychain of the robot that, when you pressed down on it, bleated, "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!").

I liked the movie of Lost in Space - up until the last 20 minutes, where, for me, it fell completely apart. Gary Oldman as Dr. Smith in places sounded eerily like Jonathan Harris....

X-files had a little of everything - sci-fi, fantasy, horror (lots of horror, now that I think of it). The chicken episode, for example.... yikes! And cigarette-smoking man was deliciously creepy.

The only sf show on TV worth watching any more is Stargate SG-1. Andromeda went downhill starting with the second season, the departure of Rev Bem (BEM, in SF talk means Bug-Eyed Monster, ahem....) (the character left because the actor could not tolerate the latex appliances any more) and it lost all interest for me after Tyr left (that was such a nifty character - you just never knew with him whether he was bad guy gone good, or just a bad guy biding his time).

Stargate is really, really well-written, and Colonel O'Neill's dry humour cracks me up. Favourite episodes are the Groundhog Day one, and the one with Dom Deluise

You've managed to hit all of the top ones that I liked, too, Serena. You missed Firefly, which was, admittedly, on for all of five minutes, but it was really, really good (Fox has a habit of cancelling good shows. See, they had this series called X-files, and no matter how hard they tried to deep-six it, the fans just wanted more. Can't have that on a popular tv network. Oh, dear me, no.)

Futurama was another good one (that Fox killed).

Reboot was fun, although I'm not that fond of the "wrap up the story" movies at the very end.

I was kind of partial to Beauty and the Beast. As ugly a man as Ron Perlman is without makeup, he made a very handsome Beast.

-TD, bereft of good tv sf these days, thank goodness for endless reruns of Buffy and Angel

Oh, I liked that one too! So many good ones never lasted long.

There was one British series I found really interesting, which I don't know if it went its full length or was cancelled early - Cruel Earth. Tripods was another interesting one - gave me the willies, I can tell you!

Actually, I have to confess I do like Tekwar, which they're running on Space (Canadian sf channel) right now. Yes, I know there's some debate about whether William Shatner really wrote the book, but for sci-fi-ness, it ain't bad.

Oh- and what about Max Headroom? I LOVED Max Headroom. I have, somewhere, the British broadcast version of the first episode which differs significantly from the North American one. I was dashed when they cancelled it. Even worse, I was really annoyed that when they ran the repeats of it, they NEVER showed again one episode that was particularly violent - the "raking" episode, where kids on skateboards had Freddy Kruger gloves on and were fighting to the death in an arena. I suppose the censors thought that would give our tender youth too many ideas...

Another short-lived interesting series was one called Earth II, about a group of settlers coming to a planet and encountering the strange inhabitants there, having to fight being double-crossed by their own government, and so on. It was quite interesting, combining political intrigue with action-adventure, with personal conflicts that made you stop and think - no wonder it didn't last! :(

Don't even remember "Space: Above and Beyond". Only one season, from 1995-1996. That was part of my "hardly ever home" era. :D
You know. Before addiction to this site set in. :D

Highlander the series wasn't bad either.

Anyone remember Land of the Giants? :D
I think the Sci-Fi channel showed it here a couple years ago.
Another one not bad for its time. Good campy fun.

I see a lot of sites classify Millennium as a sci-fi show. I'm not sure if I would, but just in case. It was an excellent show, with Lance Henrikson as Frank Black. Really enjoyed this one.

And what was up with Red Dwarf? :D

Storm

Smile dammit!
Red Dwarf was as funny as piles after a year or two! But the android was funny.
Land Of The Giants was ok,but very 60s. They used pole vaults as matchsticks for props.
Dr Who is being re made you know TD. But no Daleks! The family who own copyright can not reach agreement with BBC.
Time Tunnel? Goood stuff. Who would think going through a pscyhedelic porthole would land you in Camelot?
Highlander was brilliant. One of my all time favs. Who would not enjoy cutting heads off and being immortal? I was a member at official site a while but some of them were weird. I mean really deep. Get real and just enjoy it i say.
And i was on Star Trek one for a bit too,but too many wannabee Kirks. One is enough!
Nope,it's this place i return to. Why? Maybe it's because you are as bad as me.:D:)

Storm

Hmmm,a lot of threads on board and not too many posters! So i'll bump it.
The Alien films were all watchable. I'd say 2,1,4 and 3 in that order were best.
They are making a sequel where the creature sneaks in from Mexico. It's called Illegal Alien!:D
Hey,looks like me with a hangover! Heh.
