Seagalogy : New Edition

Hi, I know this is a late response, but I just came across this thread.

I am the Vern in question. I'm sad that some of you didn't like my book, but I honestly can't understand how anybody could read it and get the idea that it was "demeaning" or negative toward Seagal. It's a love letter to his entire career, including his music and energy drink. I absolutely love Seagal's movies and feel that they deserve to be analyzed as serious art. That's why I did just that, spending years writing the book without believing more than a few people would ever read it.

If you read some of the reviews you'll see that the book won over plenty of people who looked down on Seagal's movies to see that he had a message and a style he was getting across. I strongly resent the smarmy attitudes many people have toward the action genre and I've spent more than a decade on my websight and books trying to get more respect for the type of movies I love.

If it bothers you that I have a sense of humor about some of the shortcomings of the movies then yeah, don't read my work. But it would be ridiculous to pretend they weren't there. I think it's part of the charm. You'll never find a more detailed, serious-minded or passionate study of movies even most people on here completely write off as worthless shit. I find something to love in all of them. Please, find me another book that has a whole chapter singing the praises of Out of Reach. I would love to read it.

Masterd48, I have no memory of ever being rude to anybody that emailed me about self-publishing. I always give what little advice I can. I tried to find your email to see what it was that upset you, but I don't know what name you wrote to me under. And I didn't find anything that said "Dear Vern, your book is absolutely terrible, what advice would you have for someone wanting to publish a similar book?" Anyway I'll go ahead and apologize for whatever it was, even though you have such nasty things to say about me and my hard work. I'm sorry I disappointed you.

If anybody here doesn't hate Seagalogy I hope you continue to not hate the new edition, which comes out April 3rd. It has 11 new chapters, including one on Lawman and ones for each of the UK DVD releases of the True Justice episodes that were put together as movies. It'll be available for Kindle also, if you're into that.

thanks,

Vern

Like myself, if you can't afford to buy Vern's new book. Just ask your local public library to purchase a copy. I did and my library will be buying one shortly.

Vern, you and I have spoken a few times and I was suprised to see the response here too. I love the book and it is in no way making fun of him.

My Kindle edition is already pre ordered and I look forward to it.

Thanks Donald and Dexter, I appreciate it.

After digging some more I figured out who MasterD is. He wrote to me a couple times with questions about Lulu (the company that I originally self-published Seagalogy through) and it looks like I didn't respond to him the last time, so that's what offended him. Luckily he figured it out himself and published a book about Mickey Rourke there.

At that time he said that Seagalogy "rocks-i love it, excellent stuff" so I guess my failure to respond really pissed him off. I didn't do it on purpose, so sorry about that MasterD. I'm not always the best about responding to emails.

thanks,

Vern

Hey Vern..I have said my own "real" things on here about Steven's movies (distracting voice dubbing, scenes with rewritten dialouge but NOT re-shot, having several partial seizures with all the shaky camera work during Attack Force...)
I don't have an issue with your book. I DID purchase my original copy used off of Ebay, as I am a tree hugging hippie chick...so I believe in that whole "Renew, reuse, recycle" type philosophy....
I actually have a very "colorful" commentary going on here, as I am the queen of the double entendre :)
Check out some of my posts...just make sure you aren't drinking coffee or anything, because sometimes you don't see my statement finale coming, and it might make your beverage come out of your nose :)
I am looking forward to checking out your latest book

Got the revised edition right next to my old one ... my wife got me it for my Birthday (along with Seasons 1 and 2 of Lawman). A very fine study of Seagal's output.

I'm reading my new edition on Kindle now. So far the most interesting thing is that Vern got to see the Original version of Kill Switch before it was messed with by producers...he explains the whole thing...I would love to see this version.

I started reading yesterday. I read the chapters Above The Law and Hard To Kill...The way Vern describes the movies is great! I can't compare it with the first edition, because I didn't read that one....
