Seagal's Aikido style???

Well, the only thing is true is that Shihan Seagal took Machado ground fighting jiu-jitsu classes for Under Siege II, as Chuck Norris that also studied with them for Walke Texas Ranger, and also Seagal studied Karate when he was young, and Kung-fu, Tai Chi even Kali, in the last years.

He said this in interviews since 1991.Then I´m sure that all that stuff influence his Aikido style, in the same way the pop and the reggae influence his music.

Furthermore, many Aikido warm(ing)-up excercises(more than 1.000, you do depend the class you´ll do after that)are from Qui Gong.

Then, I think that no one must to be shocked for that.Everything is done in movies, music and martial arts.

In my opinion, the special feature of Aikido is the hip work united to the breathe, extension and the HARA, the focused centre and the circular work.

The techniques have invented centuries ago.The concept, the way to mix the things is what make something different, even unique.

This is what Ueshiba did.

Not only did Chuck Norris study Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Walker Texas Ranger, he is a certified Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well.

Tenshin and Aikilove Listen!!!!!

You believe to know Aikido but you know anything.....I trained in Aikido for 18 years and now daito since 3 years. I went to Japan and i discussed with PEOPLE WO LIVED THE HISTORY OF AIKIDO like Inoue, Nishikito, Okamoto Sensei. Where did you learn the history of Aikido??? in BOOKS AND IN THE AIKIDOJOURNAL WEB SITE.....Why don't you believe me....Why don't you learn new something things from another people who maybe have more experience..... One fondamental question: did you go in Japan???? I went to Hokkaido where Ueshiba Sensei learnt Aikijujutsu from Takeda Sensei!!!!

It's amazing to read this one!!
"am not sure if your trying to assert the superiority of your art over Aikido,"
My art???? my art like you sait allow you to train in Aikido!!!!! You train in Aikido because Ueshiba learnt Aikijujutsu from Takeda....With the great respect thar i have for Ueshiba Sensei, he didn't invent the technique that you did all the days during your training!!!

He simplified strongly the daito-ryu aikijujutsu with a lot of philosophy and religious concept. During his research he allow all people of the world to train in Aikido with the technical basis of Aikijujutsu....This is what the Master that i met in Japan told me!!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE AND UNDERSTAND THIS PLEASE!!!!!!

I didn't say that Seagal Sensei trained in Aikijujutsu....i have just said that in his training there are some techniques from daito-ryu like Strongulation but also others techniques Aikilove others techniques because you focused in Strongulation....Right there are Strongulation in others martial art but i recognize thypical techniques from the daito!!!! There a lot of people who do daito techniques after saw in Seminar or personal research (like a guy in Spain i don't remember his name) because it is clear that Seagal did a synthesis from differents styles to do his own style : an example: the Irimi Nage in the Seagal training: i have never seen it in others school of Aikido.

To finish:
Open you mind to another things...See others things that Aikido!!! If you want come in Hokkaido or Tokkyo to meet Inoue or Okamoto Sensei!!! You will understand after these master applied techniques on you (like the amazing technique katameru waza) why Ueshiba in a technical way he simplified the daito techniques!!!!!

"have recently started training in Daito Ryu" where do you study Tenshin???? if it's not in Japan or by a very advanced guy who studied in Japan.. please stop your training in Daito, you loss your time!!!

DaitoRyu Fighter,

Let me first state that I AM taking Daito Ryu from a study group who is affiliated with a very known Daito Ryu master. Second, I will not get into who I train with as I have learned early on how political things work in the martial arts and I am not going there. I am not training daily or weekly, it is something I have to do where I fly out and train for several days and then bring back what I have learned. If you think it is "my loss my time" or whatever that is supposed to mean, well, that is your opinion and yours only. I am studying Daito Ryu for many reasons, and they are my reasons.

Neither Aikilove nor myself need any history from you regarding Aikido/Daito Ryu I think we both have an understanding that Aikido has a curriculm taken from Daito Ryu, we have not disputed this.

And with respect for training in Japan, I do not need to go to Japan to train to "legititimize" my art, my training or what I know. I have learned what I know by speaking to sensei's, researching and talking to shihans when they come in my area and do seminars (such as Isoyama Shihan). Please do not think that by going to Japan taht it makes you or anyone more superior or more knowledgable.

You are right though, katameru waza is a very impressive technique!!!!

And for me to finish, if you said that Seagal didn't train in Daito Ryu, then what did you say, I must have misread it. Because if he did a Daito Ryu technique, and you say you know a Daito Ryu technique from other techniques, then Seagal must have studied Daito Ryu to have applied a DR technique, correct? I am only going by what you say. And yet, for someone who has studied Aikido for 18 years and Daito Ryu (Roppokai I am thinking) for 3, you sure are an agressive person and confrontational when it comes to these things. Are you a bully and like to start fights????? Please understand, I am not trying to start a fight here, I am trying to understand wher you are coming from, I do respect your opinion. I just wish you would also respect mine and others!!!!!!

I do not surprise.Chuck Norris always worked hard, I admired him for that.

Yeah Chuck Norris is an admirable and constant man.

I still think Norris is impressive, regardless of what he has put out recently. I loved Walker and always waited for the end of the show when the good fight scenes were sure to be on!!!!

I used to not like Norris, but gave him another try and since then I became a huge fan. I started ordering and buying all of his old classic movies on DVD such as The Octagon, Delta Force 2, Hero And The Terror, HellBound, Forced Vengeance, etc..

Ah yes, the classic Norris films, the ones after Bruce Lee whipped him!!! I still like the guy. He did have a hard go of it in the movie business in the begining, interesting indeed. I need to start ordering his movies on DVD!!!

No Aikido School around

Look for a Hapkido School or Judo. However I would go with Judo before Hapkido, here is why: It is hard to find a legitimate traditional hapkido school. I know the naysayers don't believe it to be true but it is.

Choi and Usheba, sorry if I misspelled learned from Takeda. That is why the similiarity. However it is hard to find a good traditional hapkido school that teaches true hapkido. I know my father is a master in hapkido, his instructor learned from wha kwan wha. Wha was one of Choi's first 11 students. If you are looking for a good art to learn then look at Judo. Judo is a great art for conditioning and self defense. Good luck. Hey by the way there is a school here in St. Louis called Aikido-Three Rivers Martial Arts. The students and instructor fly out to Segal's ranch and test for their belt advancements once a year.
