Steven's song for today!

All the gold in all the world
Is nothing to possess
If all the things that it can bring
Can't add up to one ounce of your happiness

And for your love
I would do anything
Just to see the smile upon your face
For your love
I would go anywhere
Just you tell me and i'll be right there

A diamond that shines
Like a star in the sky
Is nothing to behold
For miniscule is any light
If it can't like you brighten up my soul

And for your love
I would do anything
Just to see the smile upon your face

For your love
I would go anywhere
Just you tell me and i'll be right there

I could have never fathomed this
Such joy, love and tenderness
That you give to me
For the love i feel inside
It's so wonderful i can't hide
And i glow, i glow
With just the thought of you
I do, i do, i do, i do, i do, i do

And for your love
I would do anything
Just to see the smile upon your face
For your love
I would go anywhere
Just you tell me and i'll be right there

And for your love
I would do anything
Just to see the smile upon your face
For your love
I would go anywhere
Just you tell me and i'll be right there

Smile dammit!
Good selections all. That Anne murray song is great Serena. Take this dance?:D It's amazing you posted the Vandross version of that song. It has just been on tv,with it sung by a guy imitating him!
He sang it great too.
Lollipop, very true about gold. It cannot bring happiness.People do that:D
Kat i like your lyric tastes. That Seger one was great.

When a country struggles for freedom, you think of the heroes. But it's the weak ones..the traitors to the cause who do the real damage....

Patriot Game

Come all ye young rebels, and list while I sing,
For the love of one's country is a terrible thing.
It banishes fear with the speed of a flame,
And it makes us all part of the patriot game.

My name is O'Hanlon, and I've just turned sixteen.
My home is in Monaghan, and where I was weaned
I learned all my life cruel England's to blame,
So now I am part of the patriot game.

This Ireland of ours has too long been half free.
Six counties lie under John Bull's tyranny.
But still De Valera is greatly to blame
For shirking his part in the Patriot game.

They told me how Connolly was shot in his chair,
His wounds from the fighting all bloody and bare.
His fine body twisted, all battered and lame
They soon made me part of the patriot game.

It's nearly two years since I wandered away
With the local battalion of the bold IRA,
For I read of our heroes, and wanted the same
To play out my part in the patriot game.

[extra verse I found]
I don't mind a bit if I shoot down police
They are lackeys for war never guardians of peace
And yet at deserters I'm never let aim
The rebels who sold out the patriot game

And now as I lie here, my body all holes
I think of those traitors who bargained in souls
And I wish that my rifle had given the same
To those Quislings who sold out the patriot game.

Very nice song, Lollipop! :) I've always liked this one. I'm surprised you know as many of the oldies as you do. We both love all kinds, eh? ;)

It's a very pretty song, Storm, if you've not heard it. Anne Murray has a beautiful voice. But I could very well seriously damage someone dancing with them in my high heels--two left high heels. :D

Which is more amazing? The fact that I posted that song, or that you happened to see that post just minutes after watching him sing it on TV! Which one of us is more psychic? :D

You find some amazing songs, Storm. What haunting lyrics. A 16 y/o kid, lying dead in the street, for a cause that was drilled into him his whole life. One thing I do like about some of these Irish songs is they give a face, an identity to people who died for what they believed in. They're not just a number or a stat. They were someone's child, someone's parent, someone's sibling. As with any war, really, at any time in history.

(Attenton, please: Amos has created a new thread for song dedications, which he called "Take Two", clever guy that he is. ;) :D)
