St. Anger

Unless you ROCK, you may as well not look at this thread...

What does anyone who has heard it think of the new Metallica album, St. Anger? I like Metallica a lot, although I found Load hard to get into and Reload pretty much inaccessible. However, St. Anger is a stunning return to form and by far their, er, angriest album since the final fading chords of ...And Justice For All. To me, it is the sound of a band who are doing an album for the sheer love of heavy metal once again. The Black Album, although excellent, veered towards a band looking for radio airplay and critical acclaim rather than good old fashioned heavy metal and Load and Reload was a load of commercial heavy rock bollocks. Much was made (by Lars Ulrich especially) at the time of the release of Load and Reload of the 'greasy' sound of the new albums. I just thought they sounded cack. However, this album is excellent, right from the outset with the aptly titled Frantic, to the time changing excellence of the title track, the almost bluesey riff of Some Kind Of Monster (which I reckon should have been the title of the album) and the rest of the album, save perhaps for Sweet Amber, which I can't seem to get into, is a pure heavy metal masterclass. I was honestly not expecting to be blown away by the album, but I was wrong. It took me a couple of listens to get into it, but I am now well and truly hooked, and it is constantly on my car CD player (I love to wind the windows down, crank the volume up to 20 and scare old ladies with the opening riff of the song St. Anger!). The album is not without it's faults - the first thing I noticed about it which I didn't really like is the fact that the snare drum seems to be too high pitched, the production could be more polished and Bob Rock plays bass - bring back Newstead! However, these small points aside, this album rules and I would give it 9/10. I just hope the new Maiden album blows it out of the water now!

Leon - I rock, mate! You should too! Heavy metal is coming back in a big way. All this hip-hop/urban/r&b/reggae nonsense ain't for me, man! But I respect your taste in music, even though I would dearly love to catch the little turd who keeps stealing expensive Jay Z (whoever the **** he is) CD's from my HMV store! I'd hancuff him to a chair in the security office and play Slayer at maximum volume right down his ******* ear for an hour.

Not a fan of Metallica...seen who there touring with though Linkin Park Jesus christ. Limp Bizkit who's first album I really liked second wasn't so bad but since then :mad2: , Metallica shouldn't be touring with them kind of bands in my opinion unless they want to attract younger kids to there music.

Limp Bizkit's 'Significant Other' album was awesome, but then they embraced Nu-Metal and turned into a bunch of wimpy, posing twats.

Hahahaha...

Dick - I forgot about 3 Dollar Bill Y'all! Apart from the awful redneck title, it is an excellent album.

I think the album is great. It was also great value for money as it included a DVD as well as a password to get to a music vault where you can download a load of unreleased live songs.

Some kinda monster

Metallicas rockumentary 'some kinda monster' has been hailed by critcs throughout rockdom.
The sordid details of rehab, stress levels and angst amongst the members is vividly displayed during this no holds barred shoot.Group therapy is a wonderful thing and re-unites the foursome even closer to strip back layers of dysfunctionalism and to re-emerge with the awesome founding sound that is Metallica with their latest release 'St anger'.
This is not strictly for metal heads but also for those who would like a little insight into the ugliness and beauty that is the world of the musician

Die Hard Seagal fan!
Yes "Some kind of Monster" is really good to listen too...
And I think Metallica is a really good Heavy Metal band, but I also like HIM, but I listing this music a long time ago, now I only listen to Seagal's blues and to new pop songs like the Pussy Cat Dolls, Rihanna etc.
