Live for life concert helps flood victims

Andreea Pocotila

President Traian Basescu donated his salary for one month and actor Seven Seagal made an appeal to all Romanians to help the victims of floods yesterday during the Live for life concert.
Thousands of people gathered yesterday in Piata Constitutiei to take part in a nine-hour musical marathon.
Although it was organized on a very hot day, starting at 3 p.m., the concert gathered more people than expected. Once the sun went down, large groups of people started to arrive in the square.
Pepe, Akcent, HI-Q, Class, Nicola, Nightloosers, Trooper, Analia, Banica jr., Bere Gratis, Vita de vie, and Voltaj, were some of the artists and bands who sang at the concert. The crowd started yelling when Vama Veche came on stage, as they had organized the event. The last band to sing was Iris, who were the only ones who came back on the stage when the public asked them to.
Other organizers of the event were the Agency for dreams, Bucharest City Hall and Romanian public television. The concert is part of the "Defeat the waters" campaign, carried out between July, 14 and December, 1, by Romanian Television and the Romanian Patriarchy.
The musical marathon Life for life, which aimed to raise funds for those affected by floods, began Tuesday afternoon in the Piata Constitutiei in the center of the capital. The first to donate money were General Mayor Adriean Videanu, Deputy Lavinia Sandru, who is a member of the newly formed National Initiative Party, as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu and Mugurel Vrabete, the bass player of the band Holograf.
Videanu opened the concert offered by the over 15 artists and bands who participated in the eight hours fundraising event. The artists agreed to sing without payment in support of the flood victims. Nevertheless, several stars also made donations.
The president also took part in the event and donated his salary for one month.
"If you want to know what salary a president has, look in the Official Registry. It is 41 million lei (about 1,000 euros)," Basescu said laughing.

Steven Seagal: "We are all a family"

The concert did not lack the presence of international stars, such as actor Steven Seagal, who is in Romania to shoot a movie, and made a speech during the concert. He made an appeal to all Romanians, asking them to support those who need help.
"On the one hand, this is a happy occasion to be here together, but at the same time it is unhappy because many people are suffering because they lost their homes," Seagal told the thousands of people gathered in Piata Constitutiei.
The actor, who will stay in Romania for about two months, advised Romanians to do everything in their power to help those "who do not have food or a place to live."
"No matter what our occupation, we are all a family and we have to help each other like in a family," the action movie actor said.
After Seagal came down from the stage, actor and singer Tudor Chirila, the concert's initiator, offered him a guitar and asked him to go back on. The well-known actor refused.
Surrounded by five bodyguards suspiciously looking at everybody, Seagal gave autographs to journalists and gendarmes for about ten minutes. The gendarmes left their positions to get an autograph from the famous actor. The actor even signed his autograph on a 10,000 lei bill.

Thank you very much for the info, Suzi. Well done. :)

Gunslinger: That's the movie "Toyman", although we still not sure if that's the name of the movie or the production company. Here's an excerpt from Suzi's original post:

"Steven Seagal is the third Hollywood action-movie star expected to shoot in Romania at the end of this month, after Jean Claude Van Damme and Wesley Snipes who have already got used to living in Bucharest. Action-movie star and martial arts master Steven Seagal is expected in Romania at the end of this month, to prepare for the main part he is going to play in the “Toyman” production, according to cineplus.ro, a Romania film website."

I am impressed with Steven for taking the time to speak up for the victims. He may have been wary in that crowd, but i don't blame him. Too many fruitcakes about!
Good find Suzi.

How do you do it Suzi? You are amazing !!, One question: Was Arissa one of those 14 people? Haven't heard anything about here, or seen her picture of her and Steve for a long time. Are they still together? Just wondering?
If anybody knows, you do!!

Maybe she's camera shy....who knows....I know if I were in her shoes...everytime I saw a camera I would hide behind Steven. But if I saw you Super Duper Spy Suzi, I'd give you my famous cheesy grin, because you are the best!!! How do you do it? What's your secret?

Suzi is a wizard! She is the real headmaster of Hogwarts! She is a very special, magic person who knows everything! :D :D :D

I'm continually amazed how she can find out things, even what Steven had for dinner! I think I see her hiding behind a big plant in the restaurant!
