Thanks for the info and the pic, Suzi. :) After clicking your link, it required signing up for membership. It's good to know filming is completed. Wonder if filming will begin soon on Mercenary, which is the last update we saw from Family Room Entertainment.

'For the kids'
Guests of Grizzlies prez bear up, even under pressure at the net, at Le Bonheur benefit

By Michael Donahue
September 28, 2004

When it comes to charity work, Grizzlies president Jerry West said he likes to do things anonymously. But Thursday night Jerry and his wife, Karen, opened their Southwind home for a fund-raiser for Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center.

"Anything I can do for kids," Jerry explained.

Guests were taken in golf carts from their cars up the long drive to the couple's home.

David Kindig, 15, one of the valets, said he took about 50 people in his cart during the evening.

Alex Grisanti and staff from Elfo's restaurant catered the elegant outdoor party with appetizers, including smoked salmon crepes, and a lavish buffet featuring tuna carpaccio, smoked chicken ravioli, vegetable manicotti and other dishes.

Carson & Pool provided the music.

Later in the evening, Jerry and his son, Jonnie West, 16, joined John Calipari, Alan Graf and others to shoot some basketball.

Among those attending were Dr. Chris Gilbert, chief of pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at Le Bonheur, who attended with his wife, Linda; Michael Heisley, Debbi Fields Rose and her husband, Michael Rose, Arnold and Mary Lynn Perl, Catherine and Bill Margaritis, Anne Miller and Reggie Barnes, Paula Jacobson, Dwight and Kathy Clark, Maria and Bob Chandler, Thomas and Lindsay Farnsworth, Gene and Karen Carlisle.

Post-bout toasts

Boxing fans who attended the Roy Jones Jr.-Glen Johnson bout at the FedExForum gathered at the nearby Plush Club Saturday night for post-fight parties. Mayor Willie Herenton and Nike held separate parties in the club's VIP rooms. Others just partied in other areas of the club.

Everyone shared their opinion about the match, which left Johnson the victor.

"Even though my fighter lost, it was cool," Kevin Kane said.

"I've never seen a guy get hit that hard," said Larry Howell, referring to Jones.

"When you lose your enthusiasm, you lose," said Aubrey Howard.

Actor Steven Seagal stopped by the mayor's party and took time to pose for pictures with guests.

Among those at the Plush Club were Archie Collins and Valerie Jackson, Nakeisha Green, Sharon Coleman, Sam Hines, Terry Sellers and Tony Elion, James Clark, Sheba Potts, Charlie Spell, Amandra Crenshaw, Mark Goodfellow, Mark and Veronica Yates, Fred and Carolyn Jones, Sondra Becton, Patrice Randolph, Adrianne Broadnax, Eddie Jackson, Reginald Boyland, Marvin Robinson, Geno Evans, Michelle Fifer, Ronald and Carolyn Kent, Shirley Holloway.

Tamales the Aviotti way

Living up to his heritage, Pete Aviotti likes to cook Italian dishes, including ravioli and caplettis. But he also likes Mexican food; he was a big fan of the old La Rosa Mexican restaurant on Broad.

So, Pete began his own line of Mexican food, which he calls "La Rosa." Somebody "needed to make a great tamale in this city," he said. His wife, Penny, and his daughter, Maria Aviotti, are partners in the business.

Pete and Penny invited friends, "a good cross-section of various people who love good food," he said, to their Midtown home Thursday to feast on venison chili and La Rosa tamales.

Pete wouldn't divulge his recipes, but one ingredient was sugar, which, as Italian cooks know, cuts the acidity of tomatoes, he said. And, he added, always use a bottle of good Burgundy.

Among those attending were Lynne and Henry Turley, Mike and Carol Palazola, Beth and Parks Dixon, Chris Peck and Kate Duignan, Merrill Howard, Dawn Lopez; and Carolyn Williams-Bennett and her husband, Tom.

Just got to this, thanks Suzi. I am really dying to see this movie because the plot shall I say is so unique.
