Steven Seagal Question!

What other side would that be? I've been as patient as I can be, as a fan of his films, and there is absolutely no explanation for the poor quality work coming from him lately other than he simply doesn't care. You can see the difference between his early films and his latest ones - he cared about what he was doing when he was first starting out. Cared about it so passionately he put 100% of himself into the films. Gasp! He even did post-production work!

We're lucky now if 50% of the scenes where it's supposed to be him actually have him in it, either physically or vocally. And most of the time he looks like he's asleep, hungover or his mind is on something else other than the scene he's supposed to be acting in.

He knows his fans will apologise for his shortcomings and buy and rent whatever kind of rubbishy film he puts out, so why should he exert himself?

That's why I do not believe he cares about his fans. We're the ones that made him successful; and we're the ones that are accepting his low standard of quality of work, by being apologists. He can do better, if he wants to- he just doesn't want to.

Hofmae, we have had this question asked many times.... the fact is, he doesn't like his fans, he doesn't like interacting with us. He did, once upon a time, answer an aikido question in the previous version of his "official" website, and everyone went pretty much ape**** over it (did anyone from the old official site have the foresight to copy the text, I wonder?). But that board was unmoderated and a lot of unpleasantness occurred that would turn anybody off, and certainly didn't help with reinforcing the notion that his fans were on the whole, awful people he wouldn't waste the time of day with.

Simply put, he has no time for the fans who support him in the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed. It's a sad fact, but true.

We just have to live with it.

did you ever meet him? i seen him before and he was NICE to all his fans so you can't say he doesn't like his fans. to me he is a nice guy but he must not been nice to you or are you going by what other people say?

If a football star plays in a team that is weak, and suffers a lot of defeats, it means that the star doesn't like his fans?

No.

A movie is a team work, and if someone doesn't like the movie, :

1: a lot of people may still like it,
2: it doesn't mean that an actor didn't do his best
3: no way does it mean that an actor doesn't like his fans.

No actor in this world made movies that were loved by everyone.

But what actor consistently makes bad films, one right after another, and still expects to be held in high regard by his fans?

As for a movie being teamwork - yes, that's true - and Steven isn't part of the team. If he were, he'd put in time for post-production. After all, he is the star of the film, the highest-paid performer, and if those who are paid less are putting in 100% despite how awful the film is, why shouldn't he?

And if a football player plays consistently badly, the fans will not support him. If he wants his fans to support him, he has to produce the goods.

Steven isn't producing the goods. So why are we apologising for him? If he were a footballer performing badly, you can bet he'd be booed from the stands. But not us. We apologise for him. "It's okay that he doesn't put in 100% - he's got a busy schedule, why should he waste time actually putting any effort whatsoever into making his films?"

Sorry, guys - but I've reached the end of my patience with seeing one crappy movie after another of Steven's. I just had to blow off steam on this subject. And that doesn't make me any less of a fan - I'm just more fussy than most. I expect value for my dollar. I'm not getting it.

European films look different than the US films, and Asian films are different too. Seagal is a lucky man, he had the possibility in the last few years to try his talents in lot of styles. A lot of people in the US "hate" everything which his European, this is what we call 'cultural discount'. This is why the succesful European films has to be re-made for the USA spectators. Lot of USA spectators find Foreigner's set "cheap", which is funny, as some of those castles, statues, furnitures are older than the United States itself...

I'm happy, that Seagal realized this self-important point of view of the US spectators, and says with his films: you are stupid, there is filmmaking outside the USA.

So from a European point of view, Seagal's films are not bad, only different.

I feel like he is doing the best he can! The years are going by time makes you pay a price! And it seems he wants to be involved in things other than just movies, he is doing this charity stuff everywhere! Now music, which is great! He has a full plate! And life is short and he wants to live it to the fullest apparently! Maybe you feel his movies are not up to par when others are enjoying that he is just still around! That would be me!

Please do not call American's stupid, I am American and do not appreciate that comment at all! And I don't think SS would appreciate it either! People only stress there views that strongly when they are Out of Reach! :smad:

Yes, there's filmmaking outside of the USA - but that still doesn't excuse the poor overall quality of the films that Steven has been making. The direction is bad; the scripts are horrendous. He is doubled in just about everything so that he ends up hardly being in the film at all.

If "European style" films mean that scripts are bad, direction is bad and the star of the movie can be substituted by a double when he doesn't feel like working, I think I'll stick to North American films.

And I've seen European films, and there are bad ones as well as good ones. Steven's European films have all been universally bad. Not different. Just bad.

A lot of films are made here in Canada. It used to be said any Hollywood production made in Canada was bad. In the early days, it was. But our movie people proved themselves to be professionals in spite of the negative comments, and the quality of the movies improved tremendously. "Chicago" won the Oscar for best picture - and it was shot entirely in Canada, and yes, the Hollywood establishment had a lot of negative things to say about that, with the "no-name" supporting cast (I knew who they were, but then, I'm Canadian) - but it was still voted Best Picture. Why? Because everyone in it performed at a professional level. Did anyone dub Richard Gere's lines? Did he have a body double when he was dancing? No. Did anyone dub or body-double Rene Zellweger's lines and moves? No. Did anyone body-double or dub Catherine Zeta-Jones' lines and moves? No. And, yet, it was filmed in Canada because it was cheaper to do it here. But the stars did their part.

That's why Steven works in Europe - out of a $15-20 million budget for a film, he gets $3 million. That doesn't leave a lot for the rest of the film, so everything is cut-rate - including production quality, who they get to act in the film, and who they get to direct. And it shows.

Look - I understand that your expectations are not as high as mine. I believe if someone has talent and ability, it behooves him to use it to the best of his ability, otherwise, it's just a waste of time. If he's too busy with all the other things in his life to make a decent movie, then he should stop making movies, and turn his attention to the things that really matter to him, because, clearly, making movies isn't among them.

I think the point that Kcs was making was that it's Steven himself thumbing his nose at making movies in the US. And that may very well be the case.

By the way, I should point out that I'm blowing off steam here because I've been so disappointed in all of Steven's more recent movies. Villify me if you want to; I honestly think he should quit making movies, especially as it seems he's lost interest in making them, and he has so many other things on the go that he'd rather be doing.

Hello I was also wondering has eneyone ever had a reply to fan mail sent to Mr seagal i wrote to him to congratulate him on the release of his album songs from the crystal cave because i enjoyed it so much as did everyone else .I thought he was trying to get so many messages across to all of us about the harm that is being done to our planet that we all live on we should look after it for the sake of others who will still be here when we have all passed on .The list is endless . I have not received a reply and i am wondering does steven ever get to see his fan mail he seems such a very caring person and very genuine i think he would be very upset at some of the comments that have bene given . I realise that he is a very busy man with all the work he does . His filming and his music to name just a few and also the time he gives to charity work it does not leave him much time to spend with his family . But it would be so nice to hear from him if only twice a year He sent us a message. He did send one before to thank us all for our support but that was some time ago . If steven does not have the time surely someone who works at his fan club could keep us up to date about where he is and what he is doing .I realise they have to be very careful about the information they give out for security reasons we all want steven to be safe because there are some weird people out there who may wish harm to steven but it would be so nice to know that he is happy and well i hope he does read this letter and knows how upset we all are at not hearing from him .I will always support him as he is such a wonderful person and i am one of his greatest fans and i dream of meeting him one day .Well i can dream cant i it doesn't cost eneything. This is just my opinion .god bless . sheila

All of Steven's fan mail is pitched into the rubbish bin as soon as it is received. And yes, I do know this for a fact.

You have to know someone on his staff for anything to get to him, and even then, it's unlikely he'll respond.

That would flush except for this part here

You personally expressed your happiness at Steven seeing us American's as being stupid and carried his business elsewhere!

I don't think you or TD can express how he feels!
And with TD being an administrator she should see how this was offensive to me!
If TD is not happy with him, and that disappointed she should move on!

It is not fair to expect an answer from him. I think he gets such an amount of letters, that this makes it impossible.

I'm sorry if you still don't understand my point. It is much easier to feel offended - I know.

Let me repeat: I didn't intended to say anything offending about American people.
