Actor Steven Seagal sued for $14 million by production company!!
Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Actor Steven Seagal has been sued for $14 million for allegedly delaying production on two movies.

Seagal allegedly showed up late and left early while shooting "Today You Die" and "Mercenary," routinely rewrote and changed scripts on the set, and brought an entourage that interfered with film crews, according to the Superior Court suit filed Monday.

The lawsuit was filed by production company Kill Master Productions and its sales agent, Nu Image.

The 54-year-old is best known for his martial-arts moves in films like "Under Siege" and "Exit Wounds." A message left with Gerry Harrington, who has served as his manager, was not immediately returned Wednesday night.

In one instance, Seagal allegedly arrived 45 minutes late while filming "Today You Die" and left the location 3 1/2 hours early.

Because of his actions, planned scenes were never shot, leaving the film with a "material and irreparable problem with story logic," according to the lawsuit, which also seeks unspecified damages.

This is exactly why I am boycotting his new films...

I just read this news. It seems he doesn't care about his movies. He doesn't care about his fans. I refuse to give money for him to make movies that are no good, and exploit the fans for his own enjoyment. I am done with Seagal, and so are all my friends.

All the movies he made since Half Past Dead were a complete disaster.
And they're only getting worse. I don't know whats up with that, its almost
as if some mafia told him that he has to make X crappy movies.

I don't understand why he do this... I mean i don't hear that the first time that he comes late and goes early... Maybe its really like this is only a job, and he doesn't feel motivated anymore, because he exactly knows that the movie will not be A-Quality. That would make it logical for me, that he gave so much efforts in Into the Sun, because this was some kind of "His" Movie...

That could be true Hofmae, but i think he has to do it for his fans. He knows that we care about him. So it would be nice if he also would care about us. But maybe, like Suziwong said, he has his own reasons...

We have to accept that after so many years its just a job for him. But he knows he can be successfull today too, because he has a lot of fans. And im sure he knows to that in 15 years he can't do any action movies... So he takes the time he has to make actionflicks :)

Seagal slapped with 'Mercenary' lawsuit
Distribs claiming thesp caused prod'n delays

Steven Seagal and his companies Steamroller Prods. and Luminocity Media have been sued for $14 million by DVD movie producers plus distribs Kill Master Prods. and Nu Image.
Kill Master and Nu Image claim in a suit filed in L.A. Superior Court on Monday that Seagal's on-set behavior during the production of two movies currently in post-production, "Today You Die" and "Mercenary," caused production delays that could result in millions of dollars in reshoots.

The plaintiffs also claim that Seagal's frequent, unapproved and unauthorized changes to the script and dialogue will result in the loss of millions of dollars in sales commitments because elements of the film that were promised now cannot be delivered to the film buyers.

Suit also alleges that "Seagal and his entourage continually harassed, intimidated and threatened the production and members of the production team with requests and demands that were inappropriate, outrageous or not contractually required."

The plaintiffs claim they have already paid Seagal $3.5 million of his $4.75 million salary for his work on "Mercenary."

The suit says that Seagal showed up on location in South Africa for "Mercenary" only "begrudgingly" and when threatened with legal action.

Seagal attorney Marty Singer called the suit "ridiculous and without merit" and "a clear preemptive strike" to a suit that Seagal was preparing to file against the plaintiffs alleging fraud; it could be filed as early as today.

Singer said attorneys and Seagal agents at William Morris notified Kill Master and Nu Image more than a month ago about substantial complaints of fraud they were bringing against the production in South Africa, where, he said, a criminal investigation into the loss of millions of dollars is under way.

An estimated $5 million-$7 million of the $13 million-$14 million production was not put into the pic, Singer said, which will damage the chances of the film getting a theatrical release in any territory.

On Tuesday evening, the day after the suit was filed, Nu Image offered to pay Seagal $650,000 of the remaining $830,000 he is owed on final payment of his salary for "Mercenary," according to Singer. Nothing was mentioned at that time about the suit, which Singer said came as a surprise to Seagal on Wednesday.

As to the claims of misconduct during production that caused delays, Singer said the pic, which was shot in April and May, was completed under budget and on time.

Attorneys for Kill Master, who filed the suit, did not return calls for comment.

Well, this is ONE way to get publicity before the release of two new movies, eh? :indiffere :D
"Kill Master, who filed the suit". :D

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this is the last we hear of this, either being *settled out of court* or dropped altogether.

Thanks for posting the news, Suzi.

Who do we believe? Seagal or the production company?

Personally, I can believe that Seagal would probably act like a jerk on set and it wouldn't surprise me at all f he turned up late and knocked off early. The quality of his previous 8 films should show you that much. Maybe this would explain why there is so much dubbing and body double usage in his latest films.

This isn't the first instance of him being difficult on set - he was also difficult on the set of Exit Wounds. They'd shoot a scene, set up for a re-shoot or the next scene, but by that time he'd disappeared and they had to go hunting for him. They went into cost overruns having to take an extra day to shoot one scene because they couldn't keep him from taking off.

It looks like the people at "Mercenary" and "Today You Die" thought what they originally had was good enough to care about doing right, hence the lawsuit.

Good ol' Seagal - Rockin' the boat. Kinda sounds as though the production companies are looking for an excuse to quit the movies and make a few bucks in the process. Guess we now know what quality of movies are coming out - more of the same. The reason I still come to this site is because I like talking with the folks here, even though there is nothing they can say or do to help me with the situation I find myself in.

Well it's like TD said...this ain't the first time we have heard of his getting late to the set or not being around-this is a business & even with a busy schedule himself,he has to show respect for the business & the other people that are trying to do their job.
Know the saying..if you can't do something right-don't do it at all...well quit trying to take on too much if you can't finish what you started :)

I think Seagal has the best managers on the world. After so bad critics for so much films, they managed to get him 4,75 m dollars as a salary for a 15m budgeted film. Those guys are some kind of wizards.

Isn't it possible that the people at the production company looked at the completed footage, and decided not to invest more money? Seagal's wage has been payed, sunk cost, but it is not worth to invest more money. So they tried to do this law prcedure, maybe they can get some of the money back.
