I have to be fair. Seagal looks great and did he really lost some weight or is it just the black clothes...

Seagal does look like he's lost some weight which is good. Also good is his promotion of a healthier lifestyle. Not so positive is his association with the president of a country with an extremely poor human rights record.

The article says, with discretion, that Putin invited Seagal to bolster his own tough-guy image, and goes on to talk about how he (Putin) is considering reestablishing a school-based youth fitness program similar to one coined by Stalin, albeit with modern adjustments.

I can't help but think that Seagal is doing some image-bolstering, himself. His recent gravitation towards these colorful, macho-type characters (i.e. Arpaio, Silva, Machida) is starting to become conspicuous. Can't say I agree entirely with his choice of buddies.

I have to be fair here and agree with you. He really looks like he has lost some weight. First off I noticed it on his face and stomach. Hope he keeps it up.

still not exactly Nico Toscani thoguh is he?

He was way to skinny as Nico, but in Out For Justice and Exit Wounds he was in a great shape. He would not look cool now if he looked like he did in Above The Law, it dosent matter that he has some meat on his bones, as long as he is not a fatty like he has been the last many years. He should trim down and keep it at a certain weight so it suits him and at the same time so he looks like a cool tough action guy in his movies.

What certain people dont seem to understand is (now this is going to sound a little bit rough) that Seagal is a product in a buisness world, and he is trying to sell himself to his fans. And as long as he dosn't do it the right way, stuff like this happens.
When you're an actor with a fanbase people expect certain things of you, and if you are not willing to live up to those expectations you might as well retire from acting. It sounds rough but thats the cruel world of an acting career.

Well spoken, completely agree with you're points.

I dont think so. He just buys bigger clothes to look thinner. Its as clear as daylight that he havent lost weight at all, look at his face he still has those fat cheeks and it looks ugly on him.

Agree with you too Boyd, Seagal is still far from looking his best or looking like a believable action star.

Why do we insist on dwelling on the past when its just that the past people change ... now its time to look toward the future when it comes to what Steven is doing ..look at all these other aging actors coming back into movies which i think is great example : the expandables (movies) and i will always stick to my guns and say every actor is unique in there own way .... i hope too see more of the aging actors and actresses come back ...as iam not really into the young crowd...

All this talk about Seagal's weight and whether or not he looks like "a believable action star"...
All I'll say is that he looks like he could beat the heck out of one of my least favorite world leaders, were they not such apparent chums. Seagal looks impressive and imposing, juxtaposed to little Putin like that.

the reason his weight is an issue is because he's just too heavy and slow. He barely moves around in his fight scenes because he's too heavy. Look at oen his his latest fights, where he waves his arms around and we guy just falls over, and all we see is super-close-ups. And look at one of his actual fight scenes from earlier movies where he moved around and we could see his whole body. There's a big difference.

The Expendables films are a good example of ageing action stars making a comeback, it's just a shame that Seagal isn't part of that.

Putin is one of my least favourite world leaders too. It's just unfortunate that Seagal is associating himself with another controversial leader and opening himself up to potentially negative headlines.

You're exactly right. Most of Seagal's fightscenes now seems to consist of either a frantic series of poorly lit close up shots where you can't see the action or Seagal just playing pattycake with his opponent.
