The Expendables 3

“Unless we have a better script. Just like lately they want to make ‘Rush Hour 4.’ I said ‘No, show me the script first. I don’t need another ‘Rush Hour 4.’ You need ‘Rush Hour 4.’ Show me the script.’ I don’t want to do a rubbish script just because they want to make the movie.”

Yep..that's because J. Chan believes in trying to give people their moneys worth, not just to try an exploit his name....look at Expendables 3...they put Jet Li's name on it, picture on some posters and he gets what ....1 line...and doesn't even get 1 cameo scene doing any kind of martial arts?
That's the thing with the Seagal DTV lineage.....I don't expect anything great...the most I can expect is 'tolerable'...which is fine....that's the path Seagal has chosen and Bing Dahn just uses the Seagal name to exlpoit the
videos...mostly aimed at non US market anyway where they don't expect much to begin with. Some are just happy to see Seagal on video period...I mean who the heck would buy DVD after DVD of a rejected TV show, repackaged as movies? and then in after taking years to accululate the entire series(sometimes even out of order)...there is no friggin' ending!
I have to admire Bing Dahn's talent for exploitation tho'...
I think Seagal is the 1st one who actually made a career out of making STV before it was as popular as it is these days.
Jackie Chan wants his name associated with quality/Steven Seagal does not....simple as that.

Many will likely credit the movies failure to the millions who watched the movie via an illegal download which leaked two weeks before the movie's theatrical release.
I just want to make something clear.....'The Expendables 3' video for download is not the usual 'sneak in a camera' type bootleg.....it was copy taken out of their own production company by one of their own employees,
so before the production company starts blaming the internet people for a loss of profit...they need to look at their own security and place the blame where it belongs.
They made a lousy film and need to beef up security.
that's what caused 'The Expendables 3' to flop this weekend.
A couple of years ago...the opening night of the film 'The Dark Knight' started with a mass shooting at a theater, within a week the cam-recorded
versions appeared on the internet; so we have to big negatives against it; but nonetheless....it still went on to be one of the biggest blockbusters ever....people wanted to 'experience' 'The Dark Knight' on the big screen....and having some of the scenes filmed in IMAX made it even more of a 'want to see in a theater' desirable.
A good film is a good film/a lousy one is a lousy one.

The difference between Chan and Seagal is that Jackie can always return home to hong kong and make movies there so he has more choices than Seagal.
I dont believe that Seagal sets out to make crap films its just he is limited to who can finance his movies.
When ever Seagal is interviewed he always says he has films in the piepline(recently he mentioned tip of the spear, the swordsman, prince of pistols) and yet those films dont happen so he has to make whatever Voltage etc give him.I think the nearest person to compare Seagal to is Van Damme has both have had similar careers.

I read many many years ago that Seagal was the biggest star in the STV world. His films must make some nice change or they wouldn't continue to keep cranking them out year after year, along with the horrible True Justice series... I tend to disagree with my Jamaican friend, I don't believe that Seagal truly cares about film making anymore, I sadly think he is in it solely for the pay check... I think that if he truly cared about film making that he would be more involved in the post production, (i.e. voice overs, stunt doubles, standin's, etc.). I understand that he is busy with everything else; music, philanthropy, traveling, etc, but if he cared about making good movies, he would make sure that the product was done well before moving onto something else. I have watched some pretty awesome STV movies over the past few years, and even some of Seagal's recent movies have some great fight scenes/performances by other actors, none of which have voice over issues, stand in's, or stunt doubles.

Then he should stop beeing the excecutive producer in all of his movies. This makes him "involved" and responsible for the end product. If he doesn't want to be involved he shouldn't commit his name to it in that way.

He probably is indeed only kaking movies to pay the bills. But to be honest at this point in his life with his attitude and thoughts about what a action movie should be, he can retire from filmmaking.

Fact is actionmovies have evolved, they changed to movies like the Bourne saga, expendables, Crank etc. The movie goers expect fast pacing, elaborate sfx, extensively choreagraphed fight scenes and good looking, in shape action hero's.

A return to US-franchise could reboot his career somewhat, but only if he puts in the effort, drive and passion from back in the day. And he needs himself to look credible again as an action guy, the shape as in EW was perfect, he even could be a bit heavier, but still would look in shape enough.

Peace

It did.....you must be psychic DiDa...your post is 2 years old (DiDa, Aug 27, 2012)

I noticed that too! Ha ha....but that confirms how predictable Stallone is. They could do an EX4 BUT they need a fresh story and a really box office actor (like Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel). They should return to an R rating and they should kill some people of the team to make the story grab you.

....................'' I don't believe that Seagal truly cares about film making anymore, I sadly think he is in it solely for the pay check..."
Well.....there is a video interview(can't remember which one off hand maybe during the 'Music From The Crystal Cave' promos) where the interviewer asks Seagal about ' you seem to be into the STV area nowadays...can you tell a bit about that? Seagal responds...'it pays the bills'.....which I thought OK....nice honest answer. So(to me) he basically saying ...'don't expect much they were never intended to be great; and you'll be fine...they are not made for mainstream viewing"
I think Seagal may be being mislead by Dahn that his STV are all basically the same; which is not true......it is possible to make a good STV as well as a bad one....
there are a few low budget STV(mostly non US) that have blown me away.

The Expendables 3 came in second at this weekends box office here in Holland, so it's no flop here but doing very well.

This was also the case with nr 2. Did not so well in the US, but did great in Europe.

Peace.

Then he should stop being the executive producer in all of his movies.....
being an 'ex' gives you a better cut of the profits, antway it's usually Binh Danh that has his name in there as a co-producer or executive producer..
.....he can retire from film making.
lol...he did ...years ago......he makes videos for income...it wouldn't surprise me if
in the future his videos become 'streaming only' ....would eliminate cost of the making of DVD and packaging, etc...could make them exclusive 'streaming' from stevenseagal.com.....DVD quality can be easily streamed these days...Amazon, Netflix, etc....all do it now.
none of his videos are for the big screen....
A return to US-franchise could reboot his career somewhat, but only if he puts in the effort, drive and passion from back in the day.
very true....but it obvious he has had no desire whatsoever to do so for many years now, I don't see anything to indicate any change in the near future either...

teach them what?
that a lousy movie is a lousy movie whether at a theater or downloaded?

anyway this is the 1st time in the history of the internet that a DVD version of a movie has been 'leaked'....only other one that came close was one of 'working copies' of the X-men got leaked.
Film companies do release what they call a DVD screener for various reasons, but they have a notice running thru them and many times they are not post process finished.
The Expendables 3 leak is a historic moment in itself....
will it hurt the Christmas DVD sales?.....probably not....those that like 'The Expendables' series will buy it, 'specially if they own the previous 2.
from what I read the fans are divided as to whether 1 or 2 was better....and 3 was not even close.

Thats YOUR opinion, there are many people who like the movie, including me!!

As Seagal was close to be in EX3, what role would have been for him. What do you guys think? Would it be Banderas' role?

No, probably the role of Kelsey Grammer or the one of Harrison Ford. Cann't see Seagal fitting any other character that was in the movie or perhaps Snipes role.

And perhaps the role Stalone had for Seagal never made it into the picture because Seagal didn't accept.

The Expendables 3 - A Man's Job - Extended Director's Cut
www.splendid-film.de/ceemes//article/show/178111
