Ok..just got the DVD in the mail today......Uh..no haven't watched it yet...it's like 0 outside and the disk is too cold to pop in at the moment.....and I don't write reviews anyway.....LOL
We've all seen the front cover...so here's the back cover and the DVD itself...being as you can see it's a one-sided disk there is only the widescreen version

I went into Blockbuster today, and I noticed they had shelf space already set aside for The Foreigner release tomorrow....

LOL......if you think that picture is questionable ...wait till you see the one on the menu....
Bockbuster should have it tommorrow to rent on tape and disk....Oh......I just ran a test..No Macrovision....so that means you can rent the disk and copy it to VHS tape if you wish....
also usually if there is no Macro put on..
One added note....I'm in Reg 1 and the disk cover staes Reg 1 itself....however I ran it thru my PC DVD player...and set it to Reg 3(SouthEast Asia) expecting to see the "DVD can not playback for this region"...but it played no problem......further on checking the region it may have picked up..the regions were blank...I only have 6 region settings and reg 7 is supposed to be for region free disk....
so ...not only is there no macrovision......but it appears that the disk itself is not encoded for any specific region either....
which means...by theory...... that this DVD can be played anywhere on any DVD player and can also be copied....I'm not sure about the NTSC-PAL-SEACAM though...
John

Disk comes with trailers for:

The Foreigner (same as the downloaded)
Half Past Dead (same as the download)
I Spy
The One
XXX

no extras...unless Columbia has some of those easter eggs(which I doubt)

Yeah..I just read it......nice.....very balanced......
How about those crazy sporadic fast forward shots mixed in with the slow motion?...
The film did focus on Seagal as the main character through out..so I know the ladies will enjoy that...and personally I liked it more than HPD & EW....don't know why really....even thought it was shot entirely in Poland....I thought it was good to see a bunch of outdoor European locales...and the way we are taken from Poland to France to Germany to Norway,etc..pretty much had me trying to keep track of where we were supposed to be at the time...who hired who...and who is on who's side..
.and it had enough balance between armed combat, gun fighting
twists & turns..except for some of the editing..as the combo fast forward & slow motion...that I found it entertaining

"I just love a barbecue"...

Well...that was from my point of view...I got tired of the rap theme after watching Romeo Must Die...and I had my fill of wire work from The Matrix....
The Foreigner has a combo musical score that starts with something that reminds me of Under Seige 2...and it has a bit of what it seems a synth soundtrack to highten the fight scenes...
and the European locales were a nice change from the urban city setting...the effects were not over done..and it does merit the R rating...so to me ...it's more in line with the "Seagal style movie"...
way more than I thought EW or HPD was.....except for some crazing editing as I mentioned..I liked it alot...I think it's definately worth renting by far...I mean I enjoyed EW & HPD but The Foriegner is more of my kind of Seagal film....we all have our different tastes and favored flavors....this is just more like the kind of film I would like to see Seagal in........being I'm not familiar with any of the supporting actors I can't really say from their performances..I was mainly looking at it from a Seagal perspective film...
I don't think anyone is going to regret renting and watching it...looking at it from Seagal's complete film work....it's not his best...and not his worst....
and remember..it's just my view....
If you want to see Seagal in a big budget effects and urban scenario with a rap theme than EW is what you would want to see.
If you want to see how Seagal would handle a low budget PG-13 prison film with more of the rap theme then HPD is your choice
If you want to see a low budget with alot of Seagal in European locales..and Seagal is in %85 of the movie due to there not being any major co-stars where Seagal gets put in the background while we are to focus on the other actors scenario; some thing you have to think about for a minute or two(actually I have to watch it again because I know with all the jumping around..I missed some things)..then The Foreigner is a good choice....I would never compare these more recent films with earlier work as ATL , MFD or US...it's a different era now in films and in peoples lives so to me it's not really fair to judge something now to something ten or more years ago.
Though The Foreigner lacks the over done car chases with special effects..or jumping out of helicopters.....it still kept my attention throughout..

Thanks John
Now I am more excited to wait for my copy of the film.
Sure I will receive RG 1 copy but I have a multi-player and TV set.
Which means I can not tell weather it can be playbacked on a pal system or not.

But I'll tell you Seagal should be proud of having fans like you

No.....I don't think you'll have any problem at all.....if your player is a multi-format...my player is not multi-format.....meaning I can only play the disks to a NTSC TV......the player converts the PAL to NTSC...now a multi-format is far beyaond what I have.....so it should be able to place any disk on any 'format' as well.....should convert NTSC top PAL easily(I'm assuming you have PAL..very few have SEACAM)..
Oh I wanted to ask the HPD disk viewed.....was that a VCD made from a web download or one of the Asian bootleg DVDs?
