anyone here seen the hunted with tommy lee jones as it is out for rent soon in the uk and i was wondering if anyone had seen it wihen it hit theates

Saw it on region 1 DVD. It was pretty good. At 94 minutes I can't help but feel there was more to the film and it's been cut out. The film is pretty bloody and there seems to be a whole subplot about man not respecting nature/animals that's been trimmed but overall I thought it was a pretty good film.

Hi rastafari.

I saw "The Hunted" way back in May on a bootlegged DVD disc and thought it was awesome. It is about a soldier who served in Kosovo played by Benicio Del Toro who starts cracking up after the horrors he witnessed in the war and goes AWOL in the forests of Oregan and starts picking off deer hunters via deadly knife attacks. His former commander who taught him the techniques of combat Lt Bonham (Tommy Lee Jones) is then assignned to bring him in dead or alive.

The film bares certain similarities to the likes of "First Blood" where the hunter and hunted have nearly a father/son relationship. They also prove to be near mirror images of each other personality wise and it is a question of who is the more deadly. There is a lot of knife combat in the film and most of it is very gruesome particularly the final confrontation on top a waterfall, which has to be the most violent knife fight I have ever witnessed in any movie. Tommy Lee Jones is very good and very believable in the grizzled role of the tracker and he displays some martials arts moves in the tussels he has with Del Toro.

Very good and one of the best films Ive seen this year. The only thing that surprised me was that it was rated 15 over here. So whether it was cut, I don't know.

Peace.

MMCK - I agree with you on The Hunted - a really excellent movie, with some gruesome visuals, excellent fight sequences and one of the most violent 15's I've seen.

GlimmerMan, I see we share the same tastes in excessivly violent action epics. LOL

Like you, I would have to say it is on of the most violent films ever passed in Britain with a 15 certificate, I mean, the knife fight at the end between Jones and Del Toro was f**king barbaric! I really enjoyed the film and thought it did'nt deserve the mediocre reviews it got from the film press. I'm just glad I saw it before any reviews were printed as I would have missed one of the best mature action films this year. The critics go on about how director William Friedkin has lost his touch and that he is a hack and all the rest of it, but I'll tell you, I would be very happy if he was going to direct one of Seagal's upcoming movies.

Peace.

Same here mate. Remember when I said I'd try and locate all my episodes of Vids for you? Just to let you know that I haven't gotten round to it yet! I must have a collection of about 100 video cassette tapes which I've been taping sh*t on since I was about 14 and I haven't had a chance to check them yet, let alone link up two VCRs!

Do you ever watch OutThere? It is similar to Vids in that it is on late at night and it only reviews cult videos and DVD's, but a fit women dressed in a red bikini reviews them! She isn't quite as good as Stef or Nige with the sarcasm though!

Send me your e-mail address again if you don't mind mate - be good to talk off the board.

Got it on R1 DVD. Found it enjoyable, not a truely great action movie. Probably about 6-7/10.

I just saw it on rental & it had action but not much of a story line.

I might add that the music in the movie was done by the late Johnny Cash

So you got to see the blood go flying from his body at the end there? and see the knife plunged into his heart.

I thought it was a really good movie as well, and saw more of a plot than others.
I liked the scene in the office building where TLJ was having nature withdrawl.
And the Wolf! Come on that was so cool.

and yea, Johnny's tune fit all to creepily in.
And I'm feeling now that the great man is passed on, I'll do like all the other schmucks and actually listen to it.
*sigh*

Really loved this film can't believe it's been 10 years. I think it rates as one of Friedkin's best. I certainly prefer it to his previous film Rules of Engagement which also starred Tommy Lee Jones alongside Samuel L. Jackson, although that is a good film too. His audio commentary on The Hunted DVD is well worth a listen very insightful and informative.
